We live in a world where, whether we like it or not, we run into people with different views of the world, beliefs, and opinions.

Every now and then, we realize that not all of their claims are equally legit. That became especially true in the times of the coronavirus pandemic when anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theory believers were on the rise.

So imagine when someone asked a seemingly simple question “What fact are you just tired of explaining to people?” on Ask Reddit. It hit a soft spot for too many people and you could see that sheer fatigue left by making sure people get their facts straight is a real thing. Below we wrapped up the most interesting responses.

"What Fact Are You Just Tired Of Explaining To People?": 40 Things These People Wish Others Would Finally Understand Stella Liebeck, the woman who won a lawsuit against McDonald's over hot coffee, had every right to sue them. It's been mocked so many times over the past 20 years with people ridiculing this woman and making it out like she's some idiot who was surprised that coffee was actually hot and she was just attempting a money grab or something. In reality, the temperature of the coffee was f*****g ridiculous and there was no reason for it to be hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns on her legs when she spilled it. She had to have multiple skin graft surgeries and spent 8 days in the hospital where she lost 20 pounds. After that, she needed additional care at home and was partially disabled for the next two years. She had no choice but to sue to cover the cost of her surgeries. This happened a long time ago, but to this day, I still overhear people mocking this case or making references to it in jest.

This is a HUGE point to debunk those who thought this was a frivolous case for a quick payday. She did not make a profit here, it was just to recover her losses to medical and missed pay due to her injury alone.

Not to mention that over 700 people had previously made complaints about being burned by the hot coffee.

The most damaging witnesses against McDonaldxs were their own safety experts . They had been warning the corporation for years about the burn danger. But McDonald's management ignored them. Letting a danger continue when you've been given qualified warning about it is the very definition of negligence.

There’s some deep dive information out there in the reports of just what it did to her “private parts” & it’s sickening what horrific pain she went through, along with the many medical procedures.

That whole thing was overdramatized by insurance companies in several states, where they were successful in getting laws passed limiting damages that people could sue for. Saved a lot of money. Corporations doing what they do best, raping the public.

From wikipedia - "On February 27, 1992, Liebeck ordered a 49-cent cup of coffee from the drive-through window of an Albuquerque McDonald's restaurant at 5001 Gibson Boulevard Southeast. Liebeck was in the passenger's seat of a 1989 Ford Probe, which did not have cup holders. Her grandson parked the car so that Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. Liebeck placed the coffee cup between her knees and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap.Liebeck was wearing cotton sweatpants; they absorbed the coffee and held it against her skin, scalding her thighs, buttocks, and groin."

If I remember correctly, the coffee was so hot that it would warp the lid as well, making it easier to spill. McDs had gotten hundreds of complaints about it but they refused to turn down the temp because they didn't want to clean and disinfect the machine more often

I recall reading that the jury came up with 2.7 million because that’s what McDonald’s earned in an average day of coffee sales. Just coffee…they still appealed.

Unfortunately many think that anxiety is "just being scared" and that you can switch it off like a tv when there's a horror movie or something. I wish it was true that it could be switched off. People with this disorder have trouble just getting through the day and need medication. It's sad and I can't imagine what it's like - must be really horrible.

Mind over matter is literally the problem with anxiety. Your mind is overriding reality. Reality says "this is perfectly safe" but your mind says "WTF NO IT'S NOT AAAAAAAH". So I really don't understand how people can use "mind over matter" as some kind of advice there.

The problem is people that are neurotypical really do not - and can not -- understand what it's like. I remember awhile ago on a forum I used to frequent someone was shocked after a new medication started working for them. They posted something along the lines of "is THIS what 'normal' is like? You can just...go DO things?" It was a revelation that neurotypical people can't imagine the pain a "simple" task can bring others bevause they don't feel it. My family was the same, telling me I was lazy, etc, until they see me now at age 46, still the same from back when I was a kid. I've got better coping mechanisms, but I still struggle. My mom finally admitted I was "different", even if she didn't understand.

Apparently this also applies to debilitating physical illnesses, if your doctor is a useless asshat who decides that it's easier to use your mental health issues against you; rather than actually try to figure out why you suddenly can't walk, have complete peripheral numbness, aside from your bones feeling like they're on fire 24/7, seizures, TIA's, chronic insomnia, etc; must be psychosomatic, couldn't possibly be due to anything else. Sorry for the run on sentence there.

At the risk of being absolutely skewered... I've suffered from anxiety since I was a teenager, 20+ years. After years of talk therapy and various medications, I've got it mostly under control and no longer require medication. That being said, there actually is an element of truth to this. Learning to recognize that your mind and body's reaction to a given situation is an irrational response is an important skill. Over time, you'll develop the coping skills to recognize what's going on, take a step back, center yourself, and reframe the situation in your mind. Normalizing an anxious reaction within oneself typically leads to avoidance of situations and a lack of personal growth and development.

This is true to a point. I was able to control mine with logic and coping skills until a few years ago when my husband died and I witnessed the accident. My anxiety went to a point that was debilitating, constant, and completely unmanageable. I thank a wonderful doctor and good drugs every day for giving me my life back. I do still use logic and when I'm in a good place I can typically "talk myself down" from most random attacks, but without the drugs doing the heavy lifting there's no way I would have the tools needed to do that.

That giving people rights does not remove your rights. You don't get a free right to suppress people who are not like you. BuT I dOn'T wAnT gAyS tO mArRy... Then don't marry someone of your gender. You can still freely stay married to your opposite gendered spouse. It isn't infringing on your rights. It bugs you that you can't force other people to do what you want.

Someone asked me why I WASN'T opposed to gay marriage because in their minds it diminished my het marriage. I just asked 'how so?' and watched then struggle. This is so silly. A modern relationship is about two people deciding to spend life together because it's easier than being alone and hopefully because they love each other, but in my mind that's optional. Marriage means taking responsibility for the well being of your spouse and making a commitment to each other to care for each other and help each other out. That's it. Another couple marrying has no impact whatsoever on my marriage and vice versa. Marriage is only between those married to each other

Plus the legalization of gay marriage prevents the problem of child custody, inheritance or medical decisions should the partner become sick or die. In most states, if you are not the spouse, everything stated above goes to the next blood relative....even if that blood relative kicked you out of the house because you came out as gay.

