Fashion and portrait photographer Richard Phibbs believes photographs can change, inspire, and motivate. Since 2012, Phibbs has donated his services to the Humane Society of New York to create portraits of dogs up for adoption to help find them "forever homes". The best of his photographs are featured in a new publication, "Rescue Me" (Aperture, 2016), along with the story of each dog on its journey from often shocking circumstances of abandonment and rejection, through rescue and the joy experienced in the new homes these pictures helped them find.
Phibbs' photographs are far more than dog portraits; they are heartwarming stories for animal lovers all over the world.

That is so heartbreaking. To see such a beautiful dog, expressing so much weariness and sad mistrust makes me want to cry :(

He's so stoked at the idea of a nice loving family, and not being kept in a cage. I wish him all the love in the world

God love it, you can tell hew was abused and put into fights, more than likely..hate seeing any dog without a family to love it. Always said if I came into a lot of $$$ I'd work hard to help these furbabies

Imagine him with a bow tie! True gentleman! Please, good people, give him nice and warm saloon and a big chair next to the fireplace! And comfy blanket! Look at him! He deserves it! I wish I could give it to him...

There is a saying in Russian which talks about animals and translates "We are responsible for those who we have tamed"...Meaning that humanity should be more responsible for animals and just destroy their habitats, make them dependent on us and then just f*****g throw them out like this!
Even though this is a beautiful thing and offer big chances of adoptions to numerous homeless dogs, can you believe that it may cause downsides also? In Bucharest (Romania), a stray dog was adopted after having beautiful photos as these ones made. And after 2 days, the "adopter" returned the dog. Their excuse was: "The dog is not as beautiful as we saw in the photos"... Really, some people are just stupid and they don't deserve to adopt (or buy) any animal!
These dogs look so sad and scared. I wish I could adopt them all and give them a happy life.
really sad that some of these poor pups have an eye missing. Hope all of them find their forever homes and humans.
There are so many people searching for smaller dogs ... There has to be a transportation system to get dogs from one area in the country to another for a family. So many animals are put down just because someone in another area of the country can't afford to have them shipped to their home community.
I hate this sort of post only because I can't adopt them all. They all look so beautiful.
