Some packaging designs are so evil, even Satan himself couldn't have created them. No, the sinister creations Bored Panda has featured in this list came from places far more darker than Hell. Corporate greed. From printing misleading captions to hiding the (lack of) contents of their products, the a**hole companies behind these deceptions are so shameless, they deserve all the shaming they can get. Biggest Letdown I’ve Had In A While To Be Honest
I looked at the original Reddit post and the list for 150 Pieces was: 75 markers, 59 color-in stickers, 15 activity sheets and 1 bucket.
Load More Replies...The package is misleading. Each pen has, like, at least 5 pieces, so it shoud say 400+ pieces
is it me, or are there more than one of a single color in there? >:( I also read the fine print that said "Contents and colors may vary"
Also, there are quite a lot of repeat colors in the amount included...so that's another disappointment.
This isn't how it really is. I've bought those marker boxes before. That cardboard thing in the middle is fake. Mine was solid with markers and no duplicate colors.
Are You Kidding Me
And their worst punishment would be that they can never eat pizza again. 😈
Load More Replies...I guess they thought we'd want to share with someone who doesn't like pepperoni.
This would work in my house. My son likes meat, and I like cheese pizza.
Load More Replies...Doing The Lords Work
C'mon people. This issue has been resolved long ago. If they put more chips, the package would be bigger, and with more air. The air is there to cushion the product during transport.
Right?! I'm so sick of people bitching about the air that happens in a package.
Load More Replies...They are packages by weight NOT by volume. If you weigh the contents they will weigh what the package says. The bag is bigger and the air is there to help prevent crushing during shipping. One would have thought everyone knew this by now.
Just so long as the amount of chips in the bag match the amount of grams written on the bag, I'm good. The extra air keeps them from breaking so easily.
exposed what exactly? The air put in there to stop the chips from being crushed? The chip amount is written right on the front of the bag in weight.
why is this still something people b***h over. everyone KNOWS by now chips and things are packaged like that. this is tedious and tiresome
Im Sad, This Is Just Sad
This definitely shouldn't be legal if they appear to be equally deep on the outside
it says on the package how many cookies are in it. therefore, if that number matches the actual amount, it's legal. and tbh perfectly fair
Load More Replies...Product fraud actually. I do not think this is legal if not clearly visible from the outside.
As long as the food inside matches the given weight on the packaging, it's perfectly legal.
Load More Replies...I always wonder how such companies keep making profit. Almost no one would buy this for a second time.
Did all the "truth in advertising" laws just suddenly become obsolete? WTF is up with this false advertising b******t?
I think this is for those people who only like the muffin tops (like my fiancée 😂 I eat the bottom half), but I could be wrong.
This Should Be Punishable By Law
In most western countries that IS punishable by law. Not least in the US.
Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed it. :D
Load More Replies...they probably all have the same weight and programmed the machines on it... plus all the same container size... all to save time for changes between different products and money in production
Spices are sold by weight, not volume. If you emptied out that container and it still weighed the amount listed on the label - you got what you paid for. It's kind of like potato chips. Yeah, flipping the bag isn't going to make a difference. It's still sold by weight. They pump that much air into them so at least SOME of the chips aren't crushed when you open the bag.
There Is A Special Place In Hell For Asshole Cookie Designers
Note to self: Never read Bored Panda comments in the library! I really cant't stifle my laugh.
I have eaten these cookies! They are not like this... The Machine was clogged or sth.
Since they do have the concave shape were the marmalade should be, could it be that in this case the machine got clogged or ran out of filling? I don't know the brand so I have never seen them before, but they look as if they were actually intended to be more filled. I mean, in the process there must be a specific machine to press that cavity down, if they didn't intend to filll them in the first place wouldn't it be unnecessary? Most of the pics in the article are with no doubt cases of fraud, but in this case I'm more prone to think that something went wrong during production.
Save The Extra Plastic And Just Make A Smaller Bottle Please
They never mentioned what kind of pollution
Load More Replies...Disgusting. Anything that uses more plastic to pack something than is absolutely necessary is just awful. Arggh, this is making me so mad! Who are these people?!
But if it was a smaller bottle, they couldn't get all the pretty graphics on the labels. LOL!!!!
But then they couldn't charge you as much. Because NO ONE seems to understand what .05 oz means (learn some math)
I’ve Been Bamboozled
...that will end up filling our landfills and oceans.... and ultimately in our stomachs.
