I love the story of Kiwi and his Goth wife! She originally got kiwi another bird for mating first but he didn't take to her so she ended up with the goth and kiwi fell in love and they had babies. So precious!
We might think of parrots as the masters of mimicry but in fact ravens kept in captivity are just as likely to pick up human speech and sounds if not better than parrots. In the wild ravens sometimes are known to imitate other animals or mimic predators so they can attract them to carcasses that they can't break open on their own. If that's not a smart bird, we don't know what is!
This one reminds me an episode of that entertainment/documentary show about animals I catch on TV every now and then. There was a cat who was raised by a hen, then the cat grew up and had her own babies. Guess what the cat did? No, she didn't eat the hen, she left her babies for the hen to take care of, while she is wandering around free, as if she never kids in the first place.
As-if leave the kids to grandparent to take care

That is so sweet! My grandpa used to bring my grandpa a gift every Friday when he came home from work. Sadly I was 4 when he died at 48 but I have a few of the things he brought her! I wish I could have known them as a couple.

Ostriches may be known for their giant eggs, but little is said about their giant eyes - which are the largest eyes set on any land animal. That's right their eyes are the size of a billiard ball, which is 2in (5cm) in diameter, measured front to back, from the center of the cornea to the retina - five times bigger than the human eye.
Bob also looks pretty melty—probably a sudden-onset cute wave!

Every summer for the last 7 years - They died seven years ago - two dragonflies have visited me in the garden, even though I live in a place where dragonflies are not common. I know that it is not the same two dragonflies but I believe I know who sends them.
I've seen this before. It's very touching and makes me thing reincarnation might actually be a thing.
I hope not. I don't want to come back as a bird or animal
Load More Replies...Have you ever been eating outside and had your meal ruined by an invasion of ants crawling on your food or even worse on you! Well if you were a cardinal this would be a welcome scenario. This bird species likes to cover their feathers or crushed and living ants. While scientists still aren't sure the reason behind this anting, their best guess is that the birds use the formic acid secreted during this practice to help get rid of lice and other parasites.
imagine the bird gets in the engine... nice car owner
Load More Replies...How do you not notice a bird the size of a falcon flying into the front of your car in the first place?
She might have seen it fly from the one side and not been aware it got stuck on her car. I have birds dart in front of my car a lot because of where I drive, though they are usually much smaller birds
Load More Replies...Big kudos to the owner of the car. Not everyone would be so instantly willing to have their car cut up to save a bird.
I had a small bird stuck in my grill. I was terrified for the bird. I was near a tent city and a guy came over and took the bird out for me. I was relieved. I'm glad this falcon survived
I guess they are born under a lamp and not a hen. Poor little ones, wish you had some warm mummyfeathers to cuddle with.
OMG this is the cutest thing I've seen all morning. I have seen cute things in previous days, but so far today this beats the cute meter.
Letting out a fart in any circumstance is definitely impolite and embarrassing, but especially at the dinner table. Well, if you want to have a classy dinner don't invite the worm-eating Bassian thrush, they find their prey hiding under leaves by farting directly on them. The gas moves the leaf-litter and dislodges the worms - yum.
Have you ever seen your friend yawn and then tried to turn away before you 'caught the yawn?' Well this behavior of contagious yawning is seen in very few creatures other than humans, such as dogs, chimps and lab rats. Budgerigars, or budgies, a common parakeet, are the only bird species/non-mammal scientists have observed so far that also exhibit this behavior. So if you have a parakeet try not to yawn around them!
I love the mock pout that all baby and fledgling birds seem to have. Makes them look like real-life Angry Birds

Oh! Animals sulking are so adorable. Clever birds like this in particular. I had a dog that once went and curled herself around the corner of a wall in my living room and did her best to look utterly dejected because my sister and I were distracted from playing with her. Easily fixed fortunately!
I'd always heard that they think at about the same level as a 3 year old, so this checks out.
Me too. Funny when my kid was 4 I thought aww you are on the level of a bird. Ha ha

Love how different they are bright blue boys and soft grey girls. This is a beauty of a photo
I had never seen this color finch until we went to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. They’re in an open room you can walk through. A lot of different colors. If you love birds it’s worth a trip!
I thought they were finches but now I’m not sure because of the beak. A little big for the indigo bunting? I’m new to bird watching and identifying. Beautiful color either way!😀

Pigeons are amazing...they are NOT "flying rats." We also rescued a pigeon, Wilbur, when he flew and landed on my hubby's hat. He used to love to float in the bathtub like a duck. We would put the toilet seat down. He would jump on it and go to the edge of the tub, and carefully step into the tub. We miss him so much! He passed from old age..
I rescued a pigeon last week. Someone had clipped his wing feathers on the left side and did such a bad job he couldn’t fly. He was found huddling in the doorway of a hotel by a family group, and they didn’t know what to do so I took him home, gave him water and food, and took him to an animal hospital the next day.
Orange-breasted Pigeon, one species in a group of green pigeons found in Southeast Asia. I’ve actually seen this bird in the wild—it’s glorious!

