What is a photogenic cat? One that has a lush coat? Majestic whiskers? Whatever your answer is, you probably weren't thinking of Sphynxes when you read my question. But don't feel bad for them. Owners of these proud felines probably wouldn't fight you on this one.
In fact, sometimes they're even mocking their pets for not being able to take a good photo, posting their unflattering snaps online for everyone to see. Some of those kitties remind us of Dobbie from Harry Potter, some look like bats, but one thing's certain: there are a lot of Sphynxes that won't be walking down the catwalk. Regardless of what you think about the way Sphynxes look, chances are you couldn't resist their personality. To say they are lively would be an understatement. These felines are true acrobats, willing to perform on everything from doorways to bookshelves.
Sphynxes are very devoted and loyal. They are known for following their humans around the house, wagging their tails almost like dogs, kneading with their padded toes, and purring with delight at the joy of simply being near their beloved owners.

However, you could say they are a bit needy. Sphynxes want their humans to appreciate their efforts and demand their owner's unconditional attention.
These kitties can also be mischievous. After all, despite their unorthodox appearance, they are still entirely cats, with all the mystery and charm that has fascinated humankind for thousands of years. While Sphynxes may not be for everyone, their unique looks and irresistible temperament have won over hearts all over the world.

Main reason to neuter indoor cats is not to prevent kittens, but (for male cats) to prevent territorial urine spraying indoors and (for females) because when they go into heat ALL THEY WANT is to be bred, and they wander around wailing and and making advances to other mammals in the house and trying to get outside to look for an obliging tomcat.

Sphynx is a specific breed, this one doesn't look like one (hence the "sweet" face, instead of the long pointy villain-y sphynx face)... probably a "regular" cat that lost its fur for some reason.

Sphynx cats are particularly susceptible to sunburns and skin cancer, and therefore exposure to direct sunlight must be limited. So they should not be allowed to lay around in the sun. A hairless cat, like a human, is also at risk for sunburn even in the shade or on overcast days.

They are wonderful for people with severe allergies who want a pet. Because of no fur, you do have to keep an eye on their skin, keeping it oiled. Any purebred can be overbred, so be research the breeders. Not sure of any other health issues, but sun exposure can also be a problem

Another example of a cruel breeding by f****d-up people for f****d-up people. A cat without hair isn't only suffering from a difficult to maintain body-temperature but actually is sense-restricted since their hair and whiskers are sense-organs (touch).

The special look is one thing, but another is the quality of life for this animals. I am not an expert, but a quick Google search tells me they have to stay inside due to the lack of warmth or they can get a sunburn really quick. In Germany apparently there are regions where breeding this cat is not allowed. I mean, is it really worth it to have such a "toy" for the sake of the sensation? Sure, maybe there are owners who put in a lot of time and care for those animals, but still, it feels very selfish to breed animals and know they will never have the type of life they could have.

There is absolutely NOTHING that makes these cats elegant. They look like a parody of themselves, and that alone wouldn't make me angry, but it's cruelty to breed them WITHOUT WHISKERS! Skin is an organ. It's necessary for survival. Whiskers are important for cats to explore their surroundings, because they can't see well close up. About 30 cm from them, things get sharp - closer, and it's all a blurr. It's why they need whiskers and hair. Apart from the obvious, having hair to regulate the body-temperature. Also, Sphinx need to be washed regularly or their skin will suffer. And on top of that, so many pictures here show blatantly overweight cats. No, thhey're not "cute little chonks" - they are bloated. If you, for some inexplicable reason, own a sphinx, at LEAST keep them lean and agile. There's no excuse with a naked cat - you can very clearly see that it's not "the fur" that makes them look big.

Any forced breeding of any animal is cruel except maybe to save species. The health problems inbred cats have are just awful

My cat is a sphynx, and it's just disappointing to see how many ignorants are here in the comment section! How can you call them a "perversion"? There's nothing cruel in this breed, because it's just a natural genetic mutation, not induced by humans. The fact that these cats are looking kinda weird, doesn't mean they're ill, or suffering. The quality of life of a sphynx cat is just the same of a hairy cat: they eat, sleep, play and get all the love they deserve. No health issues, no suffering. These cats can be without whiskers, it's not a cruel human choice to breed them without (as some idiot wrote in the comments). Having a sphynx means to have to wash your cat (not a problem at all), and to have a lot of warm spots in your house (again, not a problem). I really don't get what your problem is, but sphynx cats don't have any