Load More Replies...Hmmm, what could I hide there? e4da7216-c...c0be92.jpg
Oh, a ton of skin creams do this. That and deodorant, the actual stick only fills about half the container if that on most brands.
With deodorants, the container is a size and shape that is easy to hold in your hand. But no excuse to fill it halfway.
Load More Replies...Tea Came In A Pack Of 4, Faced Forwards
Only thing is they are putting the weight amount of the front, albeit it is deceitful by appearance.
Bigger Bottle, Less Tablets
Oh I've taken this c**p, it tastes TOO much like strawberries
Load More Replies...This is why I shop at Walgreen's. They list the prize per ounce or per unit, so you can always easily compare.
This happens more than people think! Many times there will be a double pack with 150 tablets, or you can buy a bottle with 200 tablets for a bit more money. People don't really think about it, but they would be getting 300 tablets in the first pack for less money!
Apparently 27 Is "Approx 40"
Did you count the crums in the bottom of the bag? That might make it total 40 lol
Not THAT much. What if I told you I would give you "approx" $100 for something you owned, then only sent $57? I am sure you would recognize that "approx" DOES have a limit.
Load More Replies...This Roll Of Stickers Is Really Just A Sheet Of 20
So much for "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down."
Load More Replies...Well after all the horrible things I heard about that business, I'm not remotely surprised.
I have to wonder where these people are shopping. While deceptive packaging can happen anywhere, dollar stores, dollar bins (at places like Michael's and Target), and discount places like Big Lots/Ollie's are notorious for this kind of thing because they know customers are looking for a too-good-to-be-true sort of deal. I'm not saying that you can't find good deals at these places sometimes, only that you have to be a shrewd shopper to avoid disappointment. Even then, you sometimes get burned, but that's the risk you take when you do deep discounts. I wouldn't put it past Wal-mart either, but I haven't shopped there in the last 20 years because their business ethics are pure evil, so I can't speak from experience there.
There’s Just Enough To Fit In The Window
these are c**p packaging made to fill hampers. plenty of it's kind if you have ever received, opened one from supermarkets.
This Pen Was Made To "Minimalize" Usage Of Plastic In It
It still is using less plastic then it would be if it was the same thickness all the way through. Not much, but a bit. Still rotten though
Minimalize? Maybe they mean minimize? So they use MORE plastics and less correct spelling.
My Box Of Staples Was More Box Than Staples
Ridiculous, companies should be required by law to clearly state how much of the product there is in the package, no "approximately" something
Actually, they are in many countries. In the European Union you could probably do this packaging, but it would need to show the easily noticable too small number of staples on the outside.
Load More Replies...at least cardboard is recyclable. this is such a shame. all these companies should be blasted for being such wasters and essentially stealing from consumers.
Actually all these posts, are they real? Or is it in certain countries only? So far, i havent encountered such things.
The Part That Is Invisible From Outside Is Empty
Damn these posts are making me want to turn all products that I can see though upside down
It’s making me not want to shop ever again, but since my food comes out of a box, that’s not an option.
Load More Replies...Now that really doesn't make sense considering they normally do well with the amount of product in their bags.
Kobe Beef Package That Hide 1/3 Of The (Missing) Steak
So, did they have to glue the meat to the bottom of the container then ?
Was wondering that too. Apparently both pieces are wrapped in plastic individually and then glued to the box. Just eww anyway
Load More Replies...KOBE beef is one of the highest quality and most expensive types of beef in the world, one steak costing about $200. This costs $55.90
False packaging at its finest and one that could be sued for. The meat doesn't even look real anyway.
And they’re not really kobe. Kobe beef can only be found in Japan and in one restaurant in Macau. They also come with certificates.
Unnecessary packaging should be considered as a crime against nature and humanity and severely punished.
Packaging Said “100% Silk”
If Polyester feels like Silk... who do you think you are to tell it otherwise?! Let Polyester be whatever it feels like to be! Don't crush its dreams!!
Some Leftover Chocolate From Christmas
I had one as a child, but the boot was signposted as a piggy bank
If it's for a kid, I'm sure they would find something to do with it. They have such imaginations.
Load More Replies...I've Been Bamboozled!
