Used to work at an ice cream store part time. We made our waffle cones from scratch and at regular intervals. Not just because of the demand. The strong scent could be smelled from outside the building and draw people in. Also, people were more likely to buy waffle cones or increase their serving size when we were cooking up a fresh batch. Good business strategy. And hey, made my clothes smell nice (I had a jacket that smelled like fresh waffle cones for 3 months after I left that place)
A lot of stores with in-store bakeries pipe the scent of baking out into the store and to the entrances.
Who falls for that? Bakeries used to smell of actual bakery goods when I was a kid. Now most of them don't because they don't bake in house anymore but get their baked goods delivered from a distribution center. The fake smell is always the same and noticably artificial. The real smell was different every day.

Oooooh, yeeeees - I used to live near McCormick Spices, and work by Goetze's Candy (they make the "cow tails" and the "bulls' eye's" - both of caramel with vanilla powdered sugar) and it smelled HEAVENLY very often - I miss that!!!!
Load More Replies...Ah yes, I did a stint at the waffle baking carussell myself. Naturally the thing was situated in the front window so people could watch the process. I must feature in dozens of chinese holiday films.
Did some drywall work at an Otis Spunkmeyer corporate office, every few hours they would bake a batch of cookies. Smelled so good. Gained about 5 pounds that week.
When I worked at our local mall in the 80's there was an ice cream store nearby and the smell of them baking the waffle cones was divine!
For the most part, it’s not executives and agents that read scripts, but their assistants. By this standard, it is the assistants of the entertainment industry that are primarily responsible for what actually gets made. Still blows my mind
I read book manuscripts as a trainee. And yes, it makes sense to assign this to the lowest rung employee, because the vast majority of what comes in is so bad it wouldn't even pass as a 6th grade essay assignment. The stuff that is well written and at least somewhat engaging, is passed on to higher decision makers. I literally passed on only 2 manuscripts in 3 months. Out of hundreds.
We recruit research fellows every year and during recruitment we hire interns (paid) to filter the proposals we receive. We usually receive 800-900 and interns give us about 150 eligible/complete ones.

Our VP embezzled 7 million dollars. The company decided not to charge him because then it would be public news. Months after he was fired he contacted my boss asking for a reference lmaoooooo
Or perhaps the company decided not to charge him because it was someone else in the company that embezzled that money, not the fall guy. Edit: crooked employees are very good at getting innocent employees fired by blaming their crooked dealings on the innocent victims. Happened to me twice.
Load More Replies...He probably embezzled because he had a gambling problem or something like it that was causing him to burn through money like crazy. Or another common thread in cases like that is they basically do it on something small planning on it being a one time thing and get like addicted to it and their spending gets more and more extravagant causing them to embezzle more making the budget short fall bigger and more noticable.
Load More Replies...I once caught one of my senior students cheating on a test. A week later he asked me to write him a recommendation for college. When I pointed out that I would have to include last week's cheating incident in the letter, he asked if I could just leave that out. "No," I said "That would be cheating."
My former office manager was embezzling from the orthopedic surgery practice I used to work at, and they didn't want to charge her and have it made public either. She was fired and in the process of repaying when I quit. That office was drama central and I couldn't take it anymore.
My partner worked with a finance guy who used secret Excel formulas to embezzle 1Mil and he didn't get charged either. Like how does this happen and why aren't raises given out. Makes no sense
He's probably a spoiled rich boy experiencing lifestyle inflation because he can't budget.

yes, x did die in his office and nobody noticed for four days.
I've worked with people whose death would have been immediately noticed because of the sudden rise in productivity.
Hey, I worked with one of those. She finally retired and we were finally able to get sh!t done
Load More Replies...im sorry but how do you not notice someone died??? like did no one call for him for four days??? no family coming in like hey x hasnt been home???? i need more backstory
at least it was only 4 days - bloat and such will have likely kicked in, and some blood/foam may have leaked from the mouth etc, but otherwise I've seen much worse - cases where a persons body hasn't been found for over a month and that's when you start to liquify. You can only imagine the smell, and the mess. I feel for the cleanup crews after bodies being found like that, sometimes whole walls and floors need to be knocked out and replaced because the decomp liquid just seeps in.
In fact, this happened in our company. Our colleague was divorced and used to spend long time meditating about scientific heaven (we are research institute) alone in his office. The cleaner knew his habits and did not enter the room when she saw him sitting in his chair. So other people revealed he is dead after few days...
Holy c**p that's just crazy. They couldn't smell him? That's one smell you NEVER forget
Perhaps in the right conditions, like a dry, air-conditioned, closed room, the smell was not so noticeable after only a few days.

