Whether a person believes in ghosts and ghouls or not, they can’t deny that some things have an eerie and strange aura about them, just like porcelain dolls, abandoned homes, or black-and-white portraits from the past. Some people might even go as far as saying they’re cursed. However, the internet nowadays has a slightly different understanding of the word, assigning it to anything that seems remotely creepy or strange.

The 'cursed.image5' Instagram page is one place where plenty of such examples reside. Scroll down to check them out yourself, and be ready to experience the creeps while perusing through these strange yet amusing photos.

While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out a conversation with award-winning horror photographer Thomas G. Anderson, who kindly agreed to tell us how he captures unsettling pictures himself.

Just realized that the accent is on the « O », not on the « E »… strange

The creations of horror photographer Thomas G. Anderson are quite a bit more intense than what this list encompasses. However, they evoke a similar feeling—an eerie, unsettling aura.

His work has even graced the cover of Asking Alexandria and has been awarded by iHorror, the top source for horror movies.

Bored Panda was lucky enough to get in touch with him and ask him all about how he started.

“Growing up, I fell in love with our family weekend trips to the VHS rental stores. I was always drawn to the horror genre and how they made those creepy covers and then practical FX! I also grew up in Pennsylvania, where I have my very own personal haunted, perhaps cursed encounters that changed my perspective of life itself!”

When I worked 'flexitime' in an office, we had to be there between 10am-12 midday, and 2-4pm. They were 'core hours'. Could have used this watch then.

Pennsylvania, where Anderson grew up, is one of the oldest states in America, which has a history of traumatic events, murders, and tragic accidents. It also has abandoned prisons and asylums, which are believed to have some paranormal activity. So it’s no surprise that a person living there feels inspired by it.

We were also curious to know where the inspiration for his creations come from. “I'm an aspiring director or film creator. I've always loved taking a scene or frame and adding an eerie, haunting overlay or character to make the viewers question the story. I also love character buildup," Anderson tells us.

This collection is pretty impressive. Especially since it includes all the knockoff Nerf guns, of which some are better than others but I'd rather have a genuine Nerf if I have to a foam dart battle.

Sometimes what sparks Anderson’s creativity is a unique hat or a vintage dress. “Then all my haunting childhood experiences,” he adds. “Film viewings and spooky camping trips come flashing back. I was born to create horror. My best advice is to be free. Be open. And allow even the darkness to pour out onto those creations!”

When it comes to the growing popularity of ‘cursed images’ online, Anderson believes that it can be beneficial for artists who experiment and step outside the ‘normal.’ “We all tend to slightly lose that spark, that light to me, our imagination with survival hardships and society's pull of fitting in. This style of art is like dress up! We manifest art or ideas that many dare not speak of nor portray, as it may leave them CURSED!”

Can't believe BP hasn't stuck a black bar over the dog's happy bits.

Since the contents Anderson includes in his photography are not for the faint of heart, we were interested to know if it can sometimes take an emotional toll on him. “I do believe any form of art, encounter or experience can impact one's emotional state! It's a matter of self-discipline. Control of that tool that began viewing the imagery. A choice. I manage it as, again, a story. A character. I am the director. The storyteller. The creator!”

Depending on the sense of humor of those involved, this could well be totally fine. I could absolutely see myself doing that if my best friend got diagnosed with autism and needed reassurance.

Slip and slide. I hope it's not in the US - I've heard about your medical bills.

That way when he dies they won't need to perform an autopsy to discover the cause of death

Environmentally friendly teacup - just eat the cup after you drink the tea. No water wasted in washing a cup/mug! (Am I the only one who loves raw bell pepper?)

Nope. My husband already has a hard time sitting still while I cut his hair. I also don’t need the sound effects he would make.
