Soo funny! I have a child who was born in Australia and one who was born in the Netherlands. I have a photo of them in the summer holidays, 20 degrees. The Aussie one is dressed in winter boots, long pants and a big winter jacket. The Dutch one is wearing a swimsuit in the paddling pool. It cracks me up everytime I look at it.

"A hundred degrees outside" - in America, this would mean a regular hot day, in Europe - an apocalyptic event :D

Probably. But why should we? It's not the world's fault that the US is the only country that uses just freedom units, instead of a proper system.

The only real advantage to Fahrenheit is that it has 180 divisions between boiling and freezing so allows for a better representation of air temperature without having to subdivide the base unit

*eyeroll* most Americans are perfectly familiar with Celsius, and metric systems of measurement. It was not adopted *officially* in the U.S.; that doesn't mean people don't learn it.

American schoolkids have known the metric system since the 1970s when it became obligatory in schools to teach it. This joke, repeated ad naseum, merely shows how ridiculously stupid feruners can be.

Ehhh, well, we Americans SORT of know what C is, but have to do some estimates in our heads. I don't think we'll ever get rid of these old measuring systems, as weird as they are. By the way, I know they still say MILEAGE in countries where metric is the standard.

This could easily be about US Northerners. It's not that unusual to see Northerners in cargo shorts in 10C or see them in jackets when it's 30C. And, yeah, I had to look up C to F to make sure I wasn't wasting my time with this comment.

American kids need parents who insist they learn both systems - because the world does not revolve around the USA, even when so many of us believe that to be true. It's beyond sad and venturing into the pathetic. (And yes, I am an American who learned and then taught my kids )

Freedom degrees vs Communist degrees! At least that's what I tell my EU gf. I still remember learning about metric system in elementary in the 60s because "we were going to convert". Apparently that is too difficult even though it took me about a week when I lived in Europe. Still better than the British with all their stones and such.

The math for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit is ridiculous it’s like take weather multiply by 1.8 or 9/5 then add 32 …that’s just so damn weird to me lol

Me

If precision isn't important like with weather, multiply by 2 then add 32. Works better with temps closer to 0.

Actually, American kids just calculate it. 10/5=2, 2x9=18, 18+32=50. (And also 50f is pretty hot, I’m from Michigan.) 30/5=6 6x9=54 54+32=86

To find out more about the Canadian lifestyle and its quirks, Bored Panda spoke with Casie Stewart, a Canadian award-winning content creator who has been documenting her life since 2005 via her blog ‘This is My Life.’ Her social entrepreneurship and dedication to social media won her 2016 Voice Pioneer at the Canadian Screen Awards by The Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television. Today, Casie is represented by the National Speakers Bureau of Canada.

Casie told Bored Panda that Canadian humor is pretty sarcastic and light-hearted. “We like to make jokes and it's true, we say 'sorry' a lot,” she said. “I grew up in Canada and I absolutely love living here. We have a great quality of life! My home is Toronto and my favorite city in Canada,” Casie told us.

When asked about her favourite Canadian cultural quirks, Casie said that one funny thing is “that ‘yeah, no’ means no, and ‘yeah, no for sure’ means yes,” she laughed. “We also spell things a bit different here than in the USA, ex honour, humour, and favourite all have a U,” Casie added.

The weather is also a big thing when it comes to Canadian life. “In Canada, we have 4 distinct seasons so we get to experience a really hot summer, beautiful Autumn colours (and fashion!), then a cold snowy winter, plus the spring where everything comes back to life,” she explained.
