LGBTQ+ Pride Month started as a way to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. It also celebrates LGBTQ+ activism through the years, and many pride events are held during this period to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ people have on the world.
To start off the occasion on the right foot, Bored Panda has already posted a batch of funny Pride Month memes, but Twitter has been going at it so hard, we decided to compile a new one, dedicated entirely to tweets. Don't worry, you don't have to be well-versed in LGBTQ+ culture to get them. All you need is empathy. Now continue scrolling and treat your sense of humor.

It is part of the moth? or do u mean what flag they are?
Load More Replies...Last year, most in-person Pride events were canceled because of the pandemic. But parades and other celebrations are returning this month to New York, Paris, and many other cities across the world. Pride events are usually geared toward people who feel like their sexual identity falls outside the mainstream — but of course, straight people can join in, too.
Arguably the biggest symbol of the LGBTQ+ community is the rainbow flag. Its story begins in 1978 when artist and designer Gilbert Baker was commissioned by San Francisco city supervisor Harvey Milk (one of the first openly gay elected officials in the US) to make a flag for the city's upcoming Pride celebrations.
Baker, a prominent gay rights activist himself, gave a nod to the stripes of the American flag but drew inspiration from nature too. The flag originally comprised eight stripes; Baker assigned specific meaning to each of the colors: hot pink — sex, red — life, orange — healing, yellow — sunlight, green — nature, turquoise magic/art, indigo — serenity, and violet — spirit.
I always challenge those who say being gay is a choice to choose to be gay for a day and see how they go.
Yeah, I've always said that I'd still probably choose to be gay.
Yes, and many people in the lgbtq community use it to describe themselves, including myself. However, most people within the community don’t feel comfortable with people outside the community using it as it usually comes off as a slur.
Load More Replies...i love being a human being and do not care about anybodys sexuality as long as he/she/them is not an asshole and even then i would not judge them by their chosen gender or the lack of but the way they treat me.
Yeah, so true!! I never got bigotry, I only judge people if they're total fucktards
Load More Replies...The full acronym is LGBTQQIAAP now, I believe. One Q is questioning one is queer
Load More Replies...Proud momma of a fabulous gay son here and he laughed when I asked him if someone just leaned on a keyboard to get the acronym. Happy Pride!
Eventually (hopefully) the acronym will be AtoZ, because, with enough different people being supported to be themselves, there will be many more "labels" to be claimed.
At this point, "she" IS a gay man. That's a difference people need to understand.
Load More Replies...It's time people understand that "bisexual" is not the same as "gay but does not admit it" Also, let them come out if they want to, don't force it, it's traumatic.
Omg same. People are like bi isn't a thing. My attraction to the same gender doesn't stop existing because I'm with the opposite sex
Load More Replies...This sounds about right, I'd be annoyed too if someone wanted to figure out which way I'd go.
According to Baker's website, the demand for the rainbow flag greatly increased after the assassination of Milk on November 27, 1978. To meet demand, the Paramount Flag Company began selling a version of the flag using stock rainbow fabric with seven stripes: red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, and violet.
As Baker ramped up production of his version of the flag, he dropped the hot pink stripe because of the unavailability of hot-pink fabric as well.
Fun fact: San Francisco-based Paramount Flag Co. began selling a surplus stock of Rainbow Girls flags from its retail store on the southwest corner of Polk and Post, at which Gilbert Baker was an employee.
😅 I have feelings about this, I often get mistaken for a girl (to which it both amuses and annoys me).
This is the second biggest problem with Pride month. The first being that it's necessary at all - the centuries of being treated as lesser, broken, or evil being "undone" by a month in which you can be open and proud of who you are, instead of ALWAYS having been open and proud of who you are.
I think you misunderstand what pride month is about. Pride isn’t the one time a year lgbtq+ folk can be proud of who they are and it isn’t about undoing anything. It’s not like July first hits and the community collectively says “whelp, time to be ashamed and closeted again”. Pride month is about celebrating lgbtq people and their experiences as well as finding strength and comfort in the community.
Load More Replies...uhm, yeah... this is how companies work. they want to make money they have to market to people. what do you want? everyone gets free stuff all the time?
We aren't all fabulous, and it isn't as if there aren't straight men who are fabulous!
That's right! I'm a short, fat, 50-year-old straight man, and I think I am fabulous, which is good enough for me!
Load More Replies...😁 I love this artist, they have some fantastic stuff on YouTube!
OMG YES!! like, would I wear a frickin pride flag if not everyone knows i'm in that spectrum? like...