Appears to be a pair of crested caracaras. The male on the left is smaller as with most birds of prey. They are members of the falcon family, but behave like vultures in that they eat carrion. National bird of Mexico. I've seen one as far north as Flagstaff AZ. I suspect they are displaying a bonding behavior.
lol I just read that as "crusted carcasses"

This is how I like animals kept, on farms, running free, not in slaughterhouses, crammed up in tiny cages. I like how chickens look like elderly ladies trying to see neighbour's baby.
100% true facts, that's why i haven't eaten one in 9 years, how can i find something so cute and beautiful but then pay to eat it's slaughtered carcass when it just wanted to live, also what they do is male chicks is despicable.

Canadian geese are literally EVERYWHERE. You think the jaywalkers who just cross in front of you car are bad?? hahaha. Well Canadian geese will do it and stop in front of your car, stare you down, and laugh maniacally if you honk your horn.
True but I had to like the picture as I aspire to be as cool as animals ;)
Load More Replies...This is funny. But it’s also depressing. Cities are huge wastelands of no green and no water. This bird is struggling to find something normal in this cement hellhole.
Jace, you are 100% right & it's NOT just animals that need nature. We are ALL born from nature & when we don't get it, it wreaks havoc on our emotional, spiritual & physical well being.

Please do NOT feed them bread. It is bad for them and can cause defects in the shells.
Shells? I agree with you in general, as bread is a huge filler food with little nutritional value, but birds don't have shells.
Load More Replies...How awesome to live in a place where you have these gorgeous birds--are you in South America?
Please don't give birds bread, it's like junk food for them and offers no nutrition, give them corn or something.
Only if it's NOT GMO corn which is really hard to get now.
Load More Replies...Don't feed them bread. It fills them up and is not nutritious enough. Get them proper bird food if you want them to live.

Notice how his head is still at the same height in both photos. That's an owl for ya.
That’s about the size of the one we held and he was only about 4 pounds!
I've seen these in bird world and thought they looked like they belong in David Bowie's Labyrinth

Ahhhhw. Looks like a (mostly) fullgrown Long-tailed tit though. :3 They're the cutest little birds.
They're beautiful little birds, I adore them. A pair nested in my garden last year. Amazingly I managed to see a couple of chicks fledge. If a hen has a failed nest she will help look after another brood. They didn't nest this year but I have been lucky enough to watch two separate bird boxes of blue tits on their maiden voyages. Long tailed tits are definitely my favourite, very small and very noisy - you hear them long before you see them!

I have a parrot and the little parrot put it’s head on the place where the warm stuff that you find on your car comes out, you know what it is
He/she knows it's a fake, and is showing the humans how stupid they are.
I was sitting in the hospital duck pond garden and my daughter pointed out an owl sitting on a high ledge. I had never seen a wild owl and I went to take a photo of it but as I was zooming in a pigeon decided to sit on its head. It turns out it was supposed to be a bird deterrent. well it doesn’t work lol.
Reminds me of the time I was at the aquarium and there were a bunch of crocodiles sitting in an outdoor setting while some seagulls were brazenly sitting on them. My dad and I were all impressed until my mother pointed out that the crocodiles were fake. XD!
Load More Replies...None of these decoys work for very long. Snakes, hawks, owls, even with built-in response mechanisms like lights, sounds, or flashing eyes, only work until the animals (whose survival depends on being clever every day) figure out that they are no threat. I have found that male urine does repel raccoons though.
There are some of those owl statues on top of the houses in my neighborhood. I see pigeons on them sometimes, too.
It’s not, and they won’t stay long because there’s not a lot to eat around there. I have to admit that my first thought was to wonder who had to clean up the poops.

Re; something said in the texts. I can make my cat yawn by yawning at him. and vice versa. .... If you are going to keep birds PLEASE keep more than one. Birds live in flocks and family clans, To keep one alone - especially if you work and leave it alone - is cruel.
Depends on the type of bird and the bird itself.
Load More Replies...Very nice! One night I was traveling home from our lower university campus. They had just finished construction on a new science building complete with glass roof. As I walked the path to home, I saw two girls staring and pointing at the building. I said "Who's jumping?" They said "No... there's an owl on the building." Illuminated in the light coming from inside the building stood a huge great horned owl. He looked like he was the king of his territory. As I continued on my travels, I heard bats flying in the direction of the science building. A loud screech from the owl and those bats made a beeline in the opposite direction.
In the 70's my sister found a baby injured magpie. She gave him to my dad who just had a massive heart attack. As they both recovered together they really bonded. Named him Max. He talked but only repeating what my dad said. Dad and I built him a huge aviary. Max would call our dog Shorty to come here then drop food down to the dog. He also would purposely put chicken bones close to the cage edge and when the cats tried to reach in to steal it he would peck them. He was really an intellegent character. Miss him.
Totally random, but my gran is turning 100 this year and every time I see birds, I think of her :) She used to take me to the park (or even sitting outside on her porch) and we'd watch the birds. She knew all their names and could do some bird whistles. She'd feed them seeds that we called song food. I hope someday I have grandkids to take to the park to bird watch - I'd love to be like her <3
