Bored Panda has reached out to Albeniz to find out more about his work and inspirations. Firstly we wanted to know how he got interested in caricature art, and what drew him to this particular style. He answered: “I've always drawn everywhere and known people, so it was instinctive for me to portray them... I realized they liked them a lot and so I thought I'd make a real work out of them, the style I use is sober, I don't like to transfigure or ridicule the characteristics of those I draw, and maintain a light and witty style.”
Then, we were curious to find out more about his creative process. We asked how he goes about creating a new caricature. He told us: “It is always important to choose a good subject to be inspired by but it is also something extremely subjective, having the ability to see details that for others are trivial is fundamental in my case.”
Asked if he also likes trying some new techniques other than digital illustration, Albeniz said: “I really love traditional drawing techniques and for years I have worked on my caricatures with brushes and pastels, I am also happy to use watercolors and I have recently launched a line of brass palettes made by me.”
Lastly, we wanted to know how big a role his large following on social media plays. We were wondering if it has impacted his work and career as an artist. Albeniz told us: “Social media have given me the opportunity to make my works and my style and this meant that I was contacted by film production companies and publishing houses. I admit that the web allows artists to have a visibility that was once unthinkable.” He also mentioned he got to collaborate with film production companies like Disney, and he described this experience as: “challenging but enthusiasm and creativity always win!”
