While the pandemic was a notorious era for DIY haircuts gone wrong, blunder years and your usual hairstylist going on vacation raise the chances of giving you a hilarious hairdo times ten, if not a hundred. But while we can suffer a haircut fail in silence until it grows back, we’d rather have a good laugh at it, because why be so serious?
And there’s a whole corner of Reddit known as the ‘Just [Fudge] My [Stuff] Up’ subreddit, whose original name we cannot utter as it's just as spicy as you suspect, dedicated to precisely such instances. From mullets, aka business in the front, party in the back, to bowl cuts, the community is dedicated to “jacked up haircuts from all walks of life.”

I cut them myself! (We have all made the mistake of cutting bangs when wet while forgetting that hair springs back when dry, and ending up with squirrel bangs. Most of us only make that mistake once. Most of us, that is.)
You may wonder what’s the difference between an avant-garde haircut and a tacky one. After all, they both should stand out and have some unusual touch to them. But according to Giuliano Dore, the cofounder of Get Groomed, whom Bored Panda contacted some time ago, it all comes down to the focus on details and the key idea behind the haircut.
“You would think that haircuts like the bowl cut are never gonna be trendy. Wrong. It’s happening and thanks to extremely talented hairstylists, we see a lot of hipsters rocking a very fashionable bowl. It’s all about pattern, symmetry, and (sometimes) controlled asymmetry. If I see patchy haircuts, holes or broken hairlines, I am gonna assume the worst," he told us.

Omg this is the exact haircut I got after growing my hair for a few years. Went in for a bob cut, ex went to another store and I took off my glasses and let the hair stylist shampoo and cut my hair. Blissfully blind without my glasses. A little while later my ex came back for me and I could hear him laughing. I asked what he was laughing for and he told me to put my glasses on. The above photo is how she had cut my hair. I started crying. Owner came out from the back and was asking what was wrong. My ex explained what I wanted and gestured to what I got. Owner apologised and said nothing he could do now but this cut was free and when my hair had grown out he would cut it personally. I went home and shaved my head. This was 2012...

There's a whole texture thing going on with locs. Hair with the right texture to loc can be twisted around itself with no damage and does not smell or get dirty. Hair with the wrong texture can only sorta kinda loc, and it has to be broken to do so. That sort of hair does NOT loc properly, it's basically matted, like we see here, and gets dirty and smells. And THEN there are whole stupid rules made in various places saying people can't have "dreadlocks" when what they mean is this sort of monstrosity. People with the wrong hair type ruining a perfectly legit hairstyle for people with a particular texture of hair.

I have curly hair and am Black, and when I see white people with dreadlocks in, I pity them when they have to take them out. It pulls at the straight hair and causes hair loss in some cases. I have seen it.

You know, kids go through phases, trying different looks and all, until they find their particular niche that they’ll stick with. They may stick with it for like as their own personal look, or change it up as they get older. All you can do is love them and let them find themselves. You have to know that, if you outright forbid something, they’ll only just double down on it. So be cool. Just make sure they’re not getting in trouble, or in situations they’re not old enough to be able to handle without your help (which they’ll most likely totally resent at first, but will understand the necessity of later). Just love them, and remember how it was when you were their age.

Had to sit down and look this up. This is something called "the bigen blackout" or just "blackout". Using strong hair dyes to "enhance hair" and "give crisp lines" to cover hair loss. The results are mostly like this - they look very fake and uncanny.

Another good way to make sure you won't end up in this list of haircut fails is to speak up with your stylist before AND during a haircut. It’s crazy how much miscommunication happens simply because we don’t utter our thoughts, doubts and fears. Also, if you feel like your stylist is doing something you’re not comfortable with, it’s better to address it as soon as possible.

Think of politely saying something like, "I don't think I want all those layers. Can you please soften them so they’re not so noticeable?" Also, try giving a more detailed explanation including how much length to take off and pointing to places where you want layers or fades. And… let them know what you don’t like! This can make a huge difference in saving your hair from a bad haircut in the first place.

However, sometimes it’s simply too late. You walk out of the salon and realize this is it, that’s how you're gonna look for months. Which is not exactly true. Right after a haircut, your hair may indeed look very unusual, because the cuticles have been exposed and they need time to settle. The final look may only appear after a couple of days, and up to three shampoos later that week, so patience is key.

Back in the day, women who styled their hair like this were highly flammable. We all smoked back then too, and getting too near a lighter, candle or gas flame could be deadly. Hi friend! Black woman here! I can explain. This look is accomplished using hair gel, a strong brush, barber neck tape, and a pull down hair dryer. It’s done this way to last until the next time she gets it done. Sometimes people who request this style live in humid climates or work jobs that cause their normal hairstyles to fail soon after leaving the beauty shop. Thank you for asking☺️

That’s when men started going to the same hairdressers that women went to, because a lot of barbers wouldn’t give them these cuts, plus they all needed to be blow dried—-something I also remember my brothers figuring out how to do. Back then, they didn’t really have blow dryers, but they did have curling irons—-that you needed to have several pairs of because they had to sit in a fire to heat up, and would most likely burn your hair off your head than curl it. A lot of hair “sculpting” was done with hair grease or wax. Since shampoos were pretty harsh back then, and conditioners a thing of the future (though people who could afford it used lanolin once it came out), people did wash their hair every day. Maybe weekly or monthly. So that c**p would stay there, congealing and getting dirtier and smellier, until they washed it out. Yuck.

Sadly enough, A typical recruit for most of America's military. The United States depends upon keeping certain areas and regions poor and desperate enough to force the poorest of the poor to sign up as a last desperate attempt at bettering themselves. This is another reason that there isn't National Medical Care for all, it forces people into the military. Appalachian poor whites and Blacks and Latinos from our cities and across the continent, because Blacks are intentionally excluded from everything except the military. This means that the poorest Americans become mercenaries for the 1% around the world. We take away the poverty we take away their military that's used only to kill and steal from Brown people. Please don't enlist, you'll get nothing out of it except PTSD, A bad back and sore feet.

Not a fan of this thread. Encouraging making fun of people. Some of these are just from a different era. Some are just alt/goth some are perpously outrageous but the hairdresser has skills...some are genuinely terrible but that's no reason to be mean everyones got at least 1 terrible do in their back catalogue.
