I have spoken Spanish for over 50 years, but according to this post I have been using "Qué tal" the wrong way all my life! 🤣

Wouldn't you use "Hola" for "Hello" and "¿Qué tal" for "How are you"? Like "¿Hola, qué tal?".

"S’il vous plait means ‘you’re welcome’ in French"?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I think it’s similar to Dutch ‘alsjeblieft’ - it literally means the same thing, ‘if it please you’, and can be used for both ‘please’ and ‘you’re welcome’, when handing someone a cup of coffee or something. Bit odd that they mentioned this for the Dutch bit and not the French one, really. Edit: I can see how ‘you’re welcome’ doesn’t really fit, it’s more like ‘there you go’.

Namaste does not mean hello. It is a general greeting of respect. It can be used in many different ways even as a goodbye greeting.

Plus it's Namaskar in Hindi. Namaste is technically Sanskrit, although most people say it in regular conversation.

A traditional Nigerian greeting used by the Idoma in Benue State area, Abole translates roughly as “How are you?” or simply “Hello”

I, a speaker of 7 languages, made the mistake of thinking this would be simple. I wanna learn Slovenian now. (And incidentally - I only got the Slovenian question right because it's the same in Croatian!)

Got 16/20. Not good with Hungarian or Czech. I'll admit I guessed on some, especially when it veered into Chinese, Greek, and Hindu.

RUNNING COMMENTARY: #2: also requires flag knowledge - I got it but still, #3: Me: answers you're welcome for 's'il vous plait', highlights 'please' and marks me wrong, says: S’il vous plait means ‘you’re welcome’ in French. #stopped counting: I'm just going to drop this here for the question about 'Nigerian' (from https://www.ethnologue.com/country/NG/), which belong to 8+ [per glottolog, https://glottolog.org/glottolog/language.map.html?country=NG%5D 'language families' - which lump Persian, English & Hindi together, to be clear. This quiz spans 5, possibly six depending on what they mean by 'Nigerian' (Sino-Tibetan, Japonic, Uralic, Indo-European and Turkic, plus possibly Nigerian, I'm not familiar with Nigerian languages).