Many of our problems, whether at work or in relationships, stem back to communication issues. In fact, this Preply survey showed that Americans are becoming less effective communicators, and respondents say that being interrupted is the biggest communication problem of all.

Other communication problems that drive Americans crazy are being talked over (19%) and having to repeat themselves (18%). So why do people get so miserably frustrated when they are asked to repeat themselves? Well, apparently, it has to do with implying that the listener wasn’t paying attention to what they’re saying and as a result, that makes the speaker feel underappreciated and like they're wasting their time.

The question is posed by young women, old women, middle aged women, young men, old men and middle aged men alike. When I reply that yes, my husband is at home PARENTING his children they usually reply how "lucky" I am.

Weren't? I think there might be a disconnect on the age/generation view. I am in the over 40 category (gen x) as are 95% of my friends. In my friend group our kids range from 4 to 16 years old. We are STILL parenting. Father participation among my friends varies but all of them are actively engaged in parenting and all of them are quite capable fathers. There is certainly room for improvement but as a collective group we are very much improved than our boomer parents.

My husband and I have an 8 yo. I’m also male. I’ve posted this before. I have to carry our child’s passport & birth certificate on my at all times, because I get confronted or have the police called on me regularly. Especially if the three of us are out together. The assumption that a 50yo man with a child is sinister is a widespread problem. In Disneyland, we were taken to the little police office by the entrance to Main Street twice on one day. Because so many people reported us as potential kidnappers or something. The second time, I called a lawyer buddy and he threatened them. They gave us passes and compt some things because they realised how ridiculous it was. We deal with this shît every damn day.

Married for 40+ years. My wife always had a full time job and better payment. When our children were young, I wasn´t happy with my job. So I became a stay-at-home-husband. A full time job for a mother wasn´t normal in those days. It was always, you´re unemployed and she has to work full time, that poor woman. Taking care of the children and running the household was completely voluntary (and fun to do).

When some moms request or demand their spouses to be involved with the children, take care of their own children - fight over the issue, many times other women try to cover up for men! That makes me angry. "Back in those days, men had to work long hours, even now they do. We women should understand if they can't." It takes both the man and woman to create a baby. Why is it only woman's role? Especially when women equally work long hours in the office, at home and still manage to care for the child? Child rearing is acquired skill. Women maybe are slightly better in terms of childcare, but many times women too learn post birth. So then why can't men learn? And in the cases where men are doing their best to take care of the children, why treat like they're "baby sitting"?

Y'know, I hear this a lot, but in 10 years of raising my daughter almost exclusively I've never heard this. Nor have I gotten weird stares at the park or library. About the only way I feel left out is that we never get invited to kid stuff with the other moms - but even that is remedied pretty easily just by bringing it up. I must live in some super progressive place.

Thank goodness! Me neither and they're actually not my own children that I'm playing with... er, I mean they're my nieces and nephews and I AM babysitting BUT no-one else knows that! I have never seen anyone look at me oddly. I started making an effort to check because I keep reading this here on BP! Probably made me look more suspicious! Didn't enter my head before. No-one has said anything or appears to think there is anything weird about me being out with a child or a few children and some of them look absolutely nothing like me! We don't use the 'uncle' tag either (blended families it was easier). I'm in the UK and I also see many men out and about with children in parks, teaching them to ride bikes along bridleways, walking in the fields with dogs and so forth. Men out with kids and no one taking any notice. More so in fact since WFH increased as well.

Yes. Men are allowed to be fathers the same way women are allowed to be mothers. The idea that one is more suitable or superior than the other is not the case. For example, my dad won custody over me, not my mom, because he was the better parent. Also, you don't BABYSIT your own kids. It's called parenting, and I'm surprised how many people get that wrong.

Also, a lot of artificial stuff is synthesized specifically to make it safer. Natural medicine can be effective, but there are extra chemicals in it, and it's hard to measure how much of the active chemical is in there to get the proper dosage. Some modern drugs are a synthetic version of natural ones, but much safer to use.

This is so true. I react horribly to all the 'chemical free' stuff and most of the time (especially with deoderant) it doesn't even work. I'd rather have no painful rash and the proper function of an item. Yet somehow before trying them I'm always assured "you won't react to this one!"

Aspirin is extract from willow bark, but I’m not going to down the whole bottle just because it’s natural. This is why it’s important to disclose to your physician any and all supplements and vitamins you are taking because they can be contraindicated with certain medications. I.E. you don’t take St Johns Wort if you’re taking an antidepressant, you could get a toxic dose of serotonin and it’s called serotonin syndrome. Talk to your doctor!

LOL yes. I wish I could remember the example but just last week I was thinking about this as an advertisement was doing the, "all natural ingredients so you know it has to be good" routine. It really depends. Natural Vitamin C is better for my body than natural lead, mercury or arsenic.

Yes! And the call to 'Do your own research'. If you don't have access to a research lab, or at the very least the relevant academic journals then you simply can't do the research. You can read a little around the subject, but you will not have the same understanding a person who has spent years learning their subject, and then actually doing research.

Repeating yourself is far from the only annoying thing people experience while communicating. Many people are also guilty of giving unsolicited advice, guidance or information that wasn't asked for. Not only is it considered disrespectful and presumptuous to insert your opinions and ideas when they may not be wanted. It can also communicate a sort of superiority, since it assumes the advice-giver knows what's right or best for the listener.

Bored Panda reached out to Dr. Audrey Tang, a chartered psychologist and author of multiple books, including "Be A Great Manager Now", "The Leader's Guide to Mindfulness," and "The Leader's Guide to Resilience” who said that the one and only person we have a right to manage is our own self.

Being an introvert doesn’t mean I’m shy. It means having a social battery which gets run down and sometimes becomes empty if I don’t have enough peaceful alone time to recharge it. My job is peopley enough but at least I’m paid to be there. I actively avoid crowds on my time off.

Yup! I work two weeks on a ferry, two weeks off. During those two weeks off I am rarely seen out in public unless I'm walking my dog. But I get such c**p from my own introverted family for not being social with them. First if all, during those two weeks on I deal with all manner of people and my customer service persona cannot falter. My shifts are 12 hours long and I am standing for nearly all of it. I love my job but it is hard. And I often tell my family that not one of them could do this job. So yeah, after two weeks I'm exhausted and I need my time off to recharge the social battery.

