Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity, is evidenced by many everyday things, like the gendered wage gap, pink tax, lack of women in positions of power, and the unmistakable influence of patriarchy penetrating every level of our lives, from households to politics. Whether you’re being mansplained to or fall victim to the career-destroying prerogatives of men, it means that sadly, you’re no stranger to the ways misogynistic society operates.
But luckily there are many bright women and men out there who are not willing to put up with the sexist BS they witness or experience firsthand day to day. And out of the frustration, hilarious, spot-on, merciless, and witty comebacks are born to target any misogynistic remark.
Scroll down to read through the most entertaining comebacks below that will remind us we don’t have to stay silent when someone is being a jerk.

Some Words From Maisie Williams
Misogyny functions as an ideology or belief system that has accompanied patriarchal or male-dominated societies and continues to place women in subordinate positions with limited access to power and decision making. But thankfully, in present times, it’s not being taken lightly anymore as more and more women and men are willing to step up and challenge this ancient and inherently harmful belief.

She's Not Wrong
Personally... Marriage Means Nothing To Me
But although the term has been all over the media in the past 5 years, its real meaning is still widely confused. Kate Manne, a Cornell philosophy professor and the author of “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny” argues that misogyny is really not about male hostility or hatred towards women, as it’s commonly assumed. Instead, it’s about controlling and punishing women who challenge male dominance.

It's Called Consent
Physical Respect Is A Right
In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”
And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

When Autocorrect Only Recognizes Male Achievements
This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.
According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

