It is interesting to me the herons are so 'tame'. Probably related to competition for food and humans feeding them. I see a heron from time to time in the pond behind my house but it does not let me get anywhere close. If it sees me it flies off. It is also solitary. I only ever see one at a time. And no, I can't be sure it is the same one but "it" has been showing up for years. I also have a pair of wood ducks who show up about the same time every year that may or may not be the same ones. :)

When I was a kid, I would hear green herons. They'd come every spring to nest on Johnson creek!