If it has "advanced hair series" in the name, I'm guessing so too
Load More Replies...I've had something similar to this where the bottom raised up as you used the product...could that be the case with this maybe?
it is, and it drives me insane when ppl post this type of picture, it's an air pump and the bottom goes up when you use it. Then when people are like 'hmm it seems like I used that up fast' they look at the bottom and say "THERE WAS NEVER ANYTHING IN HERE" No dummy, this is the same as someone eating at a restaurant, finishing their meal, and then getting mad that the food is all gone. https://www.truthinadvertising.org/a-primer-on-slack-fill-e-l-f-cosmetics/
Load More Replies...There is a lot of product in it, this picture was probably taken after she used it, the plastic piece moves up as you use it
Isn't this one of those packages where the bottom raises to make sure you get everything out of the it?
such a wast of plastic!!!! Obviously Dove dose not ` care if we are able to eat seafood in the next 40 years!
Not bamboozled. 3.3 oz is about 6 tablespoons. And it is clearly printed on the front. Sorry.
My 6yo Daughter Spent Her Pocket Money On This, Cried That "It's Not Fair"
That is actually so sad if the little kid spent her pocket money on something and she got SCAMMED:,(
Why would they hide the product inside of the bag? I guess I don't understand the problem with this one.
Also, how much did you pay for it? Most people have a vague idea of how much things cost. If it's much lower than that, investigate further. There's usually a reason why (not as much inside as it appears, cheaply made with substandard ingredients, exploitative business practices, etc.) Sometimes you can get good deals due to things being discontinued, unpopular, overstocked, outmoded, introductory, or close to the expiration date, but you have to approach anything with a significantly lower price tag than similar items and ask yourself "why is this so inexpensive?"
Load More Replies...My mum would of stormed back to that shop and not left until she got a refund, she's like the Italian-British version of Beverly Goldberg.
I Would Like To Thank Suave For Increasing The Size Of Their Bottle By -17%
Have you knotest when there is a sale on a product the new one comes out higher priced with less product? Same with China (dishes) buy sale. And the price goes way up.
How can 15 ounces be a better value than 18 ounces. A lot of companies are being deceptive like this now days. Usually, they just make the box a little smaller, but change the price. They might trim off 1/2 inch of the depth or change the size of the bottle or box, but change the amount inside to fewer amounts without calling attention to it. They did that with tuna several years back. They just leave the price the same so they are making more and you don't realize you are paying more in the end.
To Make This Bucket Of Constructor Set Look Full, They Put A Paper Cone Inside With Some Constructor Pieces Printed On It To Make It Less Noticeable
Unbelievable the lengths these companies go to in order to lie to the customer
Vote with your credit card... don’t shop from that brand again!
Load More Replies...I feel utterly sorry for the parents and children who chose to buy this.
That is the worst one I have seen yet with the paper looking exactly like the object, making you think you are getting more. Horrible
I Want My Other 3/4
Clearly, There Are 3 Salami On The Package But Only 2 Inside
Yeah there is written that there are 2 pieces. Still the cover is misleading and should be taken as false advertising.
More important, Krahulik belongs to the group of companies that has been own by Czech Prime Minister. Their products are almost meatless.
Ano, kam Babiš vkročí tam 100 let tráva neroste :) Takové Kostelecké uzeniny by mohly vyprávět.
Load More Replies...And I bet you both of them would weigh close to, in total, 70g, just like it says on the packet hurrrrrdurrrr. "Kusy v" on the packet is Czech, which translates to "pieces in" , HURRDUUURRRRRR. Perfect example of when stupid doesn't know it's stupid.
Ugh. Those look pretty awful. I think they did you a favor by giving you less.
Good Thing They Put It The Right Side Up On The Shelf
That's the "contents may settle in shipping" clause they use for a CYA move
Oh I’m going to have such fun. I am a retired senior. I’m going to go through stores and turn over packages.
My Disappointment Is Immeasurable
As a Bulgarian myself I feel big shame and the need to apologize big time. Also this candy, though is wildly produced in Bulgaria as well, is more common under the name Turkish Delight. Though, we call it "lokum" :)
Yeah the name *insert country name* delight is just the english version of it. The countries where it's from have an actual name for it (lokum) but that would be too much to remember aight lol @theFoxGuy there are worlds of difference between good and bad lokum. And tons of possible flavours, my personal fav is pomegranate. Try asking locals or finding reputable brands (even if they're pricier) or going to local shops where they let you try it before buying.
Load More Replies...It's disgusting, like chewing perfumed rubber.
Load More Replies...You know this is one case where there's an American equivalent that doesn't do that. At least every time I've gotten that from Liberty orchards it's been a full box.
