American news makes headlines all over the world. But if we were to judge the US based entirely on what we read and hear on mass media, where the content is trying to manipulate us into clicking and scrolling, we could end up with a warped impression of the country. So let's see what average people have to say about it instead.
We at Bored Panda have searched the internet to compile a list of relevant memes about life in the United States, and are quite happy with what we found. These images made it to the forefront of social media platforms not because they were promoted by some publisher, but because they struck a chord with the users, and when put together, paint a pretty vivid picture of the place they come from.

The affordability of health care is high on the public's list of the biggest issues in the United States today, with 56% of adults describing this as "a very big problem" and an additional 30% rating it "a moderately big problem," a 2021 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed.
In fact, health care cost is the only issue of the 15 asked on the survey seen as a very big problem by a majority of Americans, though about half say that the federal budget deficit (49%), violent crime (48%), illegal immigration (48%) and gun violence (48%) also qualify.
Me from a small country with a nightmare language waiting to ask her if she is going to learn the language of every country she ever travels to.
As the Biden administration makes its case for massive new investment in the nation's infrastructure, its condition ranks relatively low on the list of major problems facing the country.
About a third of adults (34%) say the condition of infrastructure is a very big problem, four-in-ten say it is a moderately big problem, and a quarter say it is either a small problem (23%) or not a problem (2%).
Though neither domestic nor international terrorism ranks among the public’s top problems, roughly a third of Americans (35%) say domestic terrorism remains a very big problem in the country while a smaller share (26%) say the same about international terrorism.
Also, old enough to be forced to give birth, not yet old enough to consume alcohol
The data also illustrates the division between Americans. Republicans and Democrats are far apart on the biggest problems facing the country.
Gun violence, the affordability of health care, the coronavirus outbreak, and racism are each seen as very big problems by two-thirds or more Democrats and Democratic leaners.
But far fewer Republicans say these are major problems in the country. Four-in-ten think health care affordability is a very big problem, and only about two-in-ten rate the coronavirus and gun violence as very big problems.
To be fair this is off a freeway . our cities have subway Wal-Mart's and Starbucks. It's like a kit .
If you speak fluent is it still Spanish or do you graduate to just speaking 'Span'?
It often seems no longer just Republican vs. Democrat, or liberal vs. conservative. There's also tension between the 1 percent and the 99 percent, or rural and urban. Religious folks are fighting atheists, climate doubters clash with believers. Bathrooms have become battlefields, borders are battle lines. Then there's sex, ethnicity... The list goes on and the melting pot seems to be boiling, with steam filling even TV studios.
Why use a banana for scale when you can use this gleeful Labrador?
No, actually, we -hear me out- we microwave it. *awkward jazz hands*
According to researchers behind the USC Polarization Index, a tool that helps organizations understand the level of discord in America and make more informed decisions about their own positions on various issues, the threats of destabilization are coming from within and outside of the country.
Some of the fake news has been propagated by foreign countries such as Russia, while social media users have aided – at times unwittingly — in its spread. These examples include fake news stories and tweets questioning Hillary Clinton’s health in the runup-to the 2016 election. Days before Election Day, Russian-run accounts were sowing doubt about election integrity.
“Political scientists had opined in the middle of the 20th century that there was really no difference between the Republicans and Democrats,” said Jenkins of the USC Price School for Public Policy and director of the Bedrosian Center. “In 1950, they urged the parties to stake out distinct positions on issues so that citizens would get different perspectives. Jump ahead to today, and it’s clear that you have a real choice between the two parties.
“We look back now and wish that maybe we hadn’t asked for that,” said Jenkins, who has been studying polarization for more than 20 years.
Hopefully, Americans can still come together. They need to if they want to tackle the biggest problems in their country.
Lol- I still struggle with this when I look at American date format- I mean I get it, but my knee jerk reaction is always "wait...........there aren't that many months in a year! Genuine question- why DOES America do this- it literally makes no logical sense to me- am I missing something?
No, we don’t. Look I’m in the first to criticize this shitty country I live in, but we aren’t all morons who have never left the country and don’t know geography.
Load More Replies...As an American this does bother me, so I'll do us all a favor. France, Sweden, Germany.
I like to show americans that we can name states and towns in usa. Watch: pensacola, florida (FL). Flagstaff, arizona (AZ). Seattle, Washington (WA).
Load More Replies...I went to an American high school and geography was mostly America. History, only America. No wonder no one knows what's happening elsewhere.
That’s crazy. We had world history and geography classes throughout high school that covered the entire globe.
Load More Replies...This only applies to empty-headed idiots who are incapable of learning—-and MAGAts who don’t care about facts and just make s**t up on the fly to try to look like they’re smart. It doesn’t work, btw.
It's this new thing in the U.S.. We award college degrees and wisdom solely based on being part of the correct political party.