Ex Victoria’s Secret employee: we used to have to cut up products that didn’t sell after a certain amount of time and soak them in bleach before throwing them out. And no, employees weren’t allowed to just have them.
I have to say, back when I worked for them they actually did treat their employees very well. Benefits and PTO, even for some part time employees. And we did get tons of free stuff all the time and great discounts. They rly did take care of their employees.
I also used to work for a superior court judge who usually wore pajamas under her robe and occasionally drank at lunch lol
I worked at wawa and was forced to slice and dump the leftover milk before throwing in the dunpster "so homeless people couldn't steal it"

I bought some nice t-shirts from an expesive brand for a out 30% of its actual price. They like stick a piece of cloth on the interior brand and sold them cheap, so they don't waste them. Can't remember the brand.
Load More Replies...I wouldn’t feel so bad about the cutting up of unsold inventory if a) they recycled the cloth and b) they produced an entire line of items—-maybe from the recycled materials—-specifically to be donated to homeless shelters. Fat chance, I know, but it would be a really good PR move if they actually followed through with it.
Rampant waste in virtually every industry. This is why our species is doomed...
Donate them to your local women's and children's shelter. Some of those women arrive at the shelter with nothing but the clothes they're wearing.
My daughter worked for Sally's and they did similar-cut cords of appliances before tossing etc .. She'd still grabbed them cuz her dad knew how to weld (?) It back together.
Given that they are one of the brands that require the clothing to be offered to employees at a discount before being thrown, that they ignored that part is something that should be reported as it is against company rules. Here they are sometimes sent to outlets, or the tags removed before donation.
Bakery.
The French bread and Italian bread are the EXACT same thing with different scoring designs on top - but one is two dollars and fifty cents more.
And let me tell you: there IS a difference! French baguettes, are more 'chewy' than Italian pane. Both have their merits 😍, though
Load More Replies...I think the point is that was what was happening at the bakery they worked at.
Load More Replies...I disagree, I like them both but I find French is lighter in taste and Italian bread is more dense
French and Italians should work together to create Garlic Baguettes, like that would taste SO GOOD.
I eat that so often! It's called garlic bread baguettes and I always have them with pizza!
Load More Replies...maybe at your bakery, but it depends on what type of French Bread (baguette, fougasse, pain brie, faluche..?) or what type of Italian Bread (focaccia, ciabatta, pane pugliese..?) Filone and Baguette are similar but to say each italian and french bread is the same is just ignorance.
Not in my market. They're shaped differently and have completely different crusts and crumbs.
from many years ago when i worked at mcdonald's:
the ice cream machine isn't raggedy and always broken. at some point it has to go into cleaning mode, each day i think, and this takes 4-5 hours. so when they tell you its down or broken, the machine is probably just sanitizing itself. i don't know that the stores can program them to do this at a certain time of day.
when people in the drive through ask for their fries to be cooked fresh and they don't mind waiting, a lot of times workers will take food that had already been sitting out, and re-drop it into the grease for like 15 seconds so they come out piping hot & shiny again. (this mostly happens on late/overnight shifts)
The thing with the ice cream machine is true, at least in this country ime. You're more likely to hear it at a 24h place - ours was on a set cycle at 5am every day.
That makes perfect sense since most people don't want ice cream at 5am :)
Load More Replies...I am no picky eater when it comes to fast food, and I hate to make additional difficulties for the workers, but: If you aks for your fries without salt (you can always cite an allergy), then most places will make your batch fresh. But be prepared for really angry stares when you then take six or seven packets of salt of the counter...
I worked at a McDonalds in the 80's and was a closer. Every night we had to break down the machine and clean it. Sounds like technology took it a step backwards.
I'm fine with fries reheated that way. The best fry joints cook their fries halfway and leave them sit. They put them back in the fryer for 1-2 minutes to finish cooking when you place your order.
McDonald's fries are horrible, soft and soggy, even when they are cooked fresh. Al least in my country. It's frozen potatoes and very low quality, re-heated oil, so they can't taste like the real thing. It's true that restaurants fry the potatoes halfway and finish frying them when you order, but good restaurants use quality products, unlike MacDonald's.
Load More Replies...Yeah i watched MatPats video about why the employees always say the machine is broken
I worked pizza delivery for a major corporate pizza brand. The quality of the ingredients used even over 15 years ago is of such poor quality that the heat from the pizza over is the only reason you're not going to the hospital due to heat killing the bacteria. When I went to a popular local shop. You could eat off the floor it was so clean. THAT place was amazing.
As someone who is frequently in restaurant kitchens almost all chains are that bad. Stick with fast food or owner ran place.
As someone that used to repair/install fast food equipment, never eat fast food. Once I had to do some work on a buffet line in a popular chain, upon opening the buffet cabinet, the base was full of cockroaches. And not just a few, I'm talking hundreds.
Load More Replies...Just because they are "bad quality ingredients" it doesn't mean they will, kill you unless of course the leave cheese or other perishable food out of the fridge for to long.
Bacteria don't make you sick, bacteria waste does, and heat doesn't break down the toxins in some cases.
Their comment to the effect was "it's the name of the food repeated twice". So likely the Canadian brand Pizza Pizza.
Load More Replies...I am jinxed. I used to teach a food safety certification to restaurant managers and somehow restaurants know this and like to play “Guess that food borne illness” with me, it’s like they know. For those who say that independent places do better- there really is no reason to think this. There are crappy chains and good chains. There are crappy independents and good independents. Whether or not people get sick depends on training and the lack thereof, proper managerial oversight of procedures and equipment, etc. And oh, me getting salmonella? A friend's cooking. Me getting E. coli? That was one of those independents. Me getting staph? Independent. Me getting Clostridium perfringens? Buffet line at the Tropicana. Another buffet at the Suncoast, Las Vegas, got 80% of our group sick with a mystery bug, maybe campylobacter, and another independent got 3 of us sick with something similar to that. So - yeah- all over the place.
Thank you! Enterics epidemiologist here. People have been sold this idea that mom and pop is always better when in fact food safety varies on the qualities and culture of the particular location or chain. Same goes for grocery stores, produce distributors, farmer’s markets stands, etc, etc, etc.
Load More Replies...This is why I only buy pizza from places that are independent, usually
I doubt you could actually eat off the floor unless nobody walked on it and customers levitated when they came in
Twice I got sick after eating at a Pizzeria Uno in Oakland. (Yes, after the second time, I never went back.) Years later was chatting with a chef whose restaurant had just taken over the space and I told him about it. His response was that he was entirely unsurprised, as it it had taken them *three weeks* to clean the kitchen when they moved in. [shudder]
My wife used to work in back at a very popular restaurant chain. She told me about what went on back there. Nearly everyday two of the workers got into a fist fight. Right on top of the food. So it got sweat, spit, blood, & snot on it. If it landed on the floor, it was scooped up, & made nice looking back on the plate. It was then served without anybody knowing any better.
A good portion of charter schools are one medium size repair away from bankruptcy. Many are mismanaged and misuse funds, and require teachers to spend even more than their district counterparts.
What's a charter school (apart from a school that has a charter, whatever that is)?
And their performance is worse than public schools, which isn't a very high bar. Just another scam to take taxpayer money.
Teachers are not paid enough. They should not spend their own money on school supplies or anything else. That encourages the bureaucracy to skimp even more. If every teacher at a school refused to spend even one penny of their own money on supplies. Things would change fast once kids and parents started complaining. I also don't think children should be going door to door soliciting for donations for anything school-related. Parents have their own school expenses to deal with and non-parents shouldn't have to support other's. That's what school taxes are for.
At one charter school in our town, it was discovered that the principal was stealing the money withheld from the teachers paychecks for state and federal taxes.
Our older public schools in NEPA are so badly maintained it's surprising the kids & staff have not had major health issues. The Scranton School District had school board people arrested for not fixing the problems within a certain time period. Mold, asbestos, & lead are still a serious issue.
Yeah we sent out kids to a charter school for a couple years only to find out when one needed help that they didn't have the resources to help him even a little, they used the excuse that schools don't do that until 2nd grade. We switched to the state school less than a mile away and they gave him all kinds of help.
I went to one for a year and they never helped with bullying their teachers were horrible to me and others.
You're telling me a for profit school might have profit be it's highest priority not education, and just act like education is important to get more profit? Also public schools the teachers are typically part of a teacher's union while charter schools never have union teachers as a way for anti union politicians to hurt the teachers union because as you know teachers are greedy and way overpaid, jk
My old boss takes cash so he doesn’t have to declare the money and I mean thousands of pounds. He claimed furlough off the government even though everyone was in the office working. He broke every covid rule going which was damaging when their were only 20 people on site. I reported him for all of the above but nobody cares.
After more than 50 years in the workplace, I can assure you that every single business owner I worked for skimmed the cash off the top in order to avoid taxes. Between millions of tax cheats and federal government waste (looking at you, Pentagon) it shouldn't be a surprise that there isn't enough money to actually take care of citizens.
My daughter worked at a job that the owner accused employees of stealing from the cash register and stole all the tip money from them to "make up for it." Yet another reason why tipping is terrible. Yes I know what they did is illegal but anyone in a job like that isn't in the best position to get people to give a s**t and I did tell her to report it but she was an adult at that point and I think chose to quit instead and never reported it.
I walked in on a coworker taking underwear selfies in the restroom to send to a girlfriend or something. He forgot to lock the door. He was very embarrassed. I acted like it never happened.
I never would have expected him to wear little yellow bikinis.
Be a bro and take the photos for him. Let him pose and strut his stuff
Our unit secretary walked into the locker room & found one of the housekeepers giving one of the male housekeepers a little something. Word of the incident spread quickly. The act itself wasn't the factor. It was that we all had assumed the male housekeeper was gay & now we knew otherwise.

He wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini that gave us all nightmares for weeks
From the bookstore: We tear covers off magazines and paperback books in order to get money for them and then chuck the books in the recycling bin, coverless.
Books that don't sell in 90 days are returned and the store will likely never sell it again unless it is special ordered. The system is designed to churn out best sellers and classics and nothing more.
Speaking of bestsellers, authors can just buy themselves onto the bestseller list and get their book on a front shelf with prime real estate. This usually costs about $250,000 although you can pay more if you want it to be #1. It is why books that are just printed will have a sticker or designed with a cover that says #1 bestseller. They knew it would be a #1 bestseller because they paid for it. Publishers can also pay to have their books put on the various tables in the store.
Stripped books are recycled - they won't be accepted by recycling companies if they have covers because the binding of mass market paperbacks (the only books that are stripped) cannot be recycled.
That may be true (I work in a second hand books store and we had a recycler who just paid by weight for books) but it's done because the retailer has to send the covers to the publisher to prove they were unsold . It would be far too bulky (and expensive) to send the entire books back and the publisher doesn't want boxes of unsold product. If you see a book stripped of its cover being sold the publisher (and author and everyone else involved) isn't getting any money from that.
Load More Replies...Used to be a disclaimer in some books: "If you purchased this book without a cover this book has been reported destroyed and the publisher/author has not received any money for it". A lot of older books have this on the inside cover, and you can still find (coverless) in thrift stores occasionally.
This is why the paperbacks of the older days say "DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK WITHOUT A COVER"
Don’t they still do that? Or maybe I’m just remembering the older books I have in my house
Load More Replies...Stripping the front cover has been the system for over 50 years. The publisher doesn't want the book back if it doesn't sell, the cover is enough for them.
that bestseller explanation makes lots of sense, I always wondered about the sticker ....
yeah I worked at a department store about 30 years ago and we did this with the books/magazines. The covers were sent back to the publisher, and the books themselves went into the recycling compactor. We rarely ordered books, they were mostly just sent to us in bulk automatically.
Yes, at my very first job at a drug store, I had to do the same and was shocked that I had to throw away all those perfectly good books, especially as a fervent reader! The covers being torn off was a directive of the supplier of the books. (Edit to add also over 30 yrs ago)
Load More Replies...My uncle was a regional area manager of a now defunct newsagents and stationery supplier. All us kids got all sorts of comics and factual books. They were all sale or return items that had the front page torn off. I would never have known about Mad Comic and other American spooky, weird and wonderful, sci-fi comics. We also got all the Ripley’s Believe it or Not and Guinness World Records books from him, without the cover of course.
at least they get recycled, but this still makes me sad to see books being destroyed
Not sure if it’s that crazy but at the place I work at now, every single close doesn’t have a single adult scheduled. I am always the oldest on shift and I just turned 17. They basically only employ teens. The policy for breaks also violates labor laws.
The town I grew up in actually has a small, successful place food shack type place, that is staffed primarily by high school kids, with some young college kids to help when the high school kids are at school and the place is open. However, the workers tend to like working there, even though the only interior is the kitchen, which is a tiny shack-like structure, and bathrooms, with the rest of it being open air. It also always gets A ratings on health code inspections. They have good food too.
I feel like it'd still be worth having at least one *genuine* adult on hand in case something unexpected happens. But I guess times are tough and profits rule.
Load More Replies...What place? A fast food place or chain restaurant ? The office manager who was married to a male doctor at the same practice was also hooking up with the female patient care supervisor

