This Travel Blogger’s Fake Photos Reveal What Most Instagram Celebrities Don’t Want You To Know
In this age of social media and constant sharing, everybody knows that not everything is as it seems.
Carolyn Stritch, a 32-year-old travel blogger from the UK, stunned her 190k followers by revealing that she tricked them to prove a point. “I wanted my fictional narrative to challenge the way I portray myself online and the effects of this portrayal,” Carolyn wrote in her blog post.
“I came up with a story: my FaceApped perfect self, who’s ten years younger than I am, flies off to Disneyland for the day, and somehow manages to photograph herself all alone in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.” So she manipulated two images, captioned them with a fictional narrative, and presented them as real-life. She shared an idyllic light picture of herself in bed announcing about the trip and the next day, she posted a pic in Disneyland, where she stood alone in front of the Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. And people believed.
The blogger explained that Instagram is a place to escape from reality and to show your “perfect self”. “Nobody wants to see me in my pajamas, with my explosive morning hair, hunched over my laptop on the sofa. That’s how I spend most of my days. You want to see my books, my windows, my travel photography, same as I want to see the best bits of your daily lives.”
Even though she believes, that showing your best self is not a bad thing, she thinks that there is a line. “In this project, I crossed that line, went way, way over it so I could work backwards and figure out how far I can reasonably go and still make work that’s both responsible and good.”
“I believe in Instagram as a tool for good.” And what do you think about this project?

A few days ago she stunned her 190k followers by revealing that she tricked them to prove a point
Firstly she shared an image, announcing that she’s going to Disneyland to celebrate her 22nd birthday
A day later, she shared this stunning image of herself all alone in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. And people believed it
Then, a few days later, she revealed that it was all fake and just a project
“I came up with a story: my FaceApped perfect self, who’s ten years younger than I am, flies off to Disneyland for the day, and somehow manages to photograph herself all alone in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle”

Exactly, but you typoed the 7, you meant a 9 I believe, but yes, you are damn right!

In the Netherlands, I know lots of people who stack their books and top it of with plants. Depends how you want to stack your books. It is a "Klimop", an Ivy plant, you won't have to give it much water.

I'm not a big fan of deception, nor do I think much of gullible internet surfers who should be mowing the lawn or doing their homework.

I feel by now that everyone in the world knows that people put up their best pictures, either by using a mixture of different types of light, which is how they uses to make women look good in the old black and white days or by using photoshop. This just is not that shocking.
Excuse me, but where is the story here? That she faceapped her younger face? Wow, so phantastic.
Think she's a plagiarist. Her photo with the coffee cups and books was clearly taken from Kutovakika. No originality here.
Promoting cynicism or promoting reality. Or is it just to encourage people to have reduced expectations.
I really don't get the experiment.... the only thing is that people were pretty amazed at how much she could change herself and portray herself differently on the computer
The project was........whatever. BUT! That last picture with the coffee cup balloons on top of books was awesome :)
This is exactly why I only follow "real" people on Instagram. There's so many of these fakers on there. There's even people making careers out of telling them how to be fake. I think her point is how easy it is to fake it. There are lifestyle bloggers out there who are completely faking it. I'm thinking of one in particular. She's a first time mom yet she doles out advice like she knows it all. Her kid is a toddler yet you never see any photos with toys on the floor. Her house is all white and always completely spotless. People look at their lives and think it's do-able because she seems like an average person. I don't care about celebs doing. It's people like her who really p**s me off because they are always selling something that you can buy and get this perfect life too! Moms are feeling alone and looking for someone to connect to and she makes them feel worse, and she knows she's doing it. Her kid is basically a prop in it all. It's gross.
Yawn. I bet she never looked that good 10 years ago. Money making "project"
I honestly don't get what the point of this "project" is. None of this is new information. Where is the story?
wait social media is mostly fake? I am shocked. Huge revelation? Nope. Only sad thing are the masses that believe every story on social media or the internet.
I don't get it. Everyone exaggerates their happiness on social media, not just celebs. We all touch up our pics.
Really well pulled off. TBH, "“Nobody wants to see me in my pajamas, with my explosive morning hair, hunched over my laptop on the sofa" is dead wrong. The feeling that sentence gives me is of comfort and awesomeness. Much better than someone who's overly done up and cares only about "look at me, look at me". Ugh. I've known a s**t ton of really hot, vapid women. Blech!
Why are all those books set up in the most awkward manner, to make it impossible to read their titles unless completely rearranging the entire flat? That is the most noteworthy thing I found about this entire "piece of news"
