We, as people, sometimes are too difficult to understand. Our thoughts, our feelings, and our sense of humor are better received with some visual aid. That is how memes were born, and some of the funniest ones are created by using classical art as a reference to modern-day issues.

Classical Damn is an Instagram account that creates some of the greatest classical art memes, with over 343k followers on their page. I’m sure there are some, if not all of them, to which you will definitely relate. These classical art pieces with humorous or satirical captions have been on the internet for a while now, and at least for me, they never disappoint.

So, pandas, we invite you to prepare your smiling muscles for a quality workout. And for more on Bored Panda, see our previous post here.

Previously, the creator of these hilariously accurate memes has told Bored Panda that this Instagram page was started due to positive reactions from family and friends. The memes were inspired by the paintings that looked like they were exactly made for that sort of format. Though finding the right fit is not always that easy and usually takes a lot of time.

It is great that nowadays we get to see more classical art online to keep it relevant to this day for younger audiences. Not everyone knows their way around it, but with the meme format, anyone can enjoy some quality artwork.

I am sure many of you understand or have some sort of understanding of what a meme is. However, can the meme be considered an artwork in itself? If we can describe art’s purpose as an expression of human truth, then the short answer is yes. The uniqueness of memes has led to the creation of a new subculture and style of internet-based art. However, not everyone agrees that it can be classified as an art form due to the lack of originality and intentionality that traditional art forms have.

Even though not everyone accepts memes as a valid form of art, there already have been several exhibits held for internet memes. New shifts in the high-class artwork community usually do not get a warm welcome, and memes are not an exception. Similar to Andy Warhol's famous Campbell’s Soup Cans, which were not considered fine art by the elite, but had gained popularity with everyday people, memes have the potential to rise in the future.

someone once asked my why i never talk, and that's what i told them. The look of indignation I received was so satisfying.

Memes often reflect the values and beliefs of a particular generation or community and can be used to comment on society and popular culture. Overall, memes are valid forms of artistic expression that have an impact on culture far beyond the digital realm. They become embedded in our consciousness, aiding our understanding of the world around us, and form part of our cultural psyche.

So, Pandas, what are your thoughts on memes, and do you think they are art? Let us know in the comments.

Interestingly, there used to be clowns that expressed different emotions, primarily happy and sad. The fear of clowns started to become more common when they switched to just having only happy/funny clowns.