They Are Probably Not Funny, Just A Terrible Person
The closest I've ever heard is alluding to it - as in "Going to jail? Dont drop the soap in the shower!" Not funny, but it's the only example I can think of (and covers the double standard of male rape, so I'm not sure it counts for this list)
Load More Replies...Usually it starts with a man calling a woman 'rape-able' as if that is a) an acceptable thing to say, and b) a compliment. Then someone calls him on it, and he claims "ItS JuST a JokE, FeMinIsTs aRe So OverSeNsiTiVE."
When people say that 'its just a joke you're overreacting/being sensitive' it makes me SO MAD
It's just a prank bro, the camera's right there! We're just filming a funny video for YouTube! *cut to footage of the 1986 chernobyl nuclear disaster*
I've never understood that one. English is my first language and I like to think I'm usually quick to catch on to a joke, but I just don't get this one.
I heard several about men "accidentally" puting their d**k in the ass instead the vagina for example
Or took off the condom in the middle of it without permission hoping the woman won't notice until it's too late or at all
Literally jokes about rape. Like a woman is in a helpless situation, a man takes advantage of it and another man says something witty about how he wished he were in his place. Also there are some about marital rape. I wouldn't quote any of them here because I don't want to perpetuate them.
We have a french "humorist" that told that "joke" in a tv show: "A patient comes to see her doctor for a muscle tear. This one tells her to undress, and "grabs her", "tackles her on the desk", "f*cks her" and "dry in the a**" to show her what a real tear is." That's a rape joke. I hate this guy.
“It’s not rape if you like it”, “women are asking for it”, etc.
99% of women kiss with their eyes closed.. That is why it's so hard to identify a rapist.. -Jimmy Carr
Queens University students got in trouble for stuff like this years back. When the No Means No campaign was new, several student houses put up signs like "No Means More Beer"
The one most common rape jokes in my culture (Russian) is about what to do in a rape situation. The answer is "relax and enjoy it." Cringeworthy!
i'd rather prefer the ones about tripping over the power cord of comrade andropov
There was a limerick I heard years ago: “There one was a woman from Anheuser Who swore no man could surprise her. But Pabst took a chance Found a Schlitz in her pants. And now she is sadder, Budweiser.” Disgusting that someone wrote that and enough people thought it was funny enough to publish! 😡
Geez O-O after reading all of these comments, I'm noticing how many rape jokes I've heard. y'aLL, i Am A cHiLd-
I heard my first Rape Joke in elementary school, and unsurprisingly, didn't understand it. When I did, I was angry. About a lady in the old west who had one bad thing after another happen to her, and she found herself tied naked to a tree. Along came the Lone Ranger, who started undoing his pants, and said to the lady, "Ma'am, this just ain't yore day!" Pardon the horrible retelling, but it's been 40 years since I heard it.
Example: A woman runs into a police station, shouting, 'Help, I got graped!' A policeman says, 'Don't you mean raped?' and the woman replies, 'No, there were a bunch of them!'
A string walks into a bar, the bartender says “we don’t serve your kind”. The string leaves, ties himself up, returns and when the bartender asks “aren’t you the same guy from before” he replies “I’m a frayed knot”. And then he got raped. (Note: this is from Twitter, I didn’t make this up, don’t hurt me)
two men are waiting outside a bar.....no,,,,,nevermind....
genuine joke I've heard: "there would be no rape if women just said no". I was 13 at the time and the joker was 12.
I've been subject to this before when people called me roughly hugging a female friend (I'm gay, btw) a "molestation", and when I called them out on it, they said "Your Mom jokes aren't funny". 1: My Your Mom jokes are usually not inappropriate or vulgar, and whenever they are, it's usually on accident, 2: What makes you think a rape joke is even remotely funny, huh? I'd like a good, long, thorough explanation.
There's nothing more fun than watching the face of a grown man trying to explain a sexist joke. Whenever someone tells a sexist joke, say: "I don't get it" and watch them squirm. :D
There is something called a rape joke? Wow, I don't understand how you can put the two words together.
Can't be rape because women can run faster with skirts up than men with pants down. That's covering two bullshits, râpé and how women should dress.
I never liked Jimmy Carr for this reason; this was a lot of his early material. Hes dropped it all as he got more famous but i never thought it was funny. I though but I'm not a prude, I have a sense of humour, but this just isn't funny it's awful
I worked at a call center and one of the guys would send rape jokes to our whole team. When I politely asked him to either stop, or exclude me from them because I didn't find the jokes funny, he said I was killing his vibe. The team leader, a woman, did nothing.
In the days after the fall of Berlin at the end of World War 2, it was common for Russian soldiers to rape German women. After raping a German woman, a Russian soldier, zipping up his fly, says "In nine months you will have a baby boy. Name him Boris! God bless Mother Russia"! The German woman replies, "In two weeks, you will have a sexually transmitted disease! Name it Syphilis! Heil Hitler!"
How about instead of telling a rape joke with "This girl" or "That chick", you tell it with "my mom" or "My sister"...
I honestly think the closest thing I've ever heard to a rape joke is that one about a rope(yes, rope) walking into a bar.
That's a great way to shut down any sexist / racist / otherwise inappropriate joke. Make the teller explain why it's funny and sit back and watch them sweat.
I have been around for decades, and never even heard of rape jokes, let alone heard one told. Who do you hang out with that is telling rape jokes?
Well, this depends on the context of the joke and who or what they're making fun of. Two comedians started a show called Rape is Real & Everywhere as a way for survivors to share their experiences and to challenge rape culture in a comedic way. They ended up touring across the country with local comedians performing in each city. It was such a powerful show and so emotional. I cried and laughed throughout every single time I was able to go.
Are "rape jokes" a thing? Sorry I didn't know, I am not an english speaker.
Unfortunately, yes. They are funny (only rarely, though) but mostly abhorrent.
No. Some topics should never be 'joked' about. Simple!
Load More Replies...First off. Freedom of speech applies to government. And human decency determines which topics. If you think everything can or should be joked about- you might just lack some of it... And if anyone thinks rape jokes are ok or should be even a joke- you're trash. You're comparing jokes about food chain to an actual rape? Not even close...
There can be funny jokes about ANY topic unless you're just an uptight person that's always looking to be offended!
Marriage And Feminism
As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. At this point, we are still far from this point, but externalizing our discontent is crucial in making things better, hence every debate, whether IRL or online, is a small step towards an equal, respectful society.
A Common Denominator
It reminds me of a joke. A guy goes to the doctor. "What's wrong?" the doctor asks. "I hurt all over my body" he says. "Show me exactly where it hurts" says the doctor. "Here, here, here, here and here". "Well, you should get that finger checked!!" hahaha
Boys Will Be Held Accountable For Their Actions
In the American South people will say "he's just being a good ol' boy!" and somehow that would excuse his heinous crimes. It just meant to me that he's "one of us" versus some evil person with slightly darker skin or who goes to a different church than we all do.

