Look, having good taste doesn't guarantee anything. I mean, it doesn’t mean people won’t appreciate your taste or that you won’t get complimented way more often than the rest of humanity, but half of the coin belongs to execution. If it is poor, this power duo of desirable traits is doomed.
But sometimes, it’s awful taste that spoils it all. Imagine having skill, patience, resources, all that it takes in the world, except lacking the taste and understanding of the whole picture in the first place. This selection is dedicated to precisely these idly hilarious instances.
Inspired by the corner of Reddit known as Awful Taste But Great Execution, it reminds us that not all product designs are great, good, or barely tolerable. Quite a good share of them don’t deserve to be put on the supermarket shelves, even if they have been produced elegantly. Psst! Check out our previous selections of painful-to-watch designs here and here.

This Rug Pattern Carved Into A Hardwood Floor
I question the "beautiful floor" part. The entire floor seems to be made up of very small pieces, and no effort has been made to stagger the seams between them. The carving does a beautiful job of distracting from this.
Load More Replies...kinda funny that there was an article about this piece months ago but now they're leaving out the context? in case anyone was wondering this is an art piece created by Selva Aparicio who states "This piece is about covering and exposing, trauma and bearing witness" so i feel like its a lil messed up to just act like its not an art piece? idk
thank you for that information! It is indeed important to understand the reasons and now I can truly appreciate it as art
Load More Replies...Could fill it with clear epoxy, neat flat floor again.
Load More Replies...That is actually quite beautiful and really incredible craftsmanship considering that it looks like the design was hand-carved.
Whoever carved that must have very steady hands, it looks awesome
And a good back, as this was done crouched the whole time.
Load More Replies...This was recycled, discarded oak flooring whose "only purpose in life" was to BE ART. For goodness sakes, get over the "ruined a good floor" tears. This floor did not freaking exist prior to the installation. *eyes rolled all the way to another dimension*
While rolling your eyes, Tina, please remember and consider that not everyone that viewed this post has the same information that you apparently do. That info was not provided, so one could very reasonably think that this WAS a regular, home wood floor. Calm down and put your eyes back in your head.
Load More Replies...This has a point only in a museum! It's not practical in a house it will get destroyed and difficult to clean
skills but really uncomfortable to walk/ sit on also a nightmare to clean.
Oooh with two boisterous and mischievous boys at home this would be a welcome add to my sober living room.
Keeping it clean on the other hand....... a nightmare probably Amazing craftmanship though, if that is the right word
Ummmm I honestly don't know what I feel about this. I hope you aren't renting.
i can feel the splinters just thinking about walking on this barefoot
That must have cost A FORTUNE, and would be ruined after the first scuff mark.
That’s not awful taste at all, that’s beautiful. It allows you to appreciate the lovely hardwood floor around the ‘rug’ too.
I wouldn’t have guessed it was carved cuz it’s almost perfect..........
That took a lot of time & talent, but you sure can't change your mind!
That took an awful amount of work & talent. But, you sure can't change your mind!
Actually this is an improvement, this parquet floor pattern is too much irregular, my guess is the tiles are from a pile of discontinued models.
Actually this is an improvement, the parquet floor pattern is too irregular
Took a lot of skill and time to do this. Probably not as long as handknottjng an oriental rug, but still
Hopefully they filled it with clear resin. As to those saying they "ruined an expensive hardwood floor." That's recycled wood, likely a mix of old and new growth, probably Douglas fir or Southern Pine. You can tell by the color, the short board length, and the grain pattern. Both would be comparatively easy to carve compared to oak or tropical hardwood.
Well, if the artist or museum want to sell it, it might be expensive to ACQUIRE. Won't be expensive to "get rid of".
Load More Replies...This is absolutely stunning! That being said, if I were house-shopping and came across this, I would immediately turn around and leave. I can not imagine my 5 year old spilling red juice or my clumsy hubby spilling coffee on this. What a pain to clean alllll those little crevices, and the potential staining it would leave!!
You can easily seal it which would prevent that from happening.
Load More Replies...The Topic was "Awful Taste, Executed Flawlessly".... For me, this is "Awesome Taste Executed Flawlessly" ! I Love it !
what's your schtick with all those "1 hour ago, 1 minute ago" ??

Okay, this is just hilarious. Imagine a chicken wearing this running towards you.
Previously, Bored Panda talked to the moderator of the Awful Taste But Great Execution subreddit, who was happy to share some insights about their community. Created in 2016, the online group is relatively new by Reddit standards, yet it has a solid member base of 1.5 million, which makes it a real powerhouse of the internet.
It turns out, in the beginning, the r/ATBGE community focused heavily on automotive-related posts since it was a spinoff on another subreddit. “To make /r/ATBGE more appealing to the masses, we opened up the subreddit to include things beyond autos (tattoos, fashion, décor, etc.)” And this is the point where the community really started to grow,” the representative of the moderator team told us.

Snow Devil
As the community grew, the moderator team grew too, establishing further and more refined rules for the community. “Now we are here and things are still looking good. We continue to add new subscribers each day, which is a good thing (considering we all do this for free).”
The creator of the also subreddit told us that the subreddit is essentially documenting things of all kinds that “display quality craftsmanship in the least elegant way possible.” The stuff is gaudy, tacky, overdone, and otherwise tasteless, but sometimes, when the work is done well, “you won't know whether to love it or hate it," they explained.

a lot of these are actually really cool and don't deserve to be shamed here.
Most of these have style and imagination. I loathe conventional design.
There’s a difference between having halfway decent taste and being boring.