Load More Replies...The vast majority of us will gladly name more than 3 European countries. How are you any better than us if you can't even think past a stereotype? It takes an uneducated mind to characterize 340 million people as all the same. And no, you aren't good-naturedly playing with us.
There is no continent called "America". There is North America and South America. If N and S America are just one continent, then so are Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Load More Replies...Although there are places in the US where the quality of education is poor, the majority of the states have better than average quality of education. So the above statement does not ring true for the majority of the nation. Most of the poorer states, in the Southern portion of the US, are the ones with the lowest quality. Fortunately, we are working on bringing the quality up to par with the rest of the nation.
You need the animals l animaniacs song... Sing it with me now... U...nited states, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Jamaica Peru........
Ok I've posted this before but when I was a waitress in my late 20's I asked my 18-23 year old xoworked to name 3 countries in South America. I asked like 10 of them and noone could except the idiot burnout stoner; he rattled off like 6. I stopped him and was just like wow dude you really surprised me especially since you weren't done naming them. I also asked them to name the 7 continents and noone could; one girl even said "the north pole where Santa lives" as a continent
Actually it is the UK, not England. The UK is the political entity (country) England is a part of.
Load More Replies...Hold it... I'm an American and I know every country in Europe, its history, and its culture. It's not funny to insult our intelligence, joke or not. I feel like this whole post was out together by a disgruntled European...
there are those of us that understand what a country is as opposed to a continent. My three guesses are France, Portugal, and Switzerland.
We were asked if we have supermarkets in the Netherlands.. just sayin'...
I met an American who was adamant that the Birmingham in England was named after the one in Alabama. Adamant.
BLAME OUR POOR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. WHERE WOKE IS KING AND REALITY IS DEAD.
To be fair, right about now we can probably get Ukraine, Russia, and Germany.
I think Jimmy Fallon does a bit on this. Except it's even better because he shows a world map but flipped so North/South America are on the right side (always on the left side here) and then he asks people on the street to point to the United States on the map and they always end up pointing to Russia, China or on special occasions they point to Greenland
Iceland, France, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic....did they never pass Grade 9?
To be fair, my brain jumps to Europe being a country even though I know it's not, and I'm not American either
Maybe the college educated morons. How about France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Switzerland and Poland? Just to name a few.
"College-educated" is a compound adjective, and whether or not Wales is a country is a subject of some debate (it isn't but it likes to think it is).
Load More Replies...why would we? the test is to name european states. Hawai'i is a former monarchy which used to be reigned by King Kamehameha when it was colonised first by the Brits then the americans, and is now a state of usa. Capital Honolulu on island of Oahu. PS - african. Yes, I know that much about yall.
Load More Replies...it's perfectly understandable if you look at a graph of IQ. half the population is below average.
Load More Replies..."Africa's not a country....huh??!!!!" Edit: I don't know if some of y'all think I actually think this but the "s are there because thats what people say when people tell them its not a country
What is it with these ridiculous statements? Please remember that it is the ignorant who speak the most and the loudest and you should not confuse them with an entire country of more than 330,000,000 people. The US has the world’s 3rd largest population and anyone who believes that it is a homogeneous, group-think, a hotbed of hootenanny gun toting hillbillies, would find themselves in the same category they dump all Americans into. It gets old very fast.
So y'all measure pizza in acres and potholes by how many dogs fit?
What on earth are Americans scared of? Aliens? The world ganging up on you for some s**t? Social amenities?
The rest of the world sees the U.S. the way the U.S. sees Florida.
I'm in the USA but my birthday is on Canada Day. I always joke I'm Canadian because of it. I. Want. This. Cake.
This "confusion" exists because we are taught diferent at school, in the USA and Canada they are taught that this huge chunk of land (from Canada to Argentina) is divided in 2 continents: North America and South America; and in the rest of this chunk of land we are taught that it is 1 continent called America; so you will often hear any latinamerican calling themselves Americans and not North/South Americans; and to add more confusion to the subject we (latinos) split the continent in 3 sections North/Central/South America.
Some of us remain abnormal due to brain damage. If USA had a brain, we might know where to assign blame.
When an American says 'you have scary socialist healthcare because we have defense', the truth is: the US spends more per capita than any other country on healthcare, yet coverage is less than third world level. For shame.
Actually as an African I can say we DO like the USA. BUT we find your hypocrisy staggering. "democracy and freedom" but invade lots of other countries, ditch roe vs wade, george floyd, etc. Not to mention student debt, medical debt, flint michigan, the ORANGE ONE, drone strikes, etc. etc. You preach equality, freedom and fraternity but in practice behave much like fascists.