A good way I try to describe this to my little brother is: I love hanging out with you, but sometimes my battery starts to run low. You know when you’re playing a really fun game on the iPad but it dies? That’s kinda how I am. I am having a really fun time with you, but after a while I run out of battery and need to re-charge.

I’m an extrovert and my husband is an introvert. We had done a myers Briggs session at work one day, which truly explained the differences. That night we, and 20 of our closest friends, went to see Eric Clapton in concert. Before the concert began, we were all our in the lobby area, socializing when I noticed hubs wasn’t there I went in to the seats to find him sitting in a row of 20 seats all by himself. Any other day I probably would have said “what’s wrong with you? We hardly ever get out and you’re here by yourself”. But instead I realized he needed to recharge. So I sat beside him and we talked quietly for about 15 minutes when he said “do you want to go see what everyone else is up to?” And we did. Had a great time after that.

For the Americans, can we add that vast swaths of the people living in the American Southwest who present what Americans view as a "Mexican" phenotype can trace their family lineage to that same area of the country all the way to before the Louisiana Purchase, and often thousands and thousands of years before that. They never crossed a border. The border crossed over them.

Migrants take hard, low-pay jobs that locals won't take. This reminds me of the anti-migrants press campaign of the UK tabloids, back in 2013.They published fake photos and hysterical articles, saying that UK would be "invaded" by hundreds of Romanian and Bulgarian workers as of Jan 1st. In the first days of January 2014, there was 1 (one) worker who "invaded" them. :)))

To some extent, yes. Undocumented immigrants cannot claim unemployment. And while unemployment insurance can be paid out to documented immigrants, other types of benefit payments can impact an immigrant's chances of getting permanent residency. These include things like food-stamp benefits, housing benefits, etc.

I get what you're saying. But I also think a lot of people have experienced situational depression (I'm just on what I hope is the tail end of a several-year trek through that wasteland myself), and so they may make assumptions about what another person is going through. But of course there are many people for whom there isn't a specific "reason" which is to blame for how they're feeling.

What’s worse, if you offer advice, Dr. Tang argues, the person takes it and it all goes wrong, they may blame you. “Or if you offer advice and they don't take it and it still all goes wrong, they may feel they cannot come to you.”

“Sometimes the best thing you can do is be a friend and wait to pick up the pieces,” Dr. Tang argues. In fact, Dr. Tang reminds us that this also applies to explaining truths you are tired of repeating: “You cannot save people from themselves.” Dr. Tang added that if you are trying to do so, then it’s fair to ask yourself “what are you avoiding looking at in YOUR OWN life?”

What always got me is the number of female patients that absolutely refuse to have a male nurse care for them. These people have gone to mostly male doctors for everything from the common cold to childbirth. Few male patients will complain over male nurses because it's "not normal" for a man to be a nurse. If some of them get a male nurse they act like he's there to satisfy his homosexual ideations. Not many male patients do this, it's mostly the females and nothing you say is going to convince them that Steve isn't trying to put the moves on them. I would have between 30-64 patients depending on if I worked days or nights. No nurse cares if you're male or female, clothed or butt naked, we're just trying to help you and get on to the next patient.

THIS!!!!!! I was a nurse. We had 2 male students in our nursing class in 1974 - 1976. They had a really rough time. Im so glad there are male nurses now. They bring a new perspective, change the dynamics, mostly in a good way. Female nurses do also get asked about why I want to be “just a nurse” and not a doctor. Well, I like being here helping you recover and also monitor you carefully for things going wrong and knowing what to do, for the 11 hours and 55 minutes that your doctor isn’t.

For old people it may not be intentional. When I was young it was pretty much all male doctors / all male nurses. I was not raised to think it SHOULD be that way, it was just how it was. In other words, some old folks may have spent the last 50 years where every man with a stethoscope was a doctor. I think it was maybe 20 years ago for me that I had my first male nurse. The good news is current and future generations are growing up with both genders in all jobs being the norm.

My wife is good at this. She gets nauseous in the mornings sometimes and it directly correlates to how she feels about her job. However, she always blames it on something from dinner the night before. She doesn't get the causation vs. the correlation. We have pizza maybe once a month but she feels like c**p about her job and feels sick much more often than that. (She loves her current job and hasn't felt bad in the morning since she got it.)

While communicating with people, it often happens that people ask for advice, but that doesn’t mean they want to hear the truth. Dr. Tang explained that in these instances, they actually just want validation.

“And sometimes I feel the most empowering thing to do is to ask - what do you want me to say - do you actually want my advice or someone to agree with you?” Dr. Tang said. She argues that this will save you time in giving advice to someone who doesn't actually want it.

Dr. Tang concluded that ultimately, every person needs to make their decisions on their own. We can try to prove them wrong or repeat ourselves indefinitely, but at some point, all our effort becomes nothing more than just a waste of time.

How evolution works. Giraffes didn't stretch their necks. All the ones with short necks repeatedly died before reproducing. Evolutionary filters require mass death and/or overpowering reproduction of a mutation. Also, science isn't a belief system. Its a method of repeatable testing.

Still there's sadly a growing crowd that treats science like religion and get really angry if you dispute anything that's 'scientifically proven' even when the last study is from the 70s and newer knowledge makes it very likely it might be obsolete and needs retesting or there was already an attempt to recreate the study that failed. One study can't 'prove' anything. It takes at least several studies to show if something is valid or not. One study with 30 participants is not statistically relevant and cannot make predictions for the whole world.

Some people dismiss Darwin's Theory of Evolution by saying "Well, it's just a theory". I notice that they don't say that about Newton's Theory of Gravity and then jump out of a tenth fioor window. A theory is an explanation of a fact. Both evolution and gravity are facts. Their theories are just explanation of those facts - explanations that can be improved on with more knowledge.

