Guy Ruins Relationship With Brother After A Prank On His GF Goes Wrong: “She Went For His Throat”
Pranks. You either love them or hate them. But as with many things in life, pranking has its limits. It’s safe to say that playing practical jokes should never cause physical or emotional harm to anyone. The point, after all, is to elicit a good giggle. Not pain.
A 22-year-old guy learned the hard way when the prank he played on his brother’s girlfriend backfired in spectacular fashion. He’d tried to scare her in her sleep but instead ended up being the terrified one when she retaliated in self-defence. The entire situation has escalated to the point where police are involved, the family is feuding, and the girlfriend is considering leaving the relationship. Her boyfriend is caught in the middle and is seeking advice.

Don’t be fooled, a bad prank can land you behind bars
North Idaho Law Group warns that seemingly innocent pranks can leave you with a criminal record. And the courts might not find your practical jokes funny at all. Among the pranks to steer clear of is anything that involves fake kidnapping. “Staging an abduction can result in false reporting charges and create unnecessary panic among witnesses,” cautions the firm.
Tampering with food or drinks can also land you in hot water. You could face a*****t charges for adding substances to food or drinks, even as a joke. And the charges might be more severe if the person you’re pranking ends up getting sick or dying.
Break, vandalize, or deface property as part of a prank at your own peril. If the police are called, you might need to answer in court, pay damages, and face punishment.
It is also illegal to involve emergency response services in your practical jokes. “False 911 calls or ‘swatting’ pranks face serious criminal penalties,” cautions the law group. The same goes for impersonation pranks. Pretending to be law enforcement or other officials is a criminal offense that isn’t taken lightly.
“The line between playful and problematic often comes down to two things: intent and impact,” warns another law firm, Brockton D. Hunter P.A. “You may not have meant to cause harm, but if the other person feels threatened, endangered, or suffers damage to property or reputation, the law might not be on your side.”
The experts stress that criminal law doesn’t care about your sense of humor. It cares about what actually happened and how it affected others. “In some cases, your joke’ might fit the legal definition of a crime—especially if it causes fear, injury, deception, or loss,” reads the firm’s site.
The guy’s brother, too, was playing with legal fire. Unwanted physical contact or scaring people is no joke.
“Jump scares may be a classic, but if someone is injured or emotionally shaken by it (especially if they have a medical condition), the prank could lead to a*****t charges or civil lawsuits.”
Legal experts say the seriousness of the charges often depends on who was affected, how the prank played out, and whether someone was hurt physically, emotionally, or financially. Their advice is to err on the side of caution and don’t play pranks that could harm anyone in any way.
Many agreed that the brother was way out of line, immature at best, creepy at worst

Thanks! Check out the results:
This is a year old. I hope Lola pressed charges on Ian. What he did to Lola is all kinds f**ked up.
I have a sleep disorder. Not sure what hers is, but I get sleep paralysis. Bad. I've learned a TON of coping mechanisms. I cannot hurt a fly. I'm not an aggressive person, love animals, and can't handle to see anything in pain. If someone put on a scary mask of something I had a phobia of and screamed in my face while I was asleep, I would likely k**l them. The BLINDS fear that would grip me and make me defend myself tooth and nail would be impassable, let alone the idea of a man sneaking into my room from a party that likely had alcohol. If I didn't k**l them out of mindless fear trauma, I would assume I was about to be r***d. What an idiot.
If people are unexpectedly threatened like this, they will react impulsive. Sleeping disorder or not. They fight, flight, freeze, fawn, fine or faint.
Load More Replies...This was not a prank. This was either "terrorising a vulnerable woman with the threat of sexual a*****t." or attempted r**e. This woman 100% thought she was being, or about to be r@ped. For someone who has a sleep disorder disability, this has got to be a major fear because it makes her incredibly vulnerable. The fear not only of being attacked, but of losing conciousness while being assaulted, must be horrific. Note, we only have one side of the story, the attacker's. It's likely he did worse than he admitted.
I want to hear from the 1% "harmless fun" crowd.......wtf are you THINKING?!?
Well, there’s something really wrong with Ian, and good for Lola on the run Lola, run decision , get the heck away from the toxic codependency that has grown people screaming and yelling about a “prank” that wasn’t even close to a prank. Terrorizing people is, oddly enough, not funny. Lola made a lucky escape.
"He crossed a line"... 🤷♀️ BP... it's a VERY clear understatement!
Hate to break this to you mate, because you don't appear to be the brightest, but your brother is a complete Tw@t. What he did was a$$ault, touching her, to my mind, makes it possible s3xual a$$ault. His defence of just waking her for midnight is clearly b0ll0cks. While wearing a mask? Seriously? Sorry, maybe wrong, but I would have punched his lights out!
I think Lola was remarkably restrained under the circumstances. Ian was able to walk away, which to be frank, is a pity because he’s clearly very dangerous
Load More Replies...The OP's brother has serious mental health problems. Would anyone reading the above account ever let this man into your home, or indeed anywhere near children? Ian, the younger brother needs two things. First, a wake up call. Lola pressing charges against him would be ideal. Second, psychoanalysis for the remainder of his days. The episode in its entirety portrays an adult in need of help and restraint.
I feel sorry for the aunt. She's grown up with an idiot sister, provided college (and probably a ton of stuff through the childhoods) to the two nephews, and now has just found out that idiot sister has nurtured (and is still protecting) an adult male version of herself, equally morally devoid and histrionic.

