I saw a documentary on this! It was great. The recidivism rate plummeted for those guys and their levels of depression with it. Cats are the best.

American prisons really do need to focus more on rehabilitation instead of punishment. Of course, if the criminal is a deranged serial killer/rapist/child harmer then look them up and throw away the key. Some people can't be fixed.
