Afros Turned Into Flowery Galaxies To Make Black Women Proud Of Their African Heritage

Pierre Jean-Louis, a visual artist from US, creates mesmerizing portraits of black women by transforming their hair into flowery galaxies. By turning their Afros into works of art in his series, “Black Girl Magic,” Pierre wants to let black women know how much he appreciates them for embracing their African heritage.

“A lot of [black women] are brainwashed to not appreciate their natural beauty,” Pierre told Bored Panda. “Especially in 2016.Earlier this year I saw so many black queens who feel comfortable enough and proud to show their African heritage so I decided to start this series to let them know how much I appreciate them and their natural beauty. I just want them to see how we black men see them when they’re rocking their natural hair. We see nothing but #strong #Goddesses & #queens thank you.”

"I want the whole world to know that Mother Nature is actually black (..)" Really? Only black? No other color?

I'm white, and I've always envied this kind of hair - so gorgeous!! These girls are stunning, too. Not sure what the artist meant by, "I want the whole world to know that Mother Nature is actually black (..)" but great work regardless :]

If you change it to 'white' or Caucasian, it would suddenly be racist...

I don't get it. How does hiding a body part make one proud of that body part?

Black women don't need that extra to show that they are the natural beauty. Stunning artwork though!

contrived. photoshop skills not on par. Flowers and stars seem as random as the pretty girl photos on instagram he pasted them on. The story is a little silly, and but could have been communicated a lot better with a dash more effort. If this guy actually took real photos of women in his universe (not plucked from the internet) and actually did a good, edited double exposure. Maybe taking into account the flora from one of the +50 countries in Africa or it's neighbors... instead of hopping on the bandwagon of hipster forests and english garden annuals. These girls were gorgeous before he puts stars and flowers in their hair thanks to good lighting, instagram filters, these elements he had nothing to do with. Instagram is not a stock photo people! Stop yanking other people's photos, tweaking them, and calling it original art.

:) Really beautiful. Though I hope they understand even plenty white people and those of other races adore their gorgeous hair natural. Even without the editing, I find their styles just breathtaking.

I like the series of images. The person is trying to inspire African-American women. I like the creativity of the work. Very positive.

If we're going to do, again and again, the "African heritage" dance, let's go all the way: bone in nose, dish in lip, knife scars on face, sagging bare breasts... This hair would not work in Africa where women are often beasts of burden, carrying stuff on their heads. Want to see beautiful black women demonstrating their African heritage? Lovely work. Hum, why is every one missing the point here? Its about transcending the vast superficiality that exists in this world. A majority of black women use a chemical relaxer to straighten their hair. Either way Afro or straight, I think they look beautiful.

What a c**p! The guy stole somebody's great photos and just made a simple photoshop edit. Do you really call this art? What's more he has to be a stupid d*** if he says "I was amazed to see how so many black women are finally letting go of their insecurities and accept themselves for who they are". It's 21st century man - black women accept themselves for quite a long time now. Did you live in a cave so far? And I believe that Mother Nature has many colours - not only black. It's a stupid history made up for stolen photos with not so impressive photoshop edit.

All you little emological, zitface, porkskin racoons need to stop projecting your ugly a*s feelings on people minding their business. All your dads are child molesters and you wanna take your sexual abuse memories out on these black women who did nothing to you. You need to go find a confession booth without a child molester in it, and get your feelings out somewhere else you little halloween costume ideas. most of you are ugly as hell and fat you look like pandas when you wear black you ratface penguins
