If you had to carry around a sign for a day, pandas, what would yours say? Perhaps you would want to remind others how important it is to wear SPF. Or maybe you’d encourage them to compliment another person to make someone else’s day! Or, if you’re really creative, you might want to write a confusing and chaotic message for all to see. You certainly wouldn't be the first to do so...

If you’re interested in checking out some bizarre and hilarious signs, you’ve come to the right place. We took a trip to a couple of Facebook groups dedicated to sharing wild signs, Absurd Signs (Not Absurd Rules) and The Absurd Sign Project Uncensored 2, and gathered some of their best posts down below. Keep reading to find a chat with Chuck Darling, an admin of Absurd Signs (Not Absurd Rules), and be sure to upvote all of your favorite pics!

When it comes to signs, there are endless possibilities out there. And no, I’m not talking about signs from the universe. (Although, some of the signs featured here might be equally as cryptic and unintelligible.) We’ve got road signs, signs outside of businesses, billboards, stop signs, yard signs outside of people’s homes and more. Signage is a part of our everyday lives, whether we like it or not. But lucky for us, it can sometimes be hilarious and entertaining.

To learn more about this topic, we reached out to Chuck Darling, an admin of Absurd Signs (Not Absurd Rules), who was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda. According to the group’s description, Absurd Signs (Not Absurd Rules) is “for posting absurd signs, letters, banners, labels, and tee shirts.” The community also welcomes “any use of the English language you find awkward,” such as product labels and more.

My Uncle has this very warning on his front door. Too many years of working third shift, and being awakened in the middle of his "night" by people who did not take "Go the F*&^ away!" for an answer.

As far as how this group came about, Chuck shared that his friend Phil (also known as "Denton Vale") created the group. “He made it as a result of his dissatisfaction with what he felt were pointless rules in other large popular signage groups (not naming any names),” Chuck explained.

“He asked me to help him with it, as I have a history of helping moderate other large groups like ‘a group where you get banned for saying the magic word’ and ‘Weird Meme,'" he added.

We’ve actually featured Weird Meme at Bored Panda before; feel free to check out that piece here!

I'm really ok with vegan people, they can do whatever they make them happy and healthy. I'm ok with eating less meat, i do eat way less meat than 20 years ago but every time i see a vegan propaganda i just want to eat a steak. My brain just want to f**k around.

I wouldn’t mind vegan people if a lot of them didn’t try to force it onto others

I am not against vegans. However, being vegan and forcing it on other people are two very different things

I used to be vegan. I'd never bring it up, but often during a meal, someone would ask me about it. Without fail, every single time, a meat-eater made a massive issue about it, making jokes, pulling faces, saying stupid s**t like "well, I guess I'll eat even more meat to make up for you", etc., in addition to waving forkfulls of meat in my face, or putting ribs on top of my food. Here on BP, people love to give vegans s**t, but I guarantee meat eaters are just as bad.

For whatever cause it might be, please don't put stickers on street signs. You can cause accidents this way.

BBQ sauce does enhance. I personally recommend Country Bob's. It goes with any sort of meat.

For hard core vegans: It's not what you eat, it is how it is grown. Pesticide soy that destroys indigenous lands and cause erosion, is more harmful than local farm-raised chickens. Also, try a vegan diet without packages...hard heh? Plastic takes gazillion years to decompose

They don't want to think about the impact their choices have on the environment, they're too busy trying to make everyone else feel guilty to feel better about themselves. I know, not all vegans are like this, just the loud obnoxious ones.

People choose whatever is most important to them. Sadly a lot of vegans exist only to preach their lifestyle and try to shame others by extolling their virtues. Keep it to yourself and don't think you are somehow better than others.

And you can eat it without any sauce, sometimes depending on the meat you will ruin it if you add some sauces. I would not add barbacue sauce to entraña (dont know the translation, it comes from Argentina), only chimichurri (another kind of sauce also from Argentina)

Well, from my point of view (I'm a Spaniard, ¡un saludo!), even chimichurri is quite invasive as a flavour (and it looks like every single Argentinian has a personal/family recipe), and this is the reason why I only eat it with chicken, but never would put it in a nice roast loin (either such loin comes from Argentina or from Galicia). Of course, this is how I grew up regarding flavours.

