Russian Fisherman Posts Terrifying Creatures Of The Deep Sea On Twitter, And People Want Him To Stop
Russian fisherman Roman Fedortsov's twitter account is flooded with photos of the most bizarre deep-sea creatures ever. The man behind the camera works on a fishing trawler in Murmansk (extreme northwest of Russia) and uses his phone to document the scary creatures that get pulled in the fishing nets. Some argue that the strange fish look like something from a horror movie. However, Fedortsov shows no signs of fear when handling these weird sea animals and even adds some sense of humor to his tweets.
The pictures invoked some controversy and backlash with arguments such as deep sea creatures should be left alone. Many of the deep-sea fishes die because of the change of pressure when brought to the surface, and this raises the question of whether they should be killed just for the sake of a sensational tweet. Plus, after seeing such scary fish for the first time, people are afraid humans would destroy the delicate ecosystem of the mysterious ocean floor beings.

This one is the most amazing one. Looks like a creature from a sci-fi horror show
Crazy s**t, i would watch a whole planet earth series about "The Deep"!
Looking at the nostrils as eyes, and combined with the teeth, AHYUCK
Already cooked,. ready to eat ! Looks quite hot ! Needs Tartar. sauce ! with fresh mint
Okay we had to remove this now make sure you put the ointment that I gave you and refill the prescription and it's going to be a little irritated for a few days now they may come back if they do don't wait for him to get this big again let's get them removed before they you know get too big again okay??? Oh and make sure you take the pills too... If you don't the exit it laid could hatch and then you're really going to have a problem... 😳😳😳😂🤣😂😂🤣🦠🦠🦠
This one has a human-ish face - the eyebrows, the eyes, nose and mouth... so creepy!
Never go to South America for dental work!!! I paid to have all my teeth redone with new veneers and they all fell off!!! I'm so devastated!!! My modeling career is OVER!!!!!
I chose not to comment on any of the photos, because I too agree that these creatures BELONG in the deep, NOT on somebody's table awaiting a photo op. Exploiting and killing innocent animals for the purpose of a photo is WRONG. What's wrong with people these days?
Making fun of dead beings is simply wrong. Even if they were alive, this is not a freak show. We should rather be humble considering in what hostile environments these creatures manage to live.
Load More Replies...I believe he's not fishing these only for pictures purpose but well because they are bycatch caught during deep-sea fishing. I will only add one thing: stop deep sea trawling! https://www.bloomassociation.org/en/
You are entirely right: according to BP's caption, this guy works on a trawler, and these deep sea creatures are a "collateral damage" to this extremely destructive way of fishing. Thanks for the link you mentioned, I'll immediately look it up.
Load More Replies...This really made me skin crawl. Unfortunately even if the fish were put back in the sea, they wouldn't survive due to the change in pressure, hence why most of their eyes have ballooned. Not condoning what is happening though, this type of fishing is so harmful.
I wish the article was a bit more clear about whether or not they were purposefully being brought up or are they just getting caught in the net. If the latter then he really has no control. Idk anything about how pressure affects the fish but it seems as though "just putting them back" isn't going to save them. Real questions need to be asked: Do his nets need to go down that far to get what he is actually trying to fish for? If so, then this seems unavoidable and why not document his findings?
Of course he (or the society he works for) has control. I really believe they are not catch on purpose but the fishing method is "non selective" meaning it's not study to avoid such catch. His nets don't need to go down that far but they don't care because it makes money.

It said (quoting) he photographs "creatures that get pulled in the fishing nets", which means they get in their by mistake, not intentionally! I am pretty sure Fishing boats don't fish for deep sea life- do you ever see these in your local supermarkets? No! So at least he documents them somehow. I am sure by the time they sort their catch these poor things are dead anyways. Might as well show the world all the different species. And unless you're a vegan, don't even start throwing shade at the fishing boat. When was the last time you ate fish? Yeah, exactly!
No one should be blamed. Fishermen do what they do, and these poor guys are just unlucky.
Fishermen are awful anyways. Not only if they catch deep-sea creatures.
Load More Replies...I'm a big environmentalist. I literally work for an nonprofit focus on conservation, but the the internet needs to CALM DOWN! People are so absorbed with social media they crash their car or ignore their loved ones, but they freak out because a FISHERMAN caught some fish and posted it to social media. THE ICE CAPS ARE MELTING! Pick your battles.
you really work in conservation? So do I...and since when do we need to chose a battle? These are two totally different subjects and deep sea habitats destruction is certainly as important as global change. Doesn't mean we can't work against both! By the way...could you also melt your CAPS!
Load More Replies...The majority of these fish are deep sea, and probably died from decompression long before suffocation.
Ugh... gross! I didn't want to click on this post, but its like when you step on somethings squishy, you know its going to be gross.... but you gotta look under your shoe.
If you don't like these fish needlessly dying, don't eat so much seafood. That's that. I think since they were already dead from decompression, the fact he posted the pictures of something 99.9% of us will never have the opportunity to see is great. 🙂
Wow this guy really is making a bunch if tree huggers all but hurt over these photos?
I won't comment on the moral side of the story, because I find it complicated and slightly unclear. So I'll just ask a rather technical question, something that I noticed and that made me curious → I notice some of these sea creatures are kinda covered in some black liquid, what is it? Is it oil? Blood? Part of their bodies?
I sincerely hope these creatures get returned to the seas, be they dead or alive. Alternatively, giving them to an Marine Biologist or Ichthyologist for study purposes Very little of the sea and its inhabitants are known and new discoveries are made all the time.
Very interesting,I know strange fish are often dredged up from the deep ocean. What an amazing set of pictures, educational I'd say "give us more"
I agree that these creatures shouldn't be caught just for the sake of a tweet. These are all beautiful and quite a few of them are very rare
The irony - I have an advert for the Marine Conservation Society in the middle of the page!
I'd love to have the one with the bright green eyes and long tail as a pet
Even if this man or any other just happened to find them in the net, it should be against them fishing so deep in the water. They should set a depth that is allowed to be fished in and all others who fish any deeper should be fined or jailed.
This man is a monster. All of these poor fish, sharks, and creatures have been tortured just for some likes? He should have a lawsuit on his hands over continually fishing for deep sea life forms and subjecting them to all this suffering. This frill shark here is extremely rare and should have been left where is was. You can tell almost all of these poor creatures are dead already in these pictures. If someone doesn't do something to stop this guy the other people will think that this s**t is ok and then our children and their children will never be able to see the wonders of the deep sea. The deep sea covers most of our planet and we humans have already destroyed most of it by pollution and cutting down the rainforests. I am outraged as I'm sure thousands of people are because of what this man did. If anyone should be messing with deep sea life, let it be professionals who won't harm them or who would just observe them through deep sea exploration.
I think people get a burr in their a*s for nything these days. And. I also think that people are just always looking for something to b***h about. This is his job and what he comes accross if you dont like it then dont look. I think its pretty cool to be completely honest. Message to get the sticks out of your a*s and go b***h about something thats actually important 👌👌 k.
its just horrible seeing these creatures dragged up to surface being mutilated by the pressure. typical of humans to go "awww lets tweet his suffering animals cuz my tweet counts are more important." Earth is slowly dying and its too late to stop it. uncontrollable climate changes, tsunami, earthquakes, and etc. is the Earth's way of saying f you. a lot of good people lose their lives to these natural disasters but the Earth doesn't know that. In just 20 years the Earth has changed a lot. imagine how its going to be like in 50! I just hope I'm not here to witness the worst...
oh and when the Earth is done whipping the surface clean of humans, its going to take a selfie and the caption will read something like this "just got done killing all human LOL".
