Every photographer doing personal work ends up telling a few of his personal stories. This series is very personal as this is something I face every day. I do not cook. Not only I don’t know how to do it but I simply can’t imagine myself in the kitchen especially after a few very messy attempts. I love food but I am unable to concentrate, spend time to make sure it’s good, search for the ingredients that go well together, experiment. But I can go through all of this when working on my photography projects. So since I can not make a culinary piece of art I tried to turn my food into visual art. I used the old masters portraits as inspiration for the lighting. I used selective petroleum jelly strokes on the glass in front of the camera to take away that hyper realistic sharpness and give it a more painterly look. And that’s the reason behind the name of the series “I don’t cook but who cares”.