The example of the giraffes is actually one of the famous examples of science at work. The "giraffes stretching their necks" was a bona fide theory in the early 1800s, when the science world was trying to make sense of the whole "evolution" thing. Lamarck's theory of evolution postulated that acquired traits could be inherited, an idea that can be traced back to Aristotles. Darwin, after his voyage, reworked the theory and ultimately came up with a different solution, natural selection. Through a few decades all of Lamarck's proofs and examples were reassessed and explained through different mechanisms, effectively replacing Lamarckism with Darwinism as the proven method of evolution in the scientific consensus, thanks to the ever growing corpus of proof provided by the newborn study of genetics.

You shouldn’t downvote someone just because you disagree. I thought it was “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Can’t remember the source. Yes, that sounds drastic for here, but it is true. However, if it’s nasty, and that does sure happen, or racist or abusive, that’s what deserves downvoted. I’ve seen some pretty nasty exchanges. That’s what made me leave the first time. Couldn’t figure out how people got away with it. Yet I wrote something that was no big deal and suddenly it was “disappeared”. Would like to have known why.

Or even neccessarily a problem. Having different opinions is valid and in many cases absolutely ok. Even if you don't like, let's say, vegans, that's or, you don't have to participate in it, as long as you leave them alone. But sadly too many people feel the urge to make everyone conform to their opinions and take offense in things that absolutely don't harm them. No vegans just existing don't harm you just because you don't like them. It's you choosing to be offended in 9 of 10 cases. I know lots of vegans and can say: most of them are absolutely nice and normal people, and normal means some are A$$holes, but that doesn't mean they all are.

Don't get your mental health information from TikTok, facebook, or self proclaimed experts who aren't professionally licensed. I no longer offer a professional opinion anywhere outside of work, and that includes reddit. I've learned that 95% of the time, people don't want to hear the facts, they just want to circle jerk about whatever reality they've conjured up in their heads, and if you correct them, they'll be pissed off and then it's a bad time for everyone signed, a psychiatrist

People HATE being corrected. People do not wish to have new information from which they may alter their views. Much of what people think about life and politics comes from a split in the population they decided to join waaay back. Since then they have looked for information to justify that decision..

For sure. Looking to make a self diagnosis is an issue in the first place. Hopping on the latest fashion train of mental illness (at present it seems to be bipolar) is so frustrating for those of us who have an actual diagnosis from a psychiatrist. Those people interfere with our legitimate acceptance by society.

We can't ignore the reality that there are huge barriers and risks to professional diagnosis for a lot of people. And a lot of professional ignorance about some things - it is very hard for autistic women for example to get diagnosis. In some countries it is just impossible. Maybe self-diagnosis is the best they can do and if that helps then I have no problem with it.

Exactly. I'm autistic with ADHD and cPTSD. Many (I dare to say mostly of them) psychologists and psychiatrists are far from being aware of these disorders. Their minds are still in the last century, thinking only white little boys have these disorders. I'm literally traumatized by MH "professionals". I only trust in neurodivergent professionals now. Neurotypical professionals keep misdiagnosing neurodivergent ppl with anxiety and depression when the source of the problem is way deep. It's easy for neurotypical ppl to keep invalidating our researches when they never went through what I went (and I'm still going).

Had a friend that did this constantly. Everything was a 'flu' to her(yes, I know actual influenza is a virus, she did not, however). She also INSISTED the flu shot gave her a stomach bug. She had a kidney transplant in her late 20's, her fiance told her that vaccines were 'bad'. She was at the front of the list at John Hopkins(we live outside Baltimore MD), didn't get it, never masked (even though as a transplant patient, she had a medically weakened immune system so her body wouldn't reject her new kidney) and went everywhere as soon as pandemic protection orders eased up. She died on 22 Dec 2021 from pneumonia and multiple Organ failure from COVID-19 at the age of 45. We were friends for 35 years. I'm still mad and sad about her death and her fiance and family's reactions. They wanted to sue the ambulance and hospital last I heard. I can't talk with them anymore, because a)I got chastised by all of them for getting the vaccines and b)it makes me too mad and sad too listen to them.

This is not quite true. Although it is true antibiotics will have no effect on treating the viral infection itself Severe viral infections can suppress the immune system and make patient more susceptible to a secondary bacterial infection. For viral infections that affect the lungs, they are particularly vulnerable to bacterial pneumonia . A high percentage of the deaths in 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic were the result of bacterial co-infections. I do agree though that a lot of people think that antibiotics will treat the common cold; they will not. They should be used sparingly, only where the patient is at severe risk of developing a secondary bacterial infection

You're adding on a separate point though. Antibiotics will treat secondary infections, yes (I should know, I get plenty of those!). However, the point above stands alone. They will do nothing for the viral part.

That being said, it is a pity that unfortunately the range of good virostatica is quite limited. We can counter bacterial infections pretty well by now throug antibiotics (, although multi-resistant bacteria are a thing), but when it comes to viruses, we often are limited to suppressing or alleviating their symptoms or slowing down their growth. Which works very well sometimes (noone would have belived in the 90s that HIV would be neither transmittable nor detectable under appropriate therapy one day), but can someone PLEASE come up with a remedy for the common cold?

It’s because viruses mutate so very rapidly. There are so many different flu viruses that what is in your flu shot is not effective for all flu viruses, just the ones that are predicted to be prominent this season. Sometimes they’re wrong. It happens. Nothing is perfect. But that’s why people say “But I got the flu shot and I got the flu anyway,” . That may be because you came across a strain of flu virus that was not in the shot. It happens.

Well this is annoying. (Mostly about the comments) There is a big group of people who do not "get" naturally and for them these kind of things can become a day job getting it right. I try my best to write properly and it is so annoying if people keep correcting. It is not like I purposely write it wrong, I just cannot memorize a dictionary. If you get what I mean why bring it up all the time that I did something wrong again? Would it motivate you if you tried something at your best and people keep pointing out it is not perfect? Some people just seem unable to grasp that something that is easy for them could be very difficult for others...

You might well be someone with undiagnosed dyslexia. One in ten people have some form of dyslexia, it is extremely common (as is being undiagnosed) and these kinds of mistakes, including ones like their, there and they're, are par for the course. Sure, some people might be poorly educated (is that their fault?) and some people might not be smart (still not their fault!) but they also may well be dyslexic (definitely not their fault). They will not know the word is wrong! So many judgemental people.

