This Unbelievable House In Australia Seems To Float Above The Sea

Using tricks of perspective and elegant modern architecture, the architects behind the Australia F2 Architecture firm have created a floating luxury rental home that appears to hover above the coast of Southern Australia.

The illusion is spoiled from any other approach than the bridge at the entryway, but the building is still no less appealing. From another angle, it becomes clear that the building is built on a pole that lifts it 40m (or about 130 feet) above the slope below it. Once you’ve crossed the bridge to the building itself (and provided you aren’t afraid of heights), you’ll be greeted with a spectacular and commanding view of Fairhaven Beach and the Great Ocean Road below.

The building can be rented for between AUD$440 and 1,220 a night, and it’s not kid- or pet-friendly, so it’s definitely for those looking for a luxurious getaway for two!

Fell in love with this house as a kid, driving past it - amazed to see it's still there!

The original house was falling apart, so the new owners demolished it and rebuilded it (2012) with new materials and glass walls.

I think this article should give credit to architect Frank Dixon who originally designed and built the house in 1978.

I remember when it was first built about 50 years ago. It amazed then and amazes now after a very comprehensive make-over.

Love the design, but finally the house is too close to a road, and too far from the beach :D

Innovative. I wonder how it will weather the sometimes violent South Easter Wind in Cape Town, South Africa.

Cold and unwelcoming. I feel I couldn't ever touch anything for fear of upsetting someone.

What use is it to live this close to the sea and not being able to simply walk on the beach? Still pretty as can be. That is for sure

It's been there for around 40 years. I can remember seeing it at Airey's Inlet when I was hitch-hiking through there in the seventies.

A bit of an inconvenience don't you think? This is more like a holiday getaway than a residence.
