Foxes, the sneaky and adorable members of the canine family, make good pets as they are able to form strong bonds with caring owners. While these high-energy and aloof animals are not for everyone, an extremely dedicated and loving owner will be able to handle the task. If you think you’re ready for this challenge, there are many rescue shelters that are giving up foxes for adoption.

One of them is a non-profit rescue called SaveAFox which saves ill and injured foxes from fur farms and rehomes abandoned pet foxes. While trying to help out these quirky animals, the organization also shares some adorable and funny moments of their lives. Recently, they posted a video showing one of their rescues stealing her carer’s phone and trying to bury it. The video, which quickly went viral, left people in stitches by the mischievous fox.

The video starts with the founder of SaveAFox, Mikayla Raines, trying to film herself doing Yoga with the phone placed on the ground. That’s when the sneaky fox named Dixie comes in. Dixie completely ignores Mikayla’s pleas to leave the phone alone, grabs it, and runs away.

The woman goes after the fox, who sprints with the phone in her mouth, still recording the hilarious predicament. After running a long distance without being caught, Dixie tries to bury the phone in the ground. That’s a good way to make sure you’ll get all of the attention to yourself, Dixie!

However, Mikayla catches on and takes the phone away from her, filming her smug little face.

The adorable fox you just saw in the video, Dixie, recently turned 3 years old. “Dixie is a pet surrender and came to us because her original human passed away unexpectedly and the remaining family couldn’t care for her. Dixie is a permanent resident at Saveafox,” Merri, a rescue coordinator at Saveafox, told Bored Panda. But don’t let the sweet looks deceive you, Dixie isn’t just cute, she’s also a very naughty fox. “Dixie is affectionate, sassy, particular and sweet. She is very mischievous and never lets an opportunity pass her by to take something or to sit on someone’s head – she is the undisputed queen of Saveafox. And, apparently, a thief, too! “She steals things often – hats, gloves, full garbage bags, food – this was her first phone!”

Mikayla decided to open her own rescue after visiting a fur farm for the very first time. After seeing how poorly the foxes are treated there, the kind-hearted woman knew what she had to do. Mikayla put her years of experience volunteering in animal shelters to good use and opened SaveAFox rescue.

“Mikayla has always had an affinity for and with animals, ever since she was a small child and from a young age, she would rescue and rehabilitate injured animals she found. As soon as she was old enough, she began volunteering with a wildlife rehabber and that’s when she met her first fox kit; she was 15 and it was love at first sight. At that point, Mikayla wasn’t even thinking of running a rescue but she knew she wanted to have a fox in her life; in 2016, she was approached to bottle raise a captive bred red fox kit, her first fox, Farrah Foxett. Owning a fox opened a whole new world to Mikayla, one she didn’t even know existed; because of how often She shared Farrah with the world through social media, Mikayla was put in touch with and contacted by fur farmers. Fur farms are something most people, including at that time Mikayla, never even knew was a current active business in the U.S. After rescuing her first three fox pups from a fur farm (rejected by their mother), Saveafox was born,” Merri told us.

Saveafox Rescue is the largest fox rescue in the US. “We rescue foxes from fur farms, hoarding, abuse and neglect situations and also takes pet surrenders from people who are either in over their heads or who can no longer care for their fox; the eventual goal is to find them a permanent, loving home,” the rescue coordinator said.

If you’d like to help SaveAFox continue the good work they do, you can support the rescue by joining their Patreon, donating via their website or buying a gift from their Amazon wish list. The rescue also encourages people to join their team of sponsors and follow them on social media.

I follow these guys on Instagram. They do incredible work and the foxes are extremely well cared for. There's a lot of cuteness, but she also keeps it real by sharing the struggles involved in caring for so many big personalities. There's pee to clean up in the house, fights to break up, and emergency trips to the vet to go along with all the heart melting videos and cute pictures she puts up. Never a dull moment at Saveafox!

foxes actually don't make great pets, they're really sweet and amazing animals but they're not meant for home life, and it takes an incredible amount of effort to raise a fox and give it the love and care it deserves, even the people on instagram w the foxes admit that its really really hard

Aww my god, its adorable I would love to have a pet fox but I will never adopt one because I know I don't have the space or the time for one. It would be cruel to keep it inside all day with no places to run or dig and buying its proper diet would be hella expensive for me.