Yeah, I have dozens of health and structural issues, so I have canes and a wheelchair. I usually only need the wheelchair when I am out for long periods of time that would otherwise require me to walk a lot or sit in unpredictable chairs (I use it anytimeI am at school or in a large museum, for example), but most of the time, I just use my cane. But because the worst of my physical pain is caused by things that are in flux (spine moves unpredictably, joints are sometimes where they are supposed to be and sometimes not, etcetera), there are also times when I don't need any mobility aids. I can walk, run, even hike with no issues on my best days. But that doesn't mean I'm not disabled. It doesn't negate the fact that on my worst days, I can't stand and need my partner to help carry me to the washroom lest I p*ss the bed. Ableds (and some disableds need to realize that almost invariably, the person who is in the body knows it best. Just because someone doesn't fit their image of, mean.

Just so you know, I'm not questioning whether you're disabled or not, I'm questioning why you're not displaying your disabled badge when you park in that spot. I saw a video recently where someone was calling out a guy for parking in a disabled bay without displaying their badge, they guy was in fact disabled and turned it into an attack on people with disabilities, the comments section was not fecking horrid towards the person calling them out, when they were actually in the right for calling out someone parking there without a badge. If you have a badge, use it.

I absolutely agree with you: I would never call out anybody who has a Blue Badge parking in a disabled bay. It makes my blood boil when people use disabled bays that they are not entitled to. There are many people with invisible disabilities, such as myself, who are entitled to a Blue Badge and are entitled to park in a disabled bay; they do not owe anyone any explanations. I am waiting for a reassessment which is more than a year overdue, as I need to be re-evaluated as my mobility has become a lot worse and now I should be entitled to a Blue Badge myself.

I'm old enough that I had friends who had polio. With one friend we would go to the mall and park in the handicap spot and get yelled at because neither of us had a wheelchair. My friend had a slightly twisted leg and struggled to walk 100 feet without taking a 3-4 minute rest from the lung damage. No wheelchair because trying to fold/unfold it to load/unload it in the trunk would physically exhaust him. The man spent part of his high school years in and out of iron lungs. Let him park close to the entrance.

Pressure on the arm I put most weight on, that kind of thing. The ferrule on the bottom of the cane will last longer as well - can be really tough to find ones that fit some canes!

Many blind people can still see _something_. And that something varies A LOT individually. The term 'blind' is a practical simplification and there is also a legal meaning, were you are blind if visual acuity is below a certain value. That doesn't mean it's all completely dark.

Someone walks up to me and says “Smile”. Some stranger at the mall. WTH? I then make them feel really bad about having said that to me. “I had to put my pet to sleep yesterday, so I’m not really into smiling”. Shuts them up real fast.

It's gotten better... but now people are all diagnosed, so if you say you have something, chances are they don't take you seriously because "oh, me too!" I don't tell people I'm bipolar with a lot of social anxiety because it's fun. I tell people so they know I don't want to hang out or I'm not going to appear "friendly" because anxiety. My mother was very unsympathetic of those with depression ("Pull yourself together", etc ) until she got it herself. Unfortunately, she wouldn't accept that she had it, refused counselling and antidepressants and used alcohol to medicate herself. It was a mess. Really messed up the relationship with my dad, and me and my siblings. She has ended up married to an enabler and is very unhappy.

Maintaining a safe following distance is the easiest thing to do to avoid accidents and yet most people aren’t doing it. It’s basically impossible to react in time to avoid an accident if you’re following less than two seconds behind someone. It doesn’t get you where you’re going faster. The accident will always be your fault. And finally, two seconds is way longer than most people think, most will count one second.

Tailgaters are moronic a-holes. When I learn that someone I know is a habitual tailgater, I lose whatever respect for them I had. But brake checking tailgaters is equally a-holish behavior. Simply leaving space in front of me, while driving at or above the speed limit, is usually enough to keep tailgaters at bay. If that doesn't work, I just move over, or pull over if I have to. Life is to short to waste with some a-hole in your rearview mirror.

We were driving on a motor way. It was a very wet day with poor visibility. The signs on the motorway mandated a slower speed than normal (due to the weather). We drove to that speed limit, and ensured there was at least two car-lengths of stopping distance. It was so annoying the number of people who were exceeding the speed limit, and then drove into the 'space'. Learn to drive to the conditions, and learn to drive safely!

For whatever reason sleep doesn't come naturally to me - I've tried everything and it just isn't something I can always manage. Not that it'll help your insomnia, but have you looked into ADHD? I never considered ADHD until my mid-40s, when the internet taught me that it doesn't always look like an eight year on crack; "my brain never quits" is often mental Hyperactivity (common in girls who are taught very young to mask for society). I got on meds (there are non-stimulant options) a year or so ago and they've helped quite a bit.

For every medically diagnosed case there are up to three people who self-diagnosed ADHD, most of the times without any real basis. Everything on the list! ADHD has traditionally been diagnosed in children, especially boys, from their tendency to bounce off the walls and climb the curtains. The hyperactivity element is not always quite so visible. As a kid, I (F57) would never have been picked out as having ADHD. However, earlier this year, I was diagnosed with it, including the H part of it. I am not one to shake up a lot of dust outwardly, but if you looked at my inner mind, it's like a bouncy castle with a dozen kids hopped up on sugar in it. For those who like to say that ADHD is not real, why then does it run in families? I read an article recently about having found some, but not all yet, of the genes responsible for ADHD. An interesting point is that within this set of genes there is a subset of them that are also present in autism.

Commercial passenger aircraft are designed to fly on half of their engines. So a twin engine aircraft can fly normally on a single engine, and four engined aircraft on two.

It isn't the glide. It's the landing. Most of the time at altitude you are more than 100 miles from an airport. If you are lucky you are not over the middle of an ocean. 747 no engine glide is 15:1 (15 mph forward to 1 mph lost altitude). Take off speed is 200 mph. So if landing no engines at about 200 mph you'd be falling downward about 30 mph. TDLR: It's not the glide, it's "parking" in a bunch of trees or the side of a mountain or sinking in the ocean. I enjoy flying and am totally not afraid of it. But I also recognize my chances are not great if all engines fail. (and statistically still safer than car on freeway - lol)

If engine failure is the only problem then your chances aren't that bad, particularly if it's at a reasonable altitude and near land. It's loss of control and/or structural failure that very often end in tragedy.