Anytime a food item that was on our menu being advertised as "NEW RECIPE" just meant the owners found a cheaper version of it from a new distributor.
Doesn't surprise me. I've lost count of the number of times 'new recipe' on a supermarket product has meant that I stop buying it because it now tastes awful
Sometimes it's not cos it's cheaper, it's because the FDA (or your countries equivalent) banned an ingredient and they had to change it too.

So as someone who works/worked in a tax law firm in the holy grail country of bureaucracy (Germany), I can gladly tell you: Many rich people/companies are just rich bc they can afford us to twist the numbers just the right way (aka. we might be helping certain people to commit tax evasion/fraud). We also had a car dealer, who pulled so many black market deals and other illegal stuff and we still had to fake his numbers/books against our morals (so the Finanzamt wouldn't find out)...
The sad thing is many smaller companies had to quit during Covid (or even afterwards and before that) just bc they couldn't afford someone who knew the in-and-outs of our bureaucratic system (aka. how to file for financial aid from the state), while the bigger ones used those aids to do ~~not so necessary~~ renovations (which they could file as "expenses")...
It's a really s****y system (the bureaucracy stuff in every aspect of the country) and those on top will always benefit from it or know the loopholes, while the more unfortunate ones aren't able to help themselves...
If it's within the tax code it's legal. If they were operating outside the code and obfuscating it, then it's illegal and unethical. If they were doing it at the behest of the client, it then becomes conspiracy to commit fraud.
Oftentimes even “within the code” isn’t ethical…just think back to Romney (“I got binders full of women”) who, along with a lot of lawmakers, made and tailored many of those laws which help the plutocrats. Not that all democrat lawmakers are immune, but at least they try to be more “gasp—socialist!” Much of what they get away with…yes…used to be illegal until the Fat Cats got together and manipulated the rules enough #whyimaliberal
Load More Replies...There's a difference between a legal loophole and straight up fraud. Based on this description "helping certain people to commit tax evasion/fraud" this is illegal. It's not a bureaucratic loophole. Stop helping people break the law. You're just as culpable as they are in this case.
This kind of c**p happens in the us all the time. During covid they gave big companies a PPA? I think it was called and now the same damn companies can get $26000 for employees they didn't lay off during covid. I know a lot of companies that are getting this because they lie thru their teeth, and never laid off one person. And people wonder why our taxes keep going up
It's like this because the U.S. helped set it up after WW2. It's simply a reflection of the rampant and flagrant corruption when corporations aren't regulated. Capitalism without regulation is fascism. Your "holy grail" of bureaucracy was inherited from the U.S.
Because Germany has always been a great beacon of law and justice /S. Do you know what Germany was like before and during WWII, Frank? Sheesh.

