In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”
And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.
According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

We have a french "humorist" that told that "joke" in a tv show: "A patient comes to see her doctor for a muscle tear. This one tells her to undress, and "grabs her", "tackles her on the desk", "f*cks her" and "dry in the a**" to show her what a real tear is." That's a rape joke. I hate this guy.

I heard my first Rape Joke in elementary school, and unsurprisingly, didn't understand it. When I did, I was angry. About a lady in the old west who had one bad thing after another happen to her, and she found herself tied naked to a tree. I've been subject to this before when people called me roughly hugging a female friend (I'm gay, btw) a "molestation", and when I called them out on it, they said "Your Mom jokes aren't funny". 1: My Your Mom jokes are usually not inappropriate or vulgar, and whenever they are, it's usually on accident, 2: What makes you think a rape joke is even remotely funny, huh? I'd like a good, long, thorough explanation.

I worked at a call center and one of the guys would send rape jokes to our whole team. When I politely asked him to either stop, or exclude me from them because I didn't find the jokes funny, he said I was killing his vibe. The team leader, a woman, did nothing.

Well, this depends on the context of the joke and who or what they're making fun of. Two comedians started a show called Rape is Real & Everywhere as a way for survivors to share their experiences and to challenge rape culture in a comedic way. They ended up touring across the country with local comedians performing in each city. It was such a powerful show and so emotional. I cried and laughed throughout every single time I was able to go.

Marriage And Feminism
As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. At this point, we are still far from this point, but externalizing our discontent is crucial in making things better, hence every debate, whether IRL or online, is a small step towards an equal, respectful society.

I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.

To the know it all who made a comment about nurse’s salaries, I use to work in collections for auto loans. A lot of nurses defaulted on their payments. I know this might come as a surprise but people, nurses have other bills to pay, many have children, and many are single mothers. Just because someone is a nurse doesn’t automatically equal wealthy.

Men can't control themselves? My 13 year is old son came home one afternoon and said, "I need new friends, what they did to her was wrong. I will not be a part of that." He was utterly disgusted. Imagine if more boys/men acted this way. After I was raped, my father asked what I was wearing, it was absolutely my fault. I sent him a link to the YouTube video "Tea Consent" which explains consent clearly. Why does it need to be explained?

The captain of a small town police force refused to let an officer file a report acknowledging I was assaulted -- despite the hand shaped bruises and a note from the hospital explaining why they were certain I assaulted. As I was getting in my car he mocked my Warriors in Pink stickers. I looked him in the eye, "It is the breast cancer awareness group that got me through breast cancer." Jerk. Even with the report from the hospital and a lengthy report from the National Park Rangers, it was impossible to press charges. Willing to make a fool of myself to get attention, I did get a serious restraining order. He lived far away, we weren't married and didn't live together -- if this was difficult, imagine trying to file a report on your spouse. This was 2013. Important -- if law enforcement asks if you feel safe, be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.

Ok story time!! The other day I was at the post office taping up a box I was going to mail. This dude across the table from me opened his mouth and was like " WOW Duct Tape! That's a man's tape!" With a tone and expression of genuine surprise and admiration that I.... a woman.... was using duct tape.

All fine reminders of why forcing the gender divide to result in socially polar opposites is a BAD idea... That nearly always results in designated "dominant" and "submissive" roles, and a culture that glorifies awful behavior to reinforce that false dichotomy.

"Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity..." No it's not. Misogyny is hatred of, contempt for, aversion to, and/or prejudice against women specifically. It's right there in the word: Miso (from the Greek word "misos", for hatred) + gyny (from the Greek word for women, gune).

Men DONT respect women and men DO abuse women. Sure it’s not all men, but it’s enough to make any women walking alone fearful of what,or who, could pop out of the shadows and rape them. It’s enough for many young girls to wonder why their mommy is scared of daddy. It’s enough to leave an incredibly big impact on society. Also if you think there’s a “problem” with the fact that women want and deserve equal right then you are very VERY wrong. We do and it is very fair. Women and men that work in the same job deserve the same pay and respect. Also I’m a young teen so the fact that I know this is proof that s**t need to change. Asshole.

Damn you must be a really thick asshole. Feminism is when a person thinks that women and men should be equal. For example, I make $0.75 for every dollar a man earns. Let that sink in. I hear this s**t about "feminists think men are trash" every day, and no, not all men, but SOME MEN. Who do you see when you look up highest net worths? MEN. Who dominates the industry? MEN. hey Laura and Bex, most men don't really care about this one. it's a lot less aggressive in tone than a lot of other posts. And #1 anti sexist person is Andy Murray. Who could disagree with that. (english 3rd language, so i'm probably dumb but that's not related to my spelling)

we have subtitles on tv so we are immersed in english from TV age. It's almost a cheat. English was my 2nd language until i started working in a french environment and even started talking to my dog in french. Poor animal never quite got the hang

*please read in passive aggressive customer service voice* Hi Laura, you are the only one who is complaining about this, and I can assure you there are more than 2 people on this site, meaning that there is certainly not 50% of people telling Bored Panda this. I would love to know where you got his statistic. And, this is not meant to dear down men, only people who are sexist, who can be of any gender. The fact that alot of them are male doesn't mean we shouldn't speak up against sexism. There is a post on this thread, currently #41, which has a quote that explains this wonderfully.