Technically helicopters can glide too, but it happens vertically since the wings are rotary rather than fixed. The principle is called Autorotation and results in a landing which is significantly lighter than crashing.

And that being in a monogamous relationship doesn't make you less bi or pan. No I'm not just gay now because I'm with the same gender, no I'm not suddenly het because I married the opposite gender. Still pan, but monogamous!

God, I hate this too. Your partner is of a different sex? You're straight! You're dating someone of the same gender now? You must have been gay all along! You don't have a partner at the moment? I guess you're ace now! Between heartbeats, we are all dead! It's asinine.

Not does it mean that today I’m straight and tomorrow I’m gay. It mean I’m attracted to both sexes, all the time. And yes, I’m in a heterosexual marriage and love my spouse. Still attracted to other people, male and female…all the time.

When my oldest son told me he was bisexual I thought he was gay. Then he explained it wasn't the same thing and I got it; it took me less than 5 minutes. End of conversation. He's with a woman now but he's still bisexual (and she knows it) but isn't looking for a man because he's with someone at the moment.

As 2nd shift worker(4pm- close) and someone who's circadian rhythm is 'off' naturally, it makes me crazy that so many people think I should be up at 9 am. I usually go to sleep between 3:30am-5am. I've done this my whole adult life, I get 8 hours but get grief that I don't sleep at 'normal" times. My schedule works for me, even when I didn't worked, I slept like this. If I go to bed before 2am, I wake up at 2am. So I've made a sleep schedule that works for me! It's awful that people get so judgmental over other's lives....

There are a lot of things about working nights that seem to be very difficult to explain to people who don't. The manager in charge of doing our rotas at work drives me mad - she'll split our shifts so we have one night off in the middle of them, or schedule us for a random single night, and no matter how many times I try to explain how irritating that is she persists in doing it.

Worked 7p-7a for years. Just popping in to ask a question at 2pm or a quick favor at 11am was nearly every day. It's baffling that people cannot comprehend that interrupting my (best case scenario) six hours of sleep is rude and bad for my health.

My husband worked nights for almost a decade and my brother in law does too. My sister always says her husband is napping. It bugs me, he’s not napping he’s sleeping, his normal 8 hours out of 24. It’s not just semantics because she also feels like it’s cool to just wake him up if she needs something because he’s just napping. 🤦🏻‍♀️

And I'm always shocked by people that claim they aren't racists because they are members of the Black/Hispanic/Asian community. Uhm...yes you can still be racist. I've seen a lot of Black people that say racist slurs about Hispanics. I've seen Hispanic people that say racists slurs about Asians. Racism isn't just a problem amongst white people....it covers all groups. So maybe the key here is stop hating on everyone and look at what's inside you. If you are hating someone just because they belong to a particular group...then you are probably part of the problem.

Honestly, I'm literally only vegan because of the way animals are treated at mass production facilities/factory farms. I'm a massive animal lover and I just hate seeing 50 chickens cooped up together in a tiny cage full of filth. If the ways of producing animal products gets better, I'll honestly probably go to being a vegetarian instead if full-on vegan. And no, I'm not gonna hate you if you enjoy meat. I don't care, just don't shove it in my face.

I honestly believe that we are going far out on a limb by anthropomorphizing animals as much as we do. It's a conceit that is possible because we are at a point in civilization where we can stop thinking practically and instead start projecting our own feelings onto animals. If we didn't have so much free time to waste thinking about this stuff it wouldn't be an issue. There are studies that prove that plants "scream" when pulled or cut, but I haven't heard of vegans taking up their cause yet.

Diabetes nurse here: there is a genetic predesposition to type 2 diabetes. But lifestyle is key. Thanks to a healty lifestyle type 2 can go in remission for years or never develop at all. However type 1 will develop regardless of your lifestyle choices. Allso there are more forms of diabetes than just type 1 and 2. For instace MODY or LADA are often misdiagnosed as type 2, but hardly respond to a healty lifestye. Hence the confusion.

Viruses don't even fit the category of living creatures. It's quite interesting how these creatures work and since they require some type of host to perform anything that is considered "living" they are a non-living entity. They can't even truly reproduce; they replicate and pass on DNA by making its hosts cells replicate their DNA. And no, parasites are not the same because they can perform life functions without a host; it's just easier to use something else than do it yourself

The above info is succinct and true. Viruses differ from bacteria on a biological level. Bacterias are free-living cells that can live inside or outside a body, while viruses are a non-living collection of molecules that need a host to survive. The study of biology is fascinating with multiple levels of living things arranged from the simplest to most complex. Biology doesn't require as much math as physics or astronomy, but it can still be challenging to understand biological systems and processes. Students are expected to understand and retain a lot of confusing and complex concepts, which is tough for even the brightest of minds.

Harsh sentencing doesn’t deter crime. Study after study, decade after decade, this has been confirmed. The most significant effect on deterring criminal activity is likelihood of being caught. Harsh punishment has a negligible effect.

Also, education is usually the best way out of situations that are conducive to crime. So the money used on the "war on drugs" would have been better spent in the education sector.

And it's not just "high-school education" either. There needs to be stuff that includes what drugs and alcohol can do to you, as well as an unborn baby. How to pay taxes. How to get a job. How to go about talking to a therapist. FREE therapy sessions if you feel like you're in immediate danger to yourself or someone else. How emergency services work, and what you can get from them. It won't eradicate crime. There will always be evil. But I believe it would help those who really want a good life.

True. But it also leads to the crimes one does commit being far more serious. It's actually quite rational, when you think about it.. If you know you're facing the capital punishment anyway, there really is less "need" to hold back. Also, you really don't want anyone to live to tell the tale.

Harsh punishment exacerbates the problem by brutalising the people going into the system - people who are often already at a disadvantage through poverty, mental illness or addiction in the first place. The types of people who commit crimes who aren’t from those demographics rarely get imprisoned, convicted, or for that matter charged or even investigated in the first place. But they do cause immeasurably more harm

Scrap punishment. Prevention is the key. The consequences of crime should be geared towards preventing it from happening again and protecting innocent people. That means, if you have a person who's agressive and hurts others, you do what you have to do to stop them, but it also means, if you have a person that steals because they're poor and have no other way out, you give them other means to get what they need like education and fair pay. Crime will never end unless we start with this.

