A good studio for an artist is a significant place. Creative studios might sometimes look like a pile of rubbish or a mixed-up room, but this is where famous artists' paintings are born!
Look at this assemblage of the greatest artists and their most intimate working places – their studios. I bet you’ve seen many of their works in museums and art history books, but the artist and his studio are often left unseen.
From Salvador Dali’s artist studio full of beautiful women to Pablo Picasso’s decorated hall to David Lynch’s industrial-looking creative space to Francis Bacon’s utter chaos, these photos are intentionally mixed up. You will find both very famous artists and somewhat less popular painters, sculptors, architects, and even their Muses. Some of them are contemporary, but you will also find genius classical masters.
Enjoy the collection!

Claude Monet
Probably taken around 1905-10 Based on his age and the paintings in his studio.

Only thing I have in common with Monet is we are painters past and present and both had our cataracts remove and seam to paint better without them. Win-Seaton...e8e6e7.jpg
Wish I had a Couch like this for my painting of the "Red Couch" Red-Couch-...c4-png.jpg
I purchased a canvas to paint.they sent it to me folded in a box.please, how do i get the creases out.i will be eternally thankful.thank you
Either iron it or stretch it then spray with warm water
Load More Replies...What is amazing about this photo is the extremely balanced tone scale of the paintings!I am familiar with the paintings in color and by this photo I noticed and realized he used the tone scale in such a clever way!!He was a genius and very sharp/sensitive eye artist!! Natasha Metaxa - http://workshops.metaxanatasha.com/workshop-description/
but I think this is not his studio at Giverney, that's not this big and has many windows
This is Monet's studio (now gift shop) created to do very large paintings of his pond gardens. Pulleys and cables can be seen against the wall for raising and lowering the painting. Paris commissioned Monet to do pond paintings in exchange for building the Orangerie Museum in Paris to display them. The paintings have been displayed in the Orangerie when Monet was alive and can be seen there today.
Looks as if Monsieur Monet is checking his mobile phone messages whilst waiting for the paint to dry...
AH Yes..Giverny, gorgeous studio and gardens.. The studio is now a shop with hats and placemats, Tee shirts and books and cards.. I wonder what Monets' response would be to the commercialization of his images.. I think that he would be non-judgmental..
According to Claire LeFevre he would have gone berserk. She talks of the angst he felt about people not displaying his work at the correct height and in the correct aspect.
Load More Replies...Looks like a gallery not a studio! If only I had space like that! But then again he's Monet! I'm known by my family!

It's not this room and not even this house. This was his family living room where all family members played piano (Čiurlionis family had ~9 kids). Most of Mikalojus paintings were actually done in Poland and the ones he made in Lithuania were painted in the guest house a couple of meters from the main family house, but not this one.

Naked beautiful women usually do it for the art world. If he was painting fat biffas that spent most of their eating time in McDonalds he might not be on here.
I love to see the places where art was made. It sometimes makes the pieces more interesting to ponder!
I think you forgot the most spectacular. Carlos Relvas House Studio built in 1875. A portuguese "amatour" photographer. Check it please!! ;)
Often static or distancing, these images fail to bring to life the joy, despair and enthusiasm that must have been palpable in these studios
There is one fabulous studio that is missing which has 14,000 sq.feet and it belongs to a fabulous artist. The best way to view his art and his biography is Google MUSEOBENINI on facebook. You will be so surprised to see what he has accomplished over 60 years .
Wishing this could be published into a book, to hold and feel and enjoy beyond the internet connection. (And yes...as others have noted only 2 women?)
Wishing this was published into a book. (and yes with more women, of course ;)
You start off with Monet and 300 artists later you couldn't find room for Manet, Degas or Renoir. You include Rembrandt, but didn't think Vermeer was worth a visit.
missing several historical female artists: Artemisia Gentileschi, also Judy Chicago, Leonora Carrington, and Dorothy Tanning. Just to name a few
I think I would have been scared to death walking into some of these studios as a subject! LOL!
Bela Czobel and Lucian Freud: the faces of genuineness. Love them!
As a PERFORMING ARTIST, you have reconfirmed the REASON WHY I must have a space in my new domicile to Ddo my work! Thank you!
Missing my favorite Louis Comfort Tiffany and did not see any Mosaicists studios
