This would be better if they led up to a hidden trap door. They'd look like weird shelves or boring modern art, until you climbed up, pushed on the ceiling, and hey, it's a secret room.

One slip and the shelf falls off the wall, then you break body parts as you demolish the table and the shelf lands on top of you...or maybe that's just my luck.

I like them. Makes a bit more privacy upstairs, if your flatmates are old. And the cats will use this stairwall, too - and likely enjoy playing there. My cat loves obstacles when she is playmouse-hunting.