Jail is meant to serve four justice goals: act as a deterrent, protect society (and to a lesser extent protect the criminal from vigilantes), provide rehabilitation and punish. The last one has always been controversial, and is should always be considered the smallest and least important goal.

We do it all wrong in the US. If we used jail to improve these peoples lives and made sure they could get jobs when they get out they would be much less likely to reoffend. The problem is that they come out without any real improvement in their skillset other than what criminal behaviour they might have picked up and then we dump them somewhere without much in the way of prospects for getting ahead.

You can build muscle to give shape and more surface area for the fat to spread. This will cause a person to look more toned. For abs, building can give better posture and help firm/smooth (not give you 6 pack abs) the lower belly. Wish I picked up heavy weights years before I did.

However, creating a "caloric deficit" is far more complex than simply reducing caloric intake and exercising more. Bodies REALLY hate losing fat, and will play all sorts of metabolic games to keep that fat. There is no one-to-one conversion of calories which we eat to fat, and fat is one of the last things that our bodies will use in order to correct for caloric deficit.

Yes, but modern health care still helps a great deal at the other end. I was in a Filipino cemetery a few years ago. Browsing graves while waiting for my Filipino relatives to visit the grave they came for. I noticed a great many graves of people who died as adults but fairly young compared to US standards. I asked my Filipino SIL about it and she said, well, a lot of people can not afford the health care so they die. In other words - making it past a few years old is great but average life expectancy is affected by more than just that.

This is NOT true. Studies show that the best predictor of long life was resources like food and shelter. Longevity has increased steadily through history. Life expectancy at birth was a brief 25 years during the Roman Empire, it reached 33 years by the Middle Ages and raised up to 55 years in the early 1900s.1 In the Middle Ages, the average life span of males born in landholding families in England was 31.3 years and the biggest danger was surviving childhood.2 Once children reached the age of 10, their life expectancy was 32.2 years, and for those who survived to 25, the remaining life expectancy was 23.3 years. Such estimates reflected the life expectancy of adult males from the higher ranks of English society in the Middle Ages,3 and were similar to that computed for monks of the Christ Church in Canterbury during the 15th century.4 Similar to landholders and monks, members of the Vatican were also likely, in the past centuries, to be better fed, clothed and sheltered,"

You cannot get a raise and wind up with a lower net income because of taxes. Income taxes are *progressive*. The higher bracket does not apply to the money you make under the threshold. (This is different from the welfare cliff, which is very real.)

(US here) if you make a living wage, this is typically true (yes, graduated tax levels). However, if you are like many in poverty, getting a raise can mean you no longer get things like food stamps, free lunches for your kids at school, government income support, and more. The small raise can literally mean lower overall income because you no longer qualify for those programs. So it's not so much that you "get a raise and have a lower net income because of taxes" but it's a "get a raise, lose a S ton of supplemental programs, and have a lower net income". There is a lot of ignorance around this issue.

For basic income as wages, this is likely to be true in most countries. It gets somewhat more complicated when you run a business or have investments and are claiming losses or carrying some things over into other years. It can also get confusing when your income pushes you up a tax bracket and then you have to pay tax on savings interest at the higher rate - you don't actually pay any more tax, as your got more of your wages in the lower band, but you do see it directly coming off.

He (or at least the government) control taxes on fuel. They could reduce these if they wished, thus reducing the price. Also the way the price for oil and gas is set globally and the way production can be ramped up/down in response to market changes could be regulated much better to bring prices down for the consumer.

When you can control the supply of something, you effectively control the price. E.g. issuing an (illegal) executive order to halt construction of a pipeline, directing your treasury secretary to pressure banks not to finance new drilling/exploration projects, releasing emergency supply from the strategic reserves, refusing to issue permits to construct new refineries, etc.

“Share if you agree” on social media will never bring about any form of sweeping changes or reforms, and never will. Changing your profile picture to a flag/person/KEY WORKER to show solidarity can sod off as well. “Sending thoughts and prayers and positive energy”

To put it as simply as possible, if you have type 1 diabetes, you have a broken pancreas. Your pancreas is what makes the bodies insulin and when it doesn't or makes very little then you need insulin injections. You can't actually break your pancreas or become type 1 randomly out of nowhere; you're born with a pancreas that can't make or make enough insulin or have another condition that can contributeto it. Sometimes it can affect you a little later because it was making some insulin but just not enough and sometimes you can develop some type of autoimmune disease/disorder that affects your pancreas and in turn can severely affect its ability to produce insulin. Either way, type 1 is all about that pancreas and nothing you can do to prevent it

Type I is a genetic condition. You ARE NOT "genetically predisposed" to get Type II diabetes. It occurs due to health and lifestyle choices.

Bull. There is totally a genetic predisposition to it which is why doctors bother to ask family history when you show higher than average glucose levels."Type 2 diabetes has a stronger link to family history and lineage than type 1, and studies of twins have shown that genetics play a very strong role in the development of type 2 diabetes. Race can also play a role. Yet it also depends on environmental factors." https://diabetes.org/diabetes/genetics-diabetes#:~:text=Type%202%20diabetes%20has%20a,also%20depends%20on%20environmental%20factors. I have chronic illnesses that will never get better no matter how much I wish they would, and I've had them my whole adult life, to various degrees: Fibromyalgia and CFS/ME. Fibromyalgia has so many different conditions related to it, like uncontrollable muscle spasms, brain fog and cognitive issues, pain and mobility issues, IBS, sleep disorders, nerve pain that you can't get away from... Yes, I take opioids to make my life bearable. No I'm not addicted. Yes I am dependent, there's a very big difference. I am never going to get better and I'm probably going to get worse. I wish I could work but I can't anymore, because I can't be reliable on a day-to-day basis. I would do anything to have a normal life, but I have to accept that there are some things I will never do, or never do again.

Also, in many cases, it isn’t anything like a normal illness that you can improve with medication. For example, if you take painkillers that reduce your headache by 80%. For chronic illness you can’t just take something that reduces it by 80%. There often is no treatment at all. Nothing reduces it. You’re stuck with your worst illness, every day, feeling awful. It’s a living nightmare. I don’t recommend it to anyone!