Load More Replies...Not American but seriously stop USA bashing. They are busy basing one another. You don't have to make it a global scene..😆
There's a lot to not like about the USA, but there's also a lot to love about it. Stereotyping a whole country does not bring the tolerance and reform that you would like to see. Making fun of other countries (or individual people) is both naïve and unhelpful. Lifting each other higher can only be accomplished by honest dialogue and by continuing to set a good example.
I do agree that there is a lot to love about America, but it is also worth noting that prior to the internet being used in the way it is today, I had no idea about some of the issues that plague America, that medical bankruptcy was possible, how many deaths are caused by guns, how the poorer sections of society are treated, water can be turned off if you don’t pay your bill etc etc. Surely it’s better that these issues are highlighted and those who are directly affected by them can learn more about other countries and how it doesn’t have to be like that.
Load More Replies...You need to grow up. This kind of thing is both infantile and stupid. The US does not have one homogenous culture any more than the EU does. Imagine if I judged your country based on the absolute worst examples.
It’s also really disheartening to see so many commenters basically calling all Americans complete idiots, acting as if all 330 million of us are a monolith. Like no, we don’t all believe Europe and Africa are one single country. Many of us regularly travel outside the country. We have taken world history and know geography. Some of us even do speak more than one language, shocking!
Load More Replies...we get it everyone hates the usa. cool!!!! now can we have posts that aren't about this for once?
Hey boys and girls, do you know what time it is? That’s right, it’s time for BoredPanda’s weekly American sucks post! Yeah! Honestly though, I’m not even from the United States and I’m starting to find these posts insufferable. BoredPanda, please don’t go the route of Buzzfeed. You have actual writers and photographers as your employees— please use them. Copying and pasting “Am I the Arshole articles”and posting listicles like this is getting really old.
Ugh. Enough with the USA bashing. It's not funny or good entertainment. Downvote.
Please BP., feel free to f*** off. I’m still waiting for you to s**t on the Middle East and China. Well. America isn’t the only easy target a**holes
Honestly, this may be a site just to stir up American hatred
Load More Replies...I find it fascinating that a website made and run by Lithuanians is so obsessed with the US, to the point of being borderline xenophobic.
Gross and it’s so lazy and simpleminded of BP to push this shite.
I'm American but live in Spain. The U.S.A. is a big country full of many different cultures and groups people. Any stereotype is going to have a multitude of exceptions. That said, many of these stereotypes ring true for swathes of the country. And the U.S. is in deep, deep trouble these days with the MAGA-maggots who are mostly uneducated, not well traveled, highly susceptible to conservative fake news, and have their heads stuck in the ground.
Y'all know that the extreme patriots are a minority right? Americans are just like everyone else. Sad to see this article:(
BP. You. Need. To. Chill. We get the bad stuff about america, you don’t need to keep repeating it. Sure america has its bass but it also has its goods. Which country is head in science and technology? Which country put a man on the moon? Which country has the company that gives us the ability to communicate across the world? Which country is ready to support our allies as soon as needed? Which country is working hard to build weapons and sending them to Ukraine, but not joining the war because of the fear of a Third World War? Which country has the best educational rankings?
How about we get one of those posts from Reddit (since it is where the majority of BP "content" is stolen from) that talks about the good things in USA? Because it is not just about healthcare, education, guns, burgers.
And before people say there are no good things, I’m just going to point a few out. Space exploration, technology industries, jobs, it’s in the top 20 happiest countries in the world, and that is pretty good considering there are around 200 countries.
Load More Replies...I love the heading to this article. It more or less says that the mainstream media gives us a warped view of America, and this shows us what America is actually like to the average people. Then it only focuses on America's negative things, lol.
Hey uh, UK? Sorry for doing the whole tea thing and the war..... Can I come back please??
I disagree that all "fake news" comes from Russia. That statement in itself is fake, and it is a sample of American government propaganda. Russiagate came from the Clinton campaign in 2016, and it was dreamed up by Hillary Clinton to explain to herself why she, the obvious perfect candidate, had lost the election, because it couldn't of course have anything to do with the fact that she was the most disliked person of all the choices. It quickly morphed into "Trump was in bed with Russia" yada yada, to keep the electorate focused on anything but that the Democrats weren't keeping their promises.
I’m traveling to Egypt from San Francisco on Tuesday with my 13 year old daughter… my first time in 20 years and her first time ever, to visit family. We have stopovers in Germany and on the way back, London and Vancouver. Our game plan is to be “flies on the wall” except with our family. At times I am embarrassed to be American.
I live in the rural U.S. and these "America bashing" threads honestly give me a glimmer of hope that I'm not the only one that thinks we're absolutely nuts.
Ideally a USA bashing article should be put once a year, At least we will get new jokes.

I don't think the rest of the world thinks that the USA is sh!t. Other countries have their issues too. Look at what's happening in Europe at the moment.