I was told to never call CPS on a parent because the owner didn't want the "bad press".
Where I am, teachers are mandated reporters. Means that if we suspect abuse/neglect, we are legally (not just morally) obligated to call Child Protective Services. Had a principal that insisted we report to him and then he would make a judgment call as to whether or not to call CPS. Uh, no. I am not risking my license and a child's well being because you want to buddy up to their a-hole parent
A friend of mine who was studying to be teacher had that same rule in writing a month before she started an internship. She reported it and there was another principal when she started

My old boss who we will call Maryellen was only 27 when she started at ACME. She quickly rose in the ranks and by 30 was the HBIC. She had made the company millions, they trusted her implicitly. ACME gave Maryellen a company credit card to pay for various expenses, as well as a stipend to do things for the employees such as a cake for birthday months, company cookouts, employee outings to team build, etc… none of which ever happened. Maryellen would take the stipend and go to a Costco and load up on bread, meat, Mayo, chips, drinks, and make brown bag lunches…..which she would then sell to employees for $5 a bag. You could also buy extra chips or drinks for $2/each. She did this every single week, for almost 15 years. They never caught on, or if they did, they turned the other cheek. She then left the company, moved across the country, retired before 50, and now lives in a mansion, travels the world, and has three luxury vehicles.
If ACME is that dumb, it may soon lose Wile E. Coyote's business. (And he's got to be at least a quarter of their revenue stream.)
If she "made the company millions" , then yea, they likely wouldn't care about her small-time grift with the stipend.
Tbf, she put in a lot of work for those lunches. Shopping, preparing and packaging. Corporate probably knew and didn’t care. As long as she was productive and making them money, it was probably a drop in the bucket anyway.
As I understand it, she was given a stipend to buy treats for staff. She bought food items with company money money and then sold them to the staff.

Worked at a seafood restaurant that was infamous for their house clam chowder. Dude literally bought cans of chowder from the store, poured it into this huge 5 gallon container, and then it sat in there getting pulled from, heated, dumped back in to. S**t never got cleaned or fully replaced, super super super gross. Anything we didn’t use that day would get dumped back in with a couple new cans added.
Infamous doesn’t mean famous… maybe it was infamous for causing a spate of food poisoning cases?
Hm the perpetual stew is one real thing… as long as the temperature does not go below the critical the stew is sane.
Wawa does this with the milkshake machine...just keep pouring new milk over the old milk so there could be months old sour milk churning around in there. Smelled like it, that's for sure
I can almost guarantee it was not SUPPOSED to be like that - in all liklihood, that's simply the level of standard that the one particular store you worked with "rose to." (Meaning: they didnt rise to the proper occasion). After working in US service industries for years, I can confidently say that nothing THAT neglectful would be condoned by anyone officially working at a local and state food-safety level, who's regular examinations are designed to ferret just that sort of problem, out. And, milk is one of the hardest scents to get out if spilled, and even the best run places I've been in were troubled by a lingering scent in their cold areas. Unless one is constantly, every hour, cleaning with hot water and soap (but it's hard to maintain the safe refridgeration levels that way), between maintaining current stock and handling it safely and having employees deep clean during non-buisness hours, sometimes an odor is simply a sign of the regularity of that product being used.

It's me.
Yes, me and that coworker were indeed hooking up.
I don't get why it's frowned upon, not every adult out there has an absolute ton of free time so it's hard to get out and meet people, so why not hit it off with a coworker as long as things are kept professional whilst actually at work?
Lol. This reminds me of the time I threw a Halloween party and then a rumor was going around that I did it with a co-worker at the party. Said co-worker wasn't even at the party. I mean, we were doing it occasionally just not at that party.
If none of you are cheating on somebody else, that is socially accepted. Congrats on your shags.
Had a very popular co-worker who complained all the time about his soon to be ex-wife doing things behind his back. He would not shut up about this affair she had when she was still in training elsewhere. He painted a very rotten picture of his wife yet none of us ever met her. Then one day I ran into somebody I knew back in my training days. I was the shoulder she cried on about her husband cheating on her starting from the day they got married. OMG, this is the evil wife this guy is talking about. She was a wonderful Kentucky country girl. We hung out & never did anything. It hit me. I was that other guy the husband hated so much. So one night at work he was on a roll about his wife. I then confronted him & said he was the "slur" not her. I know this b/c we were just friends & he was problem, not her. Nobody would even look at him after that. After that, he was very open about his promiscuity & downright vulgar attitudes towards women in general.
I did internship at a restaurant kitchen and my boss asked me to slice some mushrooms, but he forgot to tell me to save the stems so I threw them away, then I saw my boss bending over the trash can and he picked out the stems and threw them from the trash can in a pot of soup, then I don’t wanna know what else happened to the food there..
I'm sure 99% of them would make me never want to eat out ever again. (but thankfully in the UK we do have health and safety inspections in restaurants, and it often makes the local news sites etc when somewhere gets a low score, so I most often check the health/hygiene rating of a place before going :P )

Load More Replies...Dropped a poussin from a serving platter, put it in the bin and asked Ian the chef to hold the order whilst I got another from the cold store. He looked at me like I was something nasty stuck to the bottom of his shoe, picked (plucked!) the dropped poussin out of the bin, gave it a wipe, stuck it under the grill to heat it back up, plonked it back on the serving platter and left me to present it to the diner.
When I was young I worked for 2 weeks at a branch of Burger King, franchised, that no longer exists. They redated food at arrival and on a regular shedule so that nothing ever went out of date. They even labeled food that was cooked to make it look within it's non- dangerous to eat' zone. There was one guy guy with a crouch infection who kept scratching his crouch. I saw one of the managers plucking burgers out of the bin, brushing the c**p off them, and putting them back in the meat hopper.(Yeah! In thant kind of sh@thole the problem always starts at the top!) One day I saw a pregnant lady and an old lady turn up at the counter together... and i regret to this day that i just walked out... rather than secretly working with Trading Standards' to shut them down. I wonder if that baby lived? Fact is people pick up a dropped sausage off the dirty, but also 'cleaning chemical', covered floor... and they think they are funny and cool and clever.. but they are SCUM!
i worked in a bistro whose boss regularly fished food out of the trash... took uneaten food and garnishes from one plate and put them on the next. (he was also a raging drug addict and physically and psychologically abusive to his employees, but that's neither here nor there)
I can't imagine any situation in which anyone would decide to throw away mushroom stems, that should be a crime.
The attorney I used to work for would plot with the area chiropractors in order to inflate their medical bills and thereby inflating their asking amounts for their injury cases. Of course his take home was 40% of the total award amount.
My chiropractor practically saved my life after a serious accident. I could /see/ the difference in the x-rays before and after weeks of treatment. Hard to fake x-rays

