Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity, is evidenced by many everyday things, like the gendered wage gap, pink tax, lack of women in positions of power, and the unmistakable influence of patriarchy penetrating every level of our lives, from households to politics. Whether you’re being mansplained to or fall victim to the career-destroying prerogatives of men, it means that sadly, you’re no stranger to the ways misogynistic society operates.

But luckily there are many bright women and men out there who are not willing to put up with the sexist BS they witness or experience firsthand day to day. And out of the frustration, hilarious, spot-on, merciless, and witty comebacks are born to target any misogynistic remark.

Scroll down to read through the most entertaining comebacks below that will remind us we don’t have to stay silent when someone is being a jerk.

John Inverdale. He's got previous regarding female athletes. He once described Marion Bartoli as "not much of a looker" after she'd just won Wimbledon.

you are just as wrong as the journalist there. he didn't add 'singles gold medal' and you didn't add 'in open era'. actually you added "EVER" explicitly so you are even more wrong

As of right now Serena Williams has won the most Grand Slam titles of all time during her career, with a total of 23 Grand Slam tournament victories. So what are you going on about?

Margaret Court : 24 singles, 19 doubles, 21 mixed doubles (64 total), Serena : 23 singles, 14 doubles, 2 mixed doubles (39 total, 3rd most ever) So that's what i'm going on about. sure you can make a distinction about 'open era' and 'amateur era' but then you shouldn't use "EVER".

it's nice how facts are downvoted, but the only set of limitations where Serena actually has the record is in SINGLES and OPEN ERA. But with those limitations, Murray is the only 2-time gold medal winner. downvote if you agree

A lot of the WTA players hold Andy Murray in high regard because of situations like this. He corrected a journalist in 2016 after he lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon, the journalist mentioned about it being the first time in a while since an American Player had made the quarters. Male said Murray. Male player. Reminding the journalist of Serena reaching the the quarters whilst a male American hadn't. When Murray said he was going to be in the mixed doubles in 2019, one player Who always played mixed with her brother was quite willing to dump him just to team up with Murray! He ended up playing with Serena.

In fairness to that reporter, Venus and Serena combined to win three DOUBLES tennis gold medals, and each one only one SINGLES tennis medal; the reporter wasn't excluding WOMEN's tennis, but rather DOUBLES tennis. Gigi and Mary Jo Fernandez also have won two doubles tennis gold medals.

No, he as definitely sexist, I remember the exact moment he said the comment, it was 2016 during the Rio Olympics, John Inverdale who has previous 'forgotten' the achievements of female athletes, or belittled them.

    Some Words From Maisie Williams

    Some Words From Maisie Williams

    CheesyChips Report

Misogyny functions as an ideology or belief system that has accompanied patriarchal or male-dominated societies and continues to place women in subordinate positions with limited access to power and decision making. But thankfully, in present times, it’s not being taken lightly anymore as more and more women and men are willing to step up and challenge this ancient and inherently harmful belief.

But although the term has been all over the media in the past 5 years, its real meaning is still widely confused. Kate Manne, a Cornell philosophy professor and the author of “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny” argues that misogyny is really not about male hostility or hatred towards women, as it’s commonly assumed. Instead, it’s about controlling and punishing women who challenge male dominance.

In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”

And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.

According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. At this point, we are still far from this point, but externalizing our discontent is crucial in making things better, hence every debate, whether IRL or online, is a small step towards an equal, respectful society.

I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.
