19 New Comics By Vernessa Himmler That Cat Owners Might Find Very Relatable
Interview With Artist"Cats have the appeal of resembling stuffed animals but ask any cat owner what it's like to own one of these adorable creatures, and they will tell you the reality is not always so cuddly." That's how Vernessa Himmler, an illustrator based in Hamburg, Germany, describes life with beloved little devils and we couldn't say it better.
Living with two cats, Mikosch and Koschka, Vernessa decided to create fun comics showing the crazy side of being a "silly cat owner". The artist has been drawing since childhood and received a master's degree in illustration from HAW Hamburg. Over the years she has developed her own modern style and has created plenty of bright illustrations.
In the fun cat comics, the artist portrays her daily life as a "crazy cat lady" and the weird and funny moments with her two fluffy pets. We believe that a lot of the situations depicted in the drawings might be very familiar to all the cat owners out there. Are we right?

My mother always said "The next cat we get is going to be NAVY BLUE!"
Bored Panda reached out to Vernessa to learn more about her creative process. The artist shared with us that it takes around one hour for her to fully finish a comic. She admitted that it can be quite challenging to come up with an idea for an illustration. "The gag must fit into the four panels and shouldn’t be too complicated but relatable for the followers."
The artist works as an illustrator and sand painter in Hamburg, Germany. The areas she prefers to work in are informative illustration, non-fiction illustration and editorial illustration. The artist describes her drawing style as versatile - made up of realistic, fine drawings and modern coloring.
Vernessa shared that she loves to create things with her imagination and to make people smile with little comics about real-life problems.
my grandma: close your mouth or a fly will fly in and get stuck in there
According to the artist, all situations in these short comics are based on true events. "Sometimes I exaggerate the situations, so it gets funnier."
However, Vernessa's art collection not only consists of black and white cat comics but colorful and vivid illustrations of people and animals as well. If you're interested in seeing more of her artworks, you can check out Vernessa's Instagram page as well as her website.
Vernessa's works have been featured on Bored Panda before and the artist got a lot of your positive reactions and comments. If you want to look at the previous illustrations, you can do that by clicking here and here for more uplifting comics by Vernessa.
Don’t understand someone please explain (edit) thank you for explaining
It's a little bit confusing without context. A few years ago I worked on my master degree: an illustrated book about cats. So I illustrated more than 100 cat breeds. This was very exhausting. If you visit my IG or FB you’ll see some pics of my book and cats illustrations. 🤗
Load More Replies...Btw. This was my first comic at all. So how it all began. 😇
Ahh omg girl you are awesome! I'm lovin your comics! Keep slaying it! 🤘🖤
As you learn about the different cat breeds, some will want one of each breed. Others may realize how expensive having a lot of cats. I know there are several breeds I liked, but I can't afford more than 4 cats.
That's to many you have the fluff ball, scrunch face, gremlin, meowmix, and the chonkzilla(maincoone)
I wonder if the artist illustrated a snowshoe cat. They aren't very popular. She half Siamese half domestic. Has blue eyes, white boots and white on the face, rest looks like Siamese except for the personality. She's totally quite, doesn't talk, doesn't purr but is always near me
There is a puzzle version! I hope the website ships to Slovakia because I must have it!
There's an insane number of cat breeds out there. People don't generally realize.
I don't understand this in cat terms but I imagine it makes sense to the people who competitively play pokemon games.
Love the illustration style! Essence captured with very few lines, Haiku style illustration!
Had been hoping for this next dose of Mischko and Koschka. The illustrations are unique, especially the mouths!
You can follow her on Instagram, there are so much beautiful drawings, including the cartoons and the 100 cat breeds
Load More Replies...Thanks for reminding me why I never got around to getting one 🙃 😅
Very cute comics...gotta ask though...am I the only one surprised to see the last name? Like, how did every family with that last name not change it 75 years ago? Obviously completely tangential to the post, but seeing that surname in print is legit jarring.
I suppose that is your problem and not the family's. Associating a family name with something they had nothing to do with seems like an unhealthy habit. Why would you hurt yourself with such thinking?
Families renaming themselves after WWII happened plenty. The names of the prominent Nazi leaders also dropped off precipitously for new births - there's a reason that there are very, very few "Adolfs" in Germany any more (https://www.spiegel.de/geschichte/vorname-adolf-wie-man-mit-hitler-assoziationen-lebt-a-1152278.html). Suggesting that I'm somehow way out of line to think "It's odd that someone's family kept the same name as one of the chief architects of the systematic murder of 11 million people"...well, you're obviously welcome to judge me (since you already are)...but why would you hurt yourself with such unhealthy thinking? *shrug*
Yes, I did judge you and I'm sorry for that! It just seems odd to be affected by a name after so much time has passed. Not that we should not forget what happened of course. But people take little things so personally these days, and that can have a huge impact on mental health.