I got out of the insurance game in 2019; I couldn’t make a living being honest. I am only cash now. It is the insurance companies that are to blame since only catastrophic claims pay the best so every case has to be a ‘near death’ experience or the DC won’t get much compensation.
Most prisons are dangerously understaffed, with many sleeping while on shift. Also, most guards aren't the power hungry people you hear about, they're just there for a paycheck.
there is that escaped murder in Pennsylvania I keep hearing about that escaped the same way another guy did a few months ago. Plus the cop running the search is apparently super inept. Think Farva from super troopers inept.
I believe that. Probably lots of crappy jobs, that crappy human beings do for the wrong reasons, are done by others just for the paycheck. And it's probably the crappy human beings that made the job so unecessarily crappy in the first place!
As someone who was on the other side of the bars, it wasn't true for me. Most of the staff was on a power trip. Most of the staff was hateful to us, and treated us as less than human. There were some that were basically neutral, and a precious few that treated us decently.
Look up "Stanfort-prison-experiment" or watch the movie "the experiment" (ideally the german original) to understand what power does to people. You might not start as a bad person, but still act bad after a while
Yes they're good experiments and are shown to trainee prison officers in England and Wales. The difference being, they were experiments where rules were changed to create the conditions. In prisons, the rules are already there and don't change based on your eye colour!

I used to work at a very popular clothing store and a woman from corporate came in one day and fired the assistant manager. A few months later one of the managers was doing payroll and I noticed the assistant manager, the one that got fired, name was still on payroll. I thought that was very weird. The manager tried to hide it from me but I definitely saw it. A couple of weeks after that, the other manager got fired. Apparently, she still had the assistant manager that got fired on payroll and she was still receiving checks.
Affair partner? Didn't want them to whistleblow something? So many questions
When I took over doing the bookkeeping and payroll when the previous bookkeeper left, I noticed she had put herself on vacation for the next 6 months, guaranteeing herself a paycheck. I showed my manager and that ended that.
ghost employee. I'd bet an investigation will find that the former asst. manager's paychecks are now going to a different bank account than they were originally.
All of the fancy glamping tents at Terramor Outdoor Resort in Bar Harbor, ME are going to fall apart soon. The timber frame tents don't have foundations or pads to sit on, instead each piling is sitting on top of a foam block buried just under the surface. This means that they could declare them temporary structures and cut a bunch of corners to get around plumbing/electrical codes. The foam blocks compress over time and the pilings will start to shift. Some of the tents were already shifting badly when I left in the summer of 2021, not even one year after the resort had opened. But the owners, KOA, don't really care. They're already planning bigger Terramor resorts in a few other states and will likely just abandon the prototype property when it gets too expensive to maintain. Give me 10 more days to start my next job and I'll come back and spill all the tea about Alyeska Ski Resort.
looked that place up and wow $450 a night for a tent.......a tent for 2 people $450 a night
It's entirely upon the customer if they're stupid enough to pay that.

I worked in a superstore bakery department. The bread plant that mixed and shaped all the dough had a horrendous mold problem because idiots wouldn't clean it properly. The practice was to pick chunks of it out as you caught it. Chances are a fair amount passed through undetected, baked, and consumed.
*heaves lunch* thank you for that.... please i think we need to know which bread factory.
I worked in a factory bakery - the precautions taken against nut allergy transfer were so extreme that we all constantly dripped sweat into the food because of all the layers of 'safety' clothing! However - the temps with feet too big for standard issue shoes were all issued protective coverings for their own boots - but some IDIOT manager was trying to save money by RATIONING them instead of stopping the employees from working when they didn't have enough! They were all stomping around with their feet half in torn up blue bags. I did leave this job and did an exit letter to tell them about the problem with the contamination. Never ate a supermarket pastry again.
I ran a daycare for a church (more like a cult) for a few years. The building’s roof was ripped off in a hurricane and the building was flooded.
Behind my back, the church leaders went to a smaller church and arranged our center to be housed there until the building was back up and running. They didn’t tell me that we were uninsured and running outside of state licensing. AND they were insisting parents pay cash to avoid a paper trail. They were also claiming interruption of business on the insurance, and paying the employees cash as well.
It ended up being my responsibility to write receipts (and sign them), so if anything did come out, it would all fall on me. To sum it up, these people were committing fraud, insurance fraud, and going against the states child care policies, as well as having other people’s children under our care with no insurance.
I cut my losses and quit with no two weeks notice, and I’m waiting to hear about the fall out that will inevitably happen. They just got their new building up and running after 2 years of operating this way.
By any chance is this grace community school? I recognize the "cult" church and hurricanes lol
Stuff like this and not wanting to take the blame if someone else screwed up terribly is why I always make sure I have emails and stuff clearly indicating that something wasn't my decision, if it wasn't.
Exactly. I never approved nothing. I always emailed the manager for permission to do any xyz activity that fell out of normal operating procedures.

