Belgian Artist Illustrates The Humor And Struggles Of Family Life In Lockdown (30 Pics)
Belgian artist Joeri Christiaen began illustrating daily life in lockdown the day it all started, 6 weeks ago. What began as just one casual drawing has now become part of a late-night routine, which he didn't imagine would last for weeks.
Joeri, an animation writer and director based in Paris, illustrates challenges and unexpected comedy coming from family life in lockdown―from homeschooling young kids to hectic conference calls, dealing with being together 24/7, and trying to find (some) time for yourself.
Even though many people are now in self-isolation, there are a lot of relatable situations we continue to share. Every day Joeri receives messages from friends and strangers telling him they’re looking forward to these daily slices of life because they make them smile, feel touched, or simply a bit less lonely. As many of us are juggling between family life and work in these exceptional circumstances, it’s nice to remember you’re not the only one out there not handling it perfectly or having it all figured out!
As Joeri’s main craft is to create and direct animated films and series (you can find more information about his work on his website or Facebook page), this is now inspiring him to write a new short. To be continued...

Day 23: Making Choices
Reminds me of Smith and Jones, when they were talking about eating the onboard airline food, cos they'd already eaten the passengers!
Day 28: As Ready As I Can Be
Small piece of dark heavy paper and tape (until your order for an actual webcam cover arrives). Also, turn off your microphone and speakers. That way you can vent at them to your heart’s content and they’ll never hear you—-something you can’t do in the office.
Day 33: Learning New Techniques
Day 16: We Used To Walk The Streets
Day 19: Homeschooling
Day 2: At Least We Get To Sleep In
Day 25: Remote Brain
Day 26: We Didn't See That Coming
Hey moms and dads. They grow up and are gone quick. Be sure your family knows they are loved!
Day 41: Need To Remember That
Day 7: So Far So Good
When you are a gamer, see this, and immediately think of Endermen
Day 5: Soooo Many Questions
Day 8: The Switch
This describes so perfectly what it feels like to be a working parent right now. My husband and I are juggling at magical levels, for work and school and home, every single day.
Day 13: The Kids Are Fine
Day 21: Daddy's Glitching
Day 6: Conference Calls
For us it's wrestling breaks with my little boy. Never. Enough. Wrestling.
Day 31: Strange Times
Day 40: Road Tripping
Day 36: Not Getting Tired Of The Constant Hugging Though
Day 38: The Minute Before
Day 3: Lunch Before. Lunch Now
Some people want it to go back to normal, but what if normal is away from family?
Day 24: Jus Resting My Eyelids
Day 11: Taking On Some 'Confinement' Weight? Not Me
Day 12: Never Waste A Ray Of Sunshine
Day 35: Hide And Seek
Day 30: Keeping In Shape
Day 17: It's That Time Again
Hungry kids can become downright feral. So can hungry pets, and hungry husbands. Can’t blame kids or animals, though. However, the husband is a different story. I know his arms and legs aren’t broken, his birth certificate says he’s waaaay over the age of 6, and I have a suspicion he might have mutated and grown opposable thumbs by now, so he can open the fridge and get himself some food if he’s that damn hangrey between meals.
Day 27: Easter Eggs Hunt
Day 39: 3 PM
Day 9: So, Who's Taking Out The Trash?
Day 22: Discovering New Places
Beautiful artwork. I really love the style. AND THEY´RE FUNNY, TOO!!!
Most of these were too small for me to read but the one's I could read were very relatable.