22 and doing this dumb stuff. Then calling Mommy to tell on people? There's some serious arrested development going on. He'll find another GF, but he should keep her TF away from his brother
For a 22 year old this Ian creature certainly bawls his eyes out a lot.
Pranks are for stupid children and pathetic little pieces of s**t like your brother. I hope Mommy makes him happy, cos they're going to be together for a long, long time.
when i was in the navyy.. one of the things they have on board was the guys who went to wake up the oncoming watch. people were WARNED with no uncertain terms 'some people wake up extremely violently, if you dont wake them up the way your supose to and they beat the c**p out of you.. its your fault for not wakeing them up properly. (never took more then one incident to learn to follow directions for the wakeups. the fact that his family and specifically his brother didnt pay attention to the warnings is all the fault of the idiot brother. and now he knows how to properly wake up a person who wakes up violently. ;>
It doesn’t sound as if Lola normally wakes violently, it sounds more like the instinctive reaction of anyone waking to find a masked figure standing over them
Load More Replies...Pranks are stupid childish bullying. Grow up and don't do them.
😂people are downvoting the little animated Easter Eggs? That’s…an interesting choice
Load More Replies...The brother is an a-s-s-h-o-l-e of the HIGHEST order. No prank is meant to be enjoyed by the victim. Pranking is just a old boy's excuse for bullying and being a general disappointment to humanity. What a disgusting piece of c**p to knowingly traumatize a sleeping woman, knowing there are other men in the house and she is in a vulnerable situation. With a party going on, no one would have heard if she was being a-s-s-a-u-l-t-e-d. She woke from a dead sleep to a masked man standing over her. In what world would that EVER be considered an acceptable action????
A prank is only funny if everyone, including the target of the prank, laughs. Otherwise, it's just AH behaviour. Brother is a total and complete jerk.
way back when i was in the navy. the guys that did the wakeup round were warned 'waking up some people the wrong way usually ended up with a fist in the face if not worse' it is a known thing, some people wake up REALLY badly if its dont wrong. people who have been abused, in war zones etc. they wake up ready to defend themselfs by striking out. and the guys who did the wake ups were told 'they hit you, means you did it wrong no fault on them' and it usually only took one 'oopsy' to make them follow the clearly given directions. soo to me reading this, the younger brother is a stupid a*s who's family has belived him and his lies till he was finally called out and caught. shame the older brother had to block off mom but if she isnt going to learn herself, its the only way for him to continue and grow
I study Krav Maga. If anyone did this to one of the women in class they'd end up in the hospital, quite possibly with permanent damage. We practice "stress drills" for exactly this purpose - if you can't defend yourself under stress, you can't defend yourself. Krav assumes your attacker is bigger and stronger than you. It's designed for survival. Don't ever mess with a Krav Maga black belt. You will regret it. (most of the women can defend themselves against a much larger, much stronger male - ask me how I know...)
I guess every one of you fvckers who gave this guy sh!t for freezing up have never, NEVER been in a situation where you were so shocked that it startled you to the point of freezing up. I guess every one of you armchair quarterbacks can be fvcking secure in your self-righteous knowledge that when things get so FUBAR'd that us mere mortals can't process what is happening, that you can come in and save the day. Bunch of useless Captain Hindsights who think their sh!t doesn't stink.
I've had nightmares about waking up with a masked man over me. I can't imagine waking to that reality.
His 22 year old brother running to mommy and aunt to get in front of the story should tell you everything you need to know. Other than a 22 year old man felt the need to prank a women sleeping in a room alone. OP is an ahole an an idiot and this overly long entry pissed me off the the entire needlessly long read.
Rereading this story triggered a memory of when my bf came to my dorm house opened the door to my room. Waking me up. When i looked at the door all I saw was from the shoulders down. No head. He saw the pure panic in my face. And called out to me from the door announcing himself. Making sure I realized who it was before entering. He said he'd never seen a look of terror like that. And was scared to come in the room. So I can feel this girls terror. She needs to dump your a##. Sorry but unless you are willing to go nc with your brother he'll pull some other stunt with her. She is not safe as long as your brother is around.
If it had been me he wouldn't have been beaten he would have been shot. You dont come into my room/apt unannounced. Had to tell apt complex when a pest control just walked in my apt to spray didnt announce himself. Or knock. I told them hes lucky I didn't shoot him. I live by myself and have a gun for protection. I hope she pressed the charges. Because he'll do it again.
Ian's a f*cking assh*le. My take is that he's jealous of your relationship and is trying to break you up. Regardless, he a f*cking a*****e and your Mother has no right to chime in.
I think that based on his description of his brother's behavior towards Lola that was jealous of his brother and wanted Lola for himself. Very very immature.
A game is only fun if it's fun for everyone. A prank is only fun for the person pulling it. Prank's are not fun or funny.
He didn't just cross the line. From her point of view she was alone sleeping and got woken up by someone in a mask behaving like a horror movie monster. What else was she supposed to do? OP and his entire family just learned that his brother is a complete awful p***k at best and a creep at worst
The brother did a lot more than "cross a line". It Lola had been my girlfriend, Lola wouldn't have needed to beat on him, I'd have physically dragged him out of the house and done it myself. This was malicious and calculated, and the brother needs to be on a register.
Pranks are only funny to the one doing the pranking. To everyone else, they're bullying behavior.
Either this is a made up story or OP comes from a super dysfunctional family with a capital D! 22? they sound more like 10. Mother is nuts...and aunt isn't much better. OP's girlfriend was smart to cut her losses and run!!! Hopefully OP grows a pair and his brother gets professional help
Indeed? What made you come to that conclusion?