I have an in-law who is holier than thou and so superior about being vegan so I just roll my eyes and limit my exposure even though I don't eat much meat. However, I am now appreciative for what vegan foods are now available as my grandson is severely allergic to all dairy products and eggs. His diet is already so restricted so these products do legitimately serve a purpose for many people. I can just do without the attitude.

I absolutely hate it when other vegans like the famous vegan teacher are so pushy to the people that do eat meat to not and it creates this illusion on what all vegans are like and it pisses me of because i am a solid vegan for 12 year's and so is my mother and aunt and there are so many awesome vegans out there that it makes me so sad to see people like this ruining it for all of us. P. S if you have made it to the end of this rant here's a cookie

Oh so funny. I mean, how obnoxious and self righteous can it be to lend one's voice to a voiceless animal which will violently be killed, when this harrassment of those who cause it is so much worse than the actual situation those animals are in - a slight discomfort of a human, caused by words describing a choice nothing ever forces them to, of course outweighs any and every suffering they put those animals through. Oh, that is so evil - words, they used words! Why is that even legal? I wonder how those poor innocent supporters of slavery even have survived those idenitcally obnoxious cotton-haters, who just couldn't keep their preferences in clothing to themselves and had to harrass them, just because their opinion about negroes regards them as disposable. As if it were their problem! We should celebrate those brave protagonists of free will and free choice, who were so badly betrayed by history and the nervegrinding holier-than-thou of the so-called abolitionists, with a freedom-flag (that is, a red one with diagonal stripes, blue ones with stars) in one hand, and a suasuge in the other! - seriously? The attitude that one's own exclusion of (insert her: different species, skin colour, religion, region of origin or any other arbitrary distinction) from ethical consideration should make it mandatory to everybody else, wiping out the right to disagree and admit so, regardless of inconvenient facts that identifies antivegans as the true heros of freedom and compassion. How dare those vegans, how can they even sleep at night, if they point out something like that? They need the sharpest weapon of all times aimed at them - "BuT bAcOn11111". Those obnoxieties of humans, ...

The Absurd Signs group was created in September 2022, and it’s clearly had plenty of success, as it currently has over 32K members. And it seems to only be going up from here, as over 3,600 Facebook users have joined the group in the last week.

But thankfully, Chuck says being an admin isn’t too tough. “I don't really have to do a lot of moderating with this group, mostly just making posts and removing spam,” he shared. “[And] kicking out bigoted hateful people that might show up, every now and then.”

As far as why so many of us are amused by these bizarre signs, Chuck says, “I think people like subversions of expectations, seeing memes and signs that don't make sense right away, as well as ones that just make you wonder what the sign maker was even thinking.”

We also asked Chuck if he could share any of his favorite signs that have been shared in the group. One of which is what he referred to as “party dog,” which features a sign of a dog who appears to be skateboarding, smoking and drinking wine all at once that’s “banned” from a park. His other personal favorite was a sign for “The Unbelievable Mystery Hole” in West Virginia.

If you’re looking to design a sign of your own, for your business or personal use, it’s important to remember that it’s pointless unless it actually grabs people’s attention. To do so, you might want to include a funny joke, an eye-catching image or a clever pun. Target Print & Mail recommends making sure your sign has a purpose and focusing on that first and foremost. For example, are you trying to make those passing by laugh, draw in customers, educate readers, inspire or inform?

When it comes to designing your sign, don’t be afraid to stand out. There are infinite possibilities when it comes to colors, shapes, size, and how you choose to communicate your message. Get creative, and make sure that you play around with fonts and images to ensure your final product is as effective as possible. Bonus points if you create a sign that people will want to photograph and share on social media! That’s free advertising or exposure without any additional effort.