It's not the most virtue-signaling, it's whatever they think is the most mainstream opinion at the moment.
Load More Replies...In 1979 the flag was modified one more time. When hung vertically from the lamp posts of San Francisco’s Market Street, the center stripe was obscured by the post itself. It turned out that changing the flag design to one with an even number of stripes was the easiest way to rectify this, so the turquoise stripe was dropped, and the six-stripe version of the flag was born — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.
But it wasn't until 1994 that the rainbow flag was truly established as the symbol for LGBTQ+ pride. That year Baker made a mile-long version for the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
Decades later, the rainbow flag is an international symbol for LGBTQ+ pride and can be seen waving in the air during the promising times and the difficult ones.
Wow. That's a way to come out, alright. I went with "stuff my face with baked goods after announcement to avoid questions"
I went with-wait I haven't come out yet forgot my parents were homophobes :D
Load More Replies...Ehhh...not sure if any Dad wants to know about how much d**k their kids are getting - straight/gay/any sexual preference
Yeah, some things should stay private. Parents don't need details
Load More Replies...I'd say Andrew 's dad is pretty chilled.... I' m not sure a father want's to hear the intimate details of their children's sex life, boy or girl, straight or gay, I think they just want to share time together. I think it's Andrew that needs to show more interest in the rela
The small business one is soooo much more beautiful...
I would probably wear the one on the left more, ngl. I prefer brighter/bolder colors than neutrals/pastels
I like the small business more! If I walked in to a business, and they were not doing business with anyone that was gay, and I saw it, I'd announce in a loud voice, " Well! You are such vile people! Not dealing with gay people! You have lost my business, and I am a very rich, and now rich and pissed off, and you will now not be getting my extremely large order for ---, and I will tell all my friends to never come in here! " but I am not rich, not gay, but a huge supporter of equality, and inclusiveness. Nothing brings up my feelings of fighting for what's right, more than injustice against another person, group, or anything!
I love the 2nd one , everyone should hold a hand it shows you care .
I want to make a "why is there a picture of a white box"-joke, but at the same time I don't want to appear ignorant or hateful, so I'll simply write down my thought process
I'm a clueless old straight man. What is a "why is there a white box" joke?
Load More Replies...Look, I know I'm going to be down voted but: there's nothing wrong with being straight. The amount of peer pressure I have in high school to be bi or gay is insane. My classmates literally don't believe me when i say I'm straight. They say "one day you'll realize your gay." I respect and support your sexuality, please be fine with mine. Some people are born gay some straight. It's not homophobic to be straight.
Dude literally. I'm so sorry that happened too you. Why can't people realize that somebody's sexuality is none of their business.
Load More Replies...Right? Best looking cast of all time right there. Brendan Fraser? Gorgeous. Rachel Weisz? Beautiful. Arnold Vosloo? Drool. Oded Fehr? OMG. Patricia Velasquez? Stunning.
Load More Replies...I LOVE the princess bride!! :D And now prepare yourself for an exceedingly cheesy pun... people with weak hearts be warned... "princess bride??? More like princess PRIDE!!!!"
Load More Replies...HAHAHA! OMG, this is absolutely true! In the good ol' 90's and 00's, I knew people could be gay or straight. But I was so confused when I had a crush on a girl classmate AND on Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow at the same time!! Without knowing it was a thing, I had to logic out bisexuality on my own. Thank you, Pirates of the Caribbean, for helping me understand my sexuality before there was as much understanding and information as there is today. We've still got a ways to go, but we've really come so far!!
*cough cough* Nick Nelson from the Netflix adaptation of Heartstopper, this means you.
No gay person would ever wear this. There isn’t even any glitter on it...
I might, actually. I find it kinda stylish. Like I was gonna buy it but I didnt
Load More Replies...No LGBTQ+ person would wear this. The lack of glitter, the horrid suit design, etc. LGBTQ+, follow me! We'll make our own suit.
A lesbian comedian said that just because she's lesbian straight women think her standards are low when they offer themselves up to her. This hideous jacket is the equivalent of this. Short sleeves SMGDH...
What's wrong with short sleeves? I wouldn't be caught dead in long sleeves unless it's cold outside. Inside I NEVER wear long sleeves.
Load More Replies...I'm wondering now about the black/brown part of the spectrum that I'd never noticed before in the rainbow.
It's called the progress pride flag, and it was but there for people of color who are not as represented in the LGBTQ+ comunity, and the pink blue and white part was added for trans people.
