These days, many of us become street photographers without even realizing it. There are moments when something appears funny or absurd simply because two random elements align perfectly at the right time and from the right angle, creating an amusing match. We instinctively grab our smartphones, trying to capture this lucky coincidence, and often succeed in snapping a shot we can share with friends for a good laugh.

There are also photographers who can be considered professionals in this discipline. Dedicated to constantly observing their surroundings, people like Edas Wong from Hong Kong have a unique talent for capturing these priceless moments. When photographed at the right time and place, they become a real treat for street photography enthusiasts.

The photographer from Hong Kong shared some insights about his work with us. First, we learned that focusing on the present moment is what Edas considers most important when capturing the best street photos. He explained that being highly focused and aware of our surroundings is key in this field of photography: "All interesting moments are happening around us, but we often overlook them."

We wondered how difficult it can be to capture a satisfying shot of random "happy accidents." Wong mentioned that the process behind his work can get quite complicated, requiring creative ideas and skillfully combining them with the right coincidental moments. He told us: "Sometimes if I have a new idea but feel tired and don't want to walk, I stop and try to wait for that coincidental or magic moment. However, the probability of success is usually very low."

When asked about the most memorable photo he's ever taken, the photographer shared a story where he had to be extremely patient to get the desired shot, and finally, his efforts paid off: “In a shopping mall, I observed that the graphical pattern of the clothing of a lady was very similar to that of the floor. She walked very fast into a restaurant and I missed the chance to capture that moment. However, I decided to wait for her to come out. After waiting almost 90 minutes, she finally came out. Again, she walked very fast and then disappeared into the crowd. While I felt very disappointed and turned around to leave that moment, I saw a girl who was dressed in the exact same pattern as the floor. Then I quickly captured that moment in a second without thinking.”

Lastly, Edas shared what street photography means to him personally: "I treat street photography as mindfulness. When I enter the 'concentration mode' for street photography, I am fully being 'here and now'. It makes me relaxed and happy."
