Maike, do you know how insulting that is? To NOT call him a hero? He IS a hero, even if he is also a victim. Don't take that away from him. He risked his life to save others and if that's not heroism to you, then I suggest that you purchase a new dictionary.

More like they shouldn't Need to be heroes. Ideally they should never be put in that situation. But in the real world it does happen. Thank God this world includes kids like him!

Don't trivialize what he did by calling him a victim. Bravery knows no age. Underestimate kids and they will surprise you every time. They are more pure of heart than most "adults" that are full of prejudice and hate.

Suburbs i believe that i understand what you want to say, i guess i am outraged that, it seems to me , these kids are beeing made Heroes. Instead of us protecting them, against such violence, weapons and crimes. It seems to me that it is to easy to declare them glowing Heroes, wich is surely more truely a sacrificing of their youth and safety and innocence... My intension is not to insult, even if i did , it is not done mean spirited, but truely in sadness - and following Anger... Sad beyond all means to comunicate peacefully perhaps. So i hope i set it right if i say , WHY DID HE HAVE TO DO A HEROIC DEED? And how will it effect him, his Friends and Classmates, his Parents and Family, Neighbors, Community andTeachers, future Generations from here on out? Amy Freudigman for sure has an even more valuable Point that we should not lable them, neighter as Victims NOR as Heroes. It is shameful that we failed to protect them and keep them safe. It makes me struggle for words.

True, but it's much easier live life as a hero than a victim. Perhaps if we're more cautious with the labels we're attaching to these kids, we'll make it just a little easier for them to move forward and hopefully past this tragedy.

They WOULDN'T need to be if the Officer standing over this kid and his cops did their jobs. And he of all people advocates for disarming law abiding citizens so they can't protect themselves either.

i would so like to upvote this a million times! Came here to say this, why did he have to have his young Body shredded by Bullets? Who put him in this position? A 15 year old kid guys. What do you think he would have chosen- a day with his friends and video games, a day with his momma and dad, and the rest of his family or beeing shot to pieces, wich will most likely hurt for the rest of his life and that is only the body, do not speak of his soul, do not tell me he is a hero, he is a victim. He safed them yes,but he paid someone elses depts, the depts of all people who think they need their weapons MORE THAN THIS KID NEEDED NOT TO BE SHOT AT. Downvote me if you like. He is not a Hero.