If I was this person I would figure out where I need to report this because like they said their name is all over it as the fall person. They'll likely still get in trouble, but it could be more lenient if they get ahead of it.
Former principal had an affair with teacher (they were both married). Principal leaves to new school. A year later principal’s wife comes to the school and works along side the teacher her husband had an affair with, without even knowing.
When I was laid off, the production team was one more petty retaliation from unionizing. I hope they did. But almost everyone else in management would rather shutter the factory than have to even acknowledge the production team.
Ya know how the dealership will discount your trade by like $500-1000 if it’s been smoked in? We had a $200 machine that gets the smoke smell completely out of the car. Takes about an hour, but only 5 minutes or so of labor (then leaving it run in the car for the hour). Other than a small amount of electricity, and the initial $200 cost for the machine, it costs the dealer nothing to make it a nonsmoking car.
Ozone machine I expect - gets rid of nicotine and hydrocarbons absorbed into the fabric. Doesn't do a thing for stains and some surfaces, are toxic as heck, and not approved for enclosed spaces. It could still result in asthma from the surfaces that it couldn't penetrate, so by labelling it as non-smoking (which is misadvertising), the company is at a huge liability/getting the company shut down/getting everyone who knows thrown directly into the slammer risk if they try this very much illegal stunt.
Passwords are all the same still and I haven't worked there in almost 8years. I can still log into everything. Fidelity title, mrmls, the managing website they still use, the website where all Of their contacts are. All of it.
Best part is if they ever change a password, they just put the numbers in front instead of at the back.
Fidelity title is f*****g sick to still have access too. I can look up a property, see how many owners it's had, when it sold, who the current owner is now and I can see what other properties they own, if they own multiple. Not good to let people still have access too.
Mrmls is nice too. if the mrmls ever found out that the acc is being shared that person would have their brokers license revoked.
Then there is the zip forms acc I can still log into. This so the most useful. I have direct access to the actual forms used for real estate. It's f*****g wonderful. I've written up several lease agreements for friends and myself. It's so nice having that direct access.
F****n real estate world. Loose as a goose and more money than most other professions. They are just lucky I'm not evil. I could edit their contracts to have my bank info to be used and they wouldn't even know until the money is sent to me lol.
The fact that you can do It, doesn't mean you have to... You no what I mean?
You can get a friend, have them buy a property, alter the contracts the night before they go into sign with terms that are extremely favorable to your friend. Once they get their signed and notarized copy, switch the contract back. Now you and a friend own a property where if you fail to make payments, the title company will cover it for you. /jk
Property records are public unless a law enforcement officer files for an exemption. I’m in the US, not sure where this person is from. You can just Google *insert county* public records and get all of that info. Fidelity just charges a fee to do it for you because it can be time consuming.
I worked in tech sales, and everyone was sleazy. We were a big company and a competitor with Google, Facebook, etc. primarily sold to small business owners. It didn’t matter what you did, how you did it, or who you screwed, as long as you got them to put down their cc. People who were successful there took advantage of anyone, and everyone. Once in training I watched somebody sell almost 10k in commissions by convincing an hourly employee to put down his own personal cc, and then tell him that the business owner would praise him for his ambition to help the business grow. I obviously didn’t last, because I couldn’t do it, but nonetheless I saw some pretty nasty behavior. Also everyone was doing drugs in the bathroom between calls, with literally not a care in the world.

This went on for almost a whole week. We had to revert back to paper logs. They had access to credit card info, guest info, everything. They initially ended up deleting a huge portion of guests info and reservations. That week was hell. The funny part was, the password that was used to secure the database was P@ssword!. Wild.
They should have tried using, 'ThisIsNotThe password!1*' ---> the '1*' makes it uncrackable!
Actually that's an incredibly secure password. A 12 character password containing at least one uppercase character, one number and one symbol would take 34,000 years to brute force using the highest performing tech of today. Increasing the same standard to 14 characters, would take 200 million years. Up it to 17 characters, it's 380 billion years.

Used to be an insurance adjuster years ago.. Usually the goal was to settle for 3x the medical bills. So whatever your medical bills are, likely you’re looking at 3x that for pain and suffering unless you’re a woman or child with visible scarring. Those get more. Attorneys never meant much more, they were all very friendly to us and played the game (so never assume just getting that attorney will mean a higher settlement). I didn’t love that job and paid generous settlements on most of my claims until I could get outta there! Lol
Life insurance agent was forging signatures and attempted to reinstate policies on dead people... three times. Those were awkward calls. Couldn't fire him though because he'd racked up so much debt to the company that firing him would tank the entire agency he worked with.
A married coworker was having an affair with our boss at an old warehouse that I used to work at. Every hour during lunch break I'd notice this female coworker go sneaking into our male bosses office. He put black construction paper over the window so that nobody could see in. One day I went in to his office to ask him something and walked in on them having relations. I also once worked as a secretary for a CEO who had issues. I only knew because I had to remind him every day of his appointments. Bob, don't forget you have anger management @2pm and sex addicts anonymous @3:30.

