I Turned My Spare Bedroom Into A Foster Room For 24 Cats

I have been fostering cats for a year and a half. In that time, I have fostered 24 cats! It all started when the Humane Society posted on Facebook that they needed a foster home for a mamma and her two kittens. I decided to give it a try and fell in love with the experience. The experience inspired me to continue fostering on my own. I now catch stray and feral cats. I even turned the spare bedroom in my apartment into a foster room!

I foster all of the cats until they are socialized, then I either bring them to the local, non-kill shelter or find them a home on my own. There have been times that the cats I took in were too feral to socialize. In those cases, I had the cat spayed or neutered and returned them to their home on the street. Two of the feral cats continue to get fed regularly. Some of the cats are super friendly and don’t need any socialization at all!

awwwww this is just beautiful... i would do it myself if my mom would let me see we live in a trailer park and there are probably about 150 stray cats that live here and none of them are spayed or neutered so more are coming each year. we have very harsh winters here so if the cats especcailly the kittens dont adapt fast... then they dont survive. i feel so bad for them we already saved a kittenand shes healthy and happy now and has a forever home with us but we live in a little trailer and cant have tons of cats. we have two cats already the rescued kitten and a year old shelter boy. they are happy and healthy but i always think about all the other cats and feel so bad.

oh no, that is very sad! Maybe there are trap-neuter-release programs in your area that could help. They are not very popular but they are becoming more and more popular. Maybe you can contact local shelters and see if they will take in ones you catch? Good luck!! It's not easy!

I would like to foster too- did you exclusively keep them in the bedroom? I have a large extra room and was wondering if it was OK to keep them in there all the time (if I turned it into a cat friendly environment) Just so they don’t mark or spray around the rest of the house.

Your vet bills must be large, since rescue cats often come with health problems plus an unknown history of shots. My hat is off to you for finding a way to do this for our cat Kingdom (capital K for a reason)!

Good job! And Anabelle, don't feel bad, you are doing the best you can, be happy with your mom and little fellow companions, :)