Accusations Ruin A Man's Life
I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

The Link Between Guns, Police And Violence Against Women In America
Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.

Men can't control themselves? My 13 year is old son came home one afternoon and said, "I need new friends, what they did to her was wrong. I will not be a part of that." He was utterly disgusted. Imagine if more boys/men acted this way. After I was raped, my father asked what I was wearing, it was absolutely my fault. I sent him a link to the YouTube video "Tea Consent" which explains consent clearly. Why does it need to be explained?
Yeah, I had a policewoman ask me that. But first, "Are you married?" I answered no, and she treated me as the enemy from then. Later I found out that it was because "Single and divorced women go around looking for sex", meaning I asked for it.
Load More Replies...Interesting, I never considered this. Thinking back, there are a few times WOMEN made this assumption.
What did your son say that about? Thanks for referring to Tea Consent. Didn't know it and keeping it for reference.
My son said one of his friends had sex with a girl, the others hid and filmed it. He was furious. Looking back I wish I did something about it, but not sure what. The tea consent video is awesome, it clarifies the issue
Because male entitlement and privilege and total lack of empathy except when it comes to nut-kicks.
The captain of a small town police force refused to let an officer file a report acknowledging I was assaulted -- despite the hand shaped bruises and a note from the hospital explaining why they were certain I assaulted. As I was getting in my car he mocked my Warriors in Pink stickers. I looked him in the eye, "It is the breast cancer awareness group that got me through breast cancer." Jerk. Even with the report from the hospital and a lengthy report from the National Park Rangers, it was impossible to press charges. Willing to make a fool of myself to get attention, I did get a serious restraining order. He lived far away, we weren't married and didn't live together -- if this was difficult, imagine trying to file a report on your spouse. This was 2013. Important -- if law enforcement asks if you feel safe, be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.

Ok story time!! The other day I was at the post office taping up a box I was going to mail. This dude across the table from me opened his mouth and was like " WOW Duct Tape! That's a man's tape!" With a tone and expression of genuine surprise and admiration that I.... a woman.... was using duct tape.
All fine reminders of why forcing the gender divide to result in socially polar opposites is a BAD idea... That nearly always results in designated "dominant" and "submissive" roles, and a culture that glorifies awful behavior to reinforce that false dichotomy.
"Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity..." No it's not. Misogyny is hatred of, contempt for, aversion to, and/or prejudice against women specifically. It's right there in the word: Miso (from the Greek word "misos", for hatred) + gyny (from the Greek word for women, gune).
What I don’t get is that when guys rape girls, they’re praised and called a player. When girls have sex, even with frickin’ consent, they’re called sluts.

Men DONT respect women and men DO abuse women. Sure it’s not all men, but it’s enough to make any women walking alone fearful of what,or who, could pop out of the shadows and rape them. It’s enough for many young girls to wonder why their mommy is scared of daddy. It’s enough to leave an incredibly big impact on society. Also if you think there’s a “problem” with the fact that women want and deserve equal right then you are very VERY wrong. We do and it is very fair. Women and men that work in the same job deserve the same pay and respect. Also I’m a young teen so the fact that I know this is proof that s**t need to change. Asshole.