Used to work for a large corporate company. There was a department supervisor who was in her mid-50s who was married to another department’s manager who was in his late-20s.
There were rumors going around that the husband was getting sexual with one of his employees, it was kind of well-known by everyone and I think the wife had suspicions.
So on his 30th birthday, the husband thought the wife was still away on a business trip so he invited his girlfriend/employee over. The wife shows up unexpectedly during sexy times and the husband freaks out and makes the other woman hide in a closet. The wife is going batshit crazy looking for the woman in her house shouting things like, “WHERE IS SHE? I KNOW SHE’S HERE!” The husband’s denying everything. The wife finally gets to the bedroom, then goes to open the closet door, and sees the naked woman.
The wife asks her, “What the hell are you doing here?” And the other woman responds, “I’m his birthday present, you old b***h!”
This isn't funny at all, it's someone's marriage. And the "you old b****" comment? Young girl, you will grow old too and will maybe then be hoping a 20-something doesn't sleep w your husband just because she can.
If my wife caught me doing that, it would be my very last birthday.
-My former manager at an ice cream stand was arrested for possession/distribution of child porn. -The (married)owner of the first salon I worked in was having an affair with the graphic/web designer. Also, 1/3 of our staff had serious substance abuse issues Both businesses are closed now 🫠
Apparently one of my former employers didn't pay their taxes one year and it took them about 3 more years to resolve it. We were delisted from public stock exchanges for a time and that. The CEO was replaced. It was not a big secret if you just looked at records. But, a lot of people working there didn't know anything about it.
Another employer of mine flat out plagiarized other companies' materials and then resold them. I quit as soon as I figured that one out.
Where I was working the divorced director was hooking up with the married assistant director. The director was being verbally sexually inappropriate with the teachers. One day he put his hands a bit to low on a teacher who finally had enough and reported him. Once she reported him a bunch of other teachers followed. because he had already been warned about his behavior and made to apologize publicly he was fired for it. The assistant director then became principal (was given her own assistant) was then mad at everyone for him not being there and she was a tyrant who treated the teachers so bad she made half of them quit because they just couldn’t do her threats anymore. She ended up falsifying legal documents, embezzling thousands out of the centers credit cards, she stole all the big fancy equipment the place had just bought and blamed it on an office worker who ended up getting fired for it, before it was proved it wasn’t her. She left the center in such a way that legally it shouldn’t have been opened. She was then fired but because the previous director had just been fired less than a year ago they let her get away with everything because they couldn’t do the bad press. Her then assistant became director in a daycare where they didn’t have even half the teachers they needed to keep it open. They tried to force some of the teachers to assume the role of teachers with an assistants pay when they refused those teachers got fired. She was last I heard lashing out at everyone because the director before her neglected to do most of the legal paperwork. Licensing had them under investigation. They had two lawsuits going on. Parents where super unhappy with the care of the place. Last I heard they still had a huge lawsuit in their hands they were trying to pay off. And they were waiting for that to happen to rebrand the place with a new name. From the last coworker I have that still works there I know that they are still short staffed and the last few teachers there are already looking to get out. There was also tons of cheating going on between teachers, parents and therapist when I was there. And that’s just part of the drama I got to witness while working there.
Wow that was a BIG one! I am not reading it but I gave you an UPVOTE for pure stamina!
I (in mgmt) accidentally caught my boss stealing from a fast food restaurant. The person was ringing up sales and applying coupons for weeks, except there were no coupons active at the time. I happened to notice it on a report and mentioned it to the district mgr. Woops, sorry thief, it didn't dawn on me what was happening. Thankfully I wasn't working all of the days this was going down so I wasn't suspected.
Banks make most their money on how much they can tell the government they have on hand via fractional reserve lending. Thus many banks will be slow to clear checks out of your account but fast to authorize transfers in to them. They are trying to maintain what they call the "float" or "Floating Balance" on the banks overall books.
So, the opposite of what many say, where they run expenses before your direct deposit? Or am I misunderstanding this one?
I worked in 7 star hotel. Bar manager who looks over all bar staff was making its own whiskey in the pool disinfection room.
Why making a 5 star rate, when you can bypass it by simply adding a ping-pong table ocuppying the heliport?
Hmm, never heard of 7 stars. Anyone else heard of any with 7 stars?
'Watering down' whisky means cutting expensive stuff with cheap stuff, not actually cutting it down with water. It is quite hard to detect and prove... and MUCH MUCH EASIER than making your own f'kin distillery and bottling process! What a numpty!!

A few years ago I work at a restaurant with a gimmick that offers table top games to play while you wait for your order. The owner felt really shady and would barely pay his employees. Turns out he was shooting up drugs in his office after a friend of mine confirmed seeing band aids and needles on the floor. I wasn’t even surprised when this happened.

Killed by a truck on the highway. My boss asked me to clean up his things. As I was going through his stuff, I came across lots of custom CDs.....full of porn. I spent a few days, thinking about how I was going to tell my boss about this, as they had known each other a long time and were acquainted (not quite friends). I agonized about it and finally decided, I had to rip the band-aid off. I sheepishly went to his office and told him. Non-pulsed, he told me he knew and to get rid of it. Since then at subsequent jobs, during my career, I found it isn't such the outrageous occurrence, as I thought it was.