It's a tourist trap - for this (Turkish delight, called lokum/локум in Bulgarian), you should shop only in the supermarket or grocery store. A small box with the same quantity would cost you maybe 5 times less than these souvenir shop gift boxes!
Lokum? That's also the Danish not-so-pretty word for toilet. Like bog, I guess.
Trying To Hide Their Factory From Ruining Their Claim At Being Home Made
I would assume something in a package like this would be made in a factory. I think the "home made" is supposed to imply that it tastes like home made.
I used to run a pub and in the cash and carry there were a lot of different ready meals. One of the most popular was called 'Home Made'. Buy them - put Home Made Pies etc., 2 totally different meanings
They Knew What They Were Doing. It Was Perfectly Placed In The Box
Wtf?! This is just pathetic. And pretty stupid of them, too; I doubt anyone would buy it for the second time.
exactly what I was going to say, they make some extra profit once but no repeat business
Load More Replies...What person in their right mind would think this is a pizza someone would want. They are just asking for complaints.
My Bad... Assumed I Was Buying A Right And A Left Earbud
The law here states "what would a reasonable person think?" and it's reasonable to think you would be buying earphones in pairs, as we have done historically, so this would not fly over here.
Load More Replies...It’s for when you lose one earphone and need a replacement. Yeah. It’s their story and they’re sticking to it. 😄
OMG, it states earphone and the consumer is suppose to pick up on that.
If the price is too good to be true.....read the packaging carefully.
Load More Replies...if you read the package it clearly says "Earphone". I know it seems deceptive but one thing I've noticed as someone who sells online, people aren't reliable when it comes to reading. For instance, I make jewelry, and sell most of my stud earrings as either single or a pair. Written very very clearly, even in the description. Still, I occasionally get customers who are confused and upset when they get their orders because they thought they were getting a pair. I point out to them where it is written in the title and multiple times in the description. I sell them that way for people with multiple piercings. Once the customers understand they usually just buy the second one. I wish it was easier to communicate, but I don't think I could make things any clearer...
Agreed on people not paying attention, though in this situation it's a bit sketchy when they don't say something useful like "Single Earphone" or "One earphone". It's stupid to alienate some customers when they've got a product that isn't a bad idea. People do loose earphones.
Load More Replies...While exploring the depths of corporate deception with misleading packaging designs, it's intriguing to consider the parallels with creativity found in unexpected places.
A particular example that stands out is the audacious effort some put into creating imitations that border on the hilarious rather than deceitful.
I'm really glad we have laws against misleading advertising and packaging in Germany. Things like this never happened to me in this extent.
The main thing here, I guess none of them are looking for repeat business....
Good Point! One Of Two Hhings Here. Either They Don't Care About Repeat Business, OR They Think You are Stupid, And Never Learn A Lesson. Either Way They Don't Deserve Repeat Business.
Load More Replies...These should be banned by law and it's not just because they are disappointing and robbery. Plastic pollution is serious enough even without tons of packaging to fake the size of some greedy a*****e's product.
Back in the medieval days, bread was so important to the diets of every day people that bakers were given severe consequences for cutting corners. In fact, if you got a dozen buns from a baker, they would throw in an extra one just to prove they weren't trying to swindle the customers, hence the saying "baker's dozen". We need to bring back those kinds of laws for people who try to cheat customers like this.
As long as the product weight or quantity listed on the packaging matches the amount of product inside, all of these package, while being frustrating, are following regulations.
This is just sad. The waster of air, plastic, cardboard, glass, you name it. They just make these rip offs to get more business, more money, and dont even care about how people are wasting their money and getting angered by this injustice. (Do I sound official? 😂)
I'm still mad at Andes mints for this. Although they do say no mints in "protective edges" on the back of the box in super small print, but I think it's just a ploy to give you less mints. UaoH4Ot-5c...f5d3b9.jpg
File all of this under "Caveat Emptor". Let the Buyer Beware. Most countries require truth in packaging for weights and mass of food products. If you do not pay attention, you too can purchase a 3/4 empty bag of crisps or a package of sausages where the package is 1/2 empty. Assume nothing, assume they are trying to trick you into paying for more for less. Stop being lazy and not reading, not using your brain. If these business practices offend you, let th ecomanies involved know. No longer purchase their products. Vote with you rmoney. And teach your kids not to be swindled.
