I've decided not to join this wild melee. I have my own opinions. All I'll say is that sphinx cats should definitely live indoors and they are the only ones which should be dressed in jumpers..

In fairness, the US seems to be in the minority, in my experience, re keeping cats inside. An Aussie friend of mine insists it's the height of animal cruelty to keep a cat restricted indoors. It made her cry in fits of frustration just thinking of them cooped up inside all their lives. My solution - adopt a cat that's afraid of outside. Done and done.

Or adopt two cats. They entertain and cuddle with each other.

This sounds horrible, if necessary. People need to be responsible for their animals. Catching, spaying/neutering feral cats can help. But keep your cats inside, or in a restricted area, like a really high-walled garden. Many people have catteries/cat runs so thier kiities can lay in the sun, eat grass, and play in the fresh air.

You might be correct in that, but as all the cats I have had, in my entire 50+ years, I have never had a kitten from birth. I have always adopted the strays from around my home. I TRY to keep them inside, as I worry about them, but when you have a cat that will pop the dryer vent hose off the coupler that goes outside and then just go through the tube to the outside, you can only do so much.

I had my kittens from 8 weeks old and after they turned 2, they were constantly trying to get outside. Still do; I guess they want to be on the other side of the picture window 😂 And thank you, thank you for your dedication! 🥰

Which is cool if you only have designer cats or indoor breeding /rescue. I rehabilitated strays and ferals in Perth and it was incredibly cruel to keep some of them locked up all day even in a cat enclosure, some preferred indoors in the end anyways. But I respected the ones who needed the grass, or one who HAD to be out in thunderstorms

The whole house told my stupid a*s neighbours to shut the windows when they are out more times than I can count. We live at a main road. Guess which cat got overrun within a year? The road was the only thing that kept a farmers cat population at grandma cat + 3 daughters + recent litter too. Docends of dead cats every year. You wouldn't let a dog roam why do you let cats roam, prey,die?

We don’t have any animals in the UK that see house cats a prey.

Primus,i hate you people who say this. notthat i have a problem with keeping them inside or anything, i just really f*****g hate the people who immediatley see a f*****g cat enjoy their floofy little lives and comment that its borderilne animal abuse. if the cats choose o be outside, then they do that.then again, inside is where the a******s who yell at you all the time because you immediately said no to that when you first got brought to the house(sorry about that luna).

In the United States alone, outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year. They are causing huge biodiversity loss - it's not just birds but also mammals and reptiles. If you consider yourself part of this natural world (which you are), you might want to have a rethink.

Roaming cats have made several species extinct and forced others into tiny remnant populations that may well not survive. They have interbred with the Scottish wildcat to such an extent that no purebred individuals of the species are believed to exist. They cause car accidents and deaths on the road as people swerve to avoid them. Their poops spread disease, there's a good reason why pregnant women are told to avoid cat litter, but evidence of toxoplasmosis infection is found at high levels in society, even among people who have never owned cats. The only way they could have caught it is by contact with cat feces. How is it *not* abuse to have a family pet and then let it run loose to be hit by traffic or attacked by dogs or wild animals?

It's not just taxo. Free - roaming cats are also reservoirs for rabies, batonellosis, FIV and others. Human disease risk aside, cats spread disease to other wildlife. Cats have eeven been implicated in the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease. Outdoor cats, even vaccinated ones, can spread disease. -editted for spelling