Load More Replies...i saw that in a target last year. it might be even worse in person i think XD
If it were me, I would be way too tempted to have my picture taken under the "Uptown & Queens" sign with the arrow, and it would be all over every social media ever, proudly
Lady Bunny!!!! Bun Bun is old school. Coco Peru is probably even older :D
Ah, Lady Bunny. I'll never forget seeing her preform, it was my second ever drag show and I was like 13. She made me gay
Sort of? But we chose Laura Dern as the patron deity of all that is queer
Load More Replies...Thank You! Making something a "month" doesn't show its acceptable, it's like media's way of saying "hey, look we care, buy stuff" while singling people out like they are strange. What about next month?
Allies don't go to prison. Anti LGBTQ+ straights do, however, so I'm sure you're safe :)
Load More Replies...The flyers are my brother's fave team. they might be mine now as well.
This is sooooo true but corporations don't get it because most gay people have more class, taste and PRIDE than to wear their gay on their backs.
Yeah;just let me wear my flag like the dramatic shakespearan gremlin I am,ok?
Load More Replies...Dammit. I only have 2 straight friend, and an army of lesbos. It's a great life tho.
All my friends are Lgbtq+ but so am I... Does that mean I get to keep my money? 🤔
Fascinating how depending on who makes jokes, they're funny or they become a prosecutable offense. A total lack of neutrality is everywhere.
someone at school was telling people "its my month you should give me money" XD
I swear to god, Lil Nas X is the hero we’ve needed for a long time!
I’m gonna Go tell my three straight friends to give me and my bi friend all their money
They were crammed into a box for shipping. The one behind it appears to have the same sort of wrinkle pattern.
Load More Replies...Um he he he ... this is like my high school theme song . I was a huge ho . Kidding !!
They're the little guys in Night At The Museum. I viewed them as friends (I'm acearo, so romance & sex kinda go over my head), but I think Ms. Wiseman thinks that that they are a couple.
Load More Replies...No they are not, they are Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan - who are definitely not related!!
Load More Replies...The mullet makes me think Conservatives if not those for the Confederate Flag are suddenly for gay rights. I doubt it.
So there’s the meme but then there’s the fact that someone, if even for only a month or two, had this haircut
Yeah, for some reason a lot of people on this article in specific have trouble recognizing satire or an obvious joke. I reallllyyyy hope everyone's just having a slow morning and people aren't deliberately trying to find something to get mad over here bc it's all gay tweets
Load More Replies...Referring to the feature on Instagram where you can post certain things and only a selected group of close friends can see it!

The graphics style looks like Fallout. Not sure which one though.
Load More Replies...That's my friend with tv. If everybody's not gay, then she ain't interested.
She is rocking that 90s hair! Ah the 90s were my decade, growing up but still a kid. If only we hadn't all scared ourselves shitless over y2k! Or was that just me? (I literally prepared secretly for the fall of mankind, at 12, by recording my fave songs and buying batteries in case it was my last chance 🤦♀️)
My family tiptoed around my very Catholic grandma for years about her baby brother, whom we all knew was homosexual. Then he died, and we're al sitting there awkwardly trying to avoid it, and my grandma basically rolled her eyes and said, "I know he was gay, so what?" and that was when we all realized we were way more clued out than my grandma! .... Moral: Don't assume.
My most conservative and Christian relative was basically best friends with her gay nephew for as long as I knew her and till she died. People are individual in spite of proud-worn labels and I really love that about us
Load More Replies...I identify as confused. I don’t know who I like or if I like no one at all. Well, I’m confused when it comes to real people anyway. *walks off to simp over Lady Dimitrescu and Thranduil*
I’m mostly straight but that Lady Dimitrescu..gotta love a tall lady with style!
Load More Replies...[Question answered and removed] Happy pride month everyone! ❤
The corporations are not wrong of supporting it this month, they are wrong not supporting it the rest of the time. But you are never wrong supporting/honoring your friend. Even if there would be LGBTQ+ members who would disagree.

Sad but true, so don't feel like y'all the Lone Ranger in that respect. Anyway, just wanna say Happy Pride month from and old straight dude. If that's ok and all. If it ain't cool for an old straight dude to say it, ignore it I guess. But really, y'all have fun and I hope it's a good one for y'all.
I know I’m bi because I see both men and women as hot and/or cute, but idk about if I’m ace that really confuses me. I fit the a sexual description because I’m not interested in sex or having it at all, except I still get those feelings and I read romance novels… an I ace or not🤔
You could be asexual, just not aromantic. You don't feel sexually attracted to anyone, but you do feel romantic attraction.
