The recent success of Oscar-winning movie "The Artist" proved that black and white films can still compete with those shot in color, but these days that's more of an exception than the rule. And that's because color has allowed filmmakers to find new ways to tell stories. It 's not just there to look pretty. It can also convey and instill emotions, create distinct atmospheres and even help to progress the plot.

Acknowledging the importance of color, Tweeter @cinemapalettes compiled a list of over 200 color palettes used in memorable scenes from famous movies such as Stanley Kubrick’s "Shining", Alejandro Iñárritu’s "Revenant", Hayao Miyazaki’s "Spirited Away", and George Miller’s "Mad Max" and many more.

Check out @cinemapalettes's Twitter page for a full list. Oh, and if your favorite scene is missing, you can also tweet your requests.

Mad Max was an artistic masterpiece. The sets, costumes, props, and camerawork was stunning.

Just needs a hint of neon red for the city lights that would flash in the background