Some chronic conditions are lifelong, many have ups and downs, remission is even possible in some cases. That being established, stop acting like your good health is somehow earned. We can improve our bodies baseline with the good diet, exercise, sleep and self care routine, but everyone's baseline is different. Don't assume I'm not doing everything I can to improve my situation. Just because my illness is invisible doesn't mean it is non-existent, if you say "you don't look sick" I might respond "you don't look stupid, appearances are deceiving."

Chronic illnesses are rarely reversible, usually don't get better and are normally progressive (meaning they worsen over time). It's not impossible to get better, but it is rare. I speak as someone with several Chronic conditions for the past 15+ years. Usually the most we can hope for is to maintain where we currently are for as long as possible

in south africa we get carded so often by traffic roadblocks, and legislation requiring ID at banks and cellphone stores, that we just carry ID all the time. We also require it for voting. I found it fascinating when I met an american at one stage and all she had was a piece of paper with a 'social security' number on it. No ID document. No drivers (she didn't drive), and passport at home (not on her). Weird. If you want to prove who you are, carry ID.

That's what I don't get. How can a person be so stupid to not realise that it's for their own protection! Anyone could come anytime and pretend to be them! Would they really want that the bank teller just accepts if someone came and said Im X, gimme money? I get immediate fraudster vibes if someone tries that. Not neccessarily that they try to access a different account, but that they try to claim the teller gave away money to a stranger and demand refunds later

Don't understand this actually... USA? In Belgium (don't know for the rest of Europe, but guess it is similar) we are obliged to carry an ID card as from the age of 12. Nowadays bank-card format with a chip. It also serves (for instance) as a data-carrier for any medicine prescriptions, or as a log-on to governmental websites. People might worry about bigbrother possibilities, but I guess that all depends on the government you have. I personally donot feel that threat.

You are required to carry ID at ALL times? I'd be scared of losing it! In the UK it is not required that we carry ID, but I'd expect to have to show some form of ID in the bank, or more usually enter my card PIN. I rarely use cash, but when I was paying for my car, I was amazed when the bank just got me to enter my PIN and then handed me a huge wad of notes without any questions. Where they do get a bit arsy is when opening a new bank account, where you have to produce several kinds of ID if you don't already have an account with that particular bank - it is an anti-fraud measure to make sure you are who you say you are.

No otherwise monkeys evolved from monkeys. Monkeys is a group of at least 300 separate species. Look back along the tree of life and you’ll find the point where the great apes and monkeys branched away from each other. That point is the common ancestor and is not a “monkey”

Poison is not the same thing as venom. People call snakes poisonous when really they mean to say venomous. Venom has to be injected into the bloodstream (like a snake bite). Poison has to be ingested to enter your bloodstream. You could drink rattlesnake venom and your stomach acids would kill it, but if you put that same rattlesnake venom on an open wound or injected it for whatever reason- that’s gonna be a problem

People seem to not believe me when I say my husband doesn't drink. Several people have assumed he's a recovering alcoholic. Nope...he just doesn't like to drink. I think over the past 32 years he's had maybe 20 beers and two shots of liquor....and all of those were during special events with friends.

I don't drink anymore because my body doesn't react well to it (among other things, it doesn't make me sleepy, but instead keeps me awake all night - and not a useful or productive sort of wakefulness) and I'll feel terrible for days. I have unexpected side effects to many medications too; my body is just weird that way. I'm not a prude, I still enjoy socializing, I don't judge or mind being around people who are drinking responsibly. And I don't need or want to be coaxed into "just one drink."

Celiac is a real disease that millions of people have, including myself, and no it cannot be “cured” by eating bread.

The trouble is that people keep confusing gluten allergy, trend gluten-free eating and celiacic disease. If you skip gluten because you have read in a magazine that it is bad for you, that's a personal lifestyle choice. If you are really allergic (most people are not); then avoiding it is the smart thing to do. But if you have celiacic disease, it actually gives you serious health troubles, so eating "normal" bread is not even an option.

I was once in a Papa Murphy's and asked for pizza on the gluten free crust. The manager stopped and asked if I had a gluten allergy or Celiac disease because he wanted to know if he should pull fresh toppings to avoid cross contamination from the current containers. I said "No...I just want to see how it compares to the regular crust...but I appreciate that you are aware of such issues. Not every manager shows that kind of knowledge and caring."

Gluten intolerance can come and go, and it isn't harmful for people with gluten intolerance to have a small amount of gluten. People with celiac disease can get really screwed up if they have gluten. You wouldn't eat peanuts if they gave you anaphylaxis. Neither would you consume gluten if you were celiac.

Celiac is an autoimmune disease. Your immune system basically perceive gluten as foreign invaders and launches an attack with your innards as casualties sometimes. This is NOT the same as an allergy though. Yes an allergy will set your immune system off but it won't damage your intestines like celiac can and does.

Not everyone who is "allergic" to gluten actually has celiac though. That is the problem. It takes away from the seriousness of the actual disease when people just use it as a diet.

Something I didn't know until recently - if you're NOT celiac or don't have a gluten allergy and decide to stop having it in your diet then you will become sensitive to it - leading to the exact situation you were trying to avoid. Only go gluten free if advised by your doctor..

Yes, there is ALWAYS a bias, but that doesn't mean all biases are equal. There's quality journalism that aims to verify facts and present the truth as objectively as possible, and there is propaganda that will twist facts to push a particular agenda. Sadly the line is often blurred these days, and those who try to pass off propaganda as news smear better journalism by claiming equivalently of their biases.

The information is channelled through people. Each individual has their own biases. These might have come from a shared culture, a belief system, education, experience... How we respond to information, and then share it will be affected by our biases. This is true for people, and for organisations. Perhaps the best we can do is look for media outlets where people with opposing biases say the media is biased against them.

Having worked in advertising for many years, I can say that "special" fonts should be used in moderation, as in a headline or a screamer. I am leaning toward an easy-read front for the rest of the text, where the information contained is more important than the form. Seeing a message written in all Comic Sans - or any other unusual font- tells me that it isn't the work of a professional and that it wouldn't be effective. I'm sure the same people that use all Comic Sans also use all capitals in social media.

I find Comic Sans aesthetically challenging, but here are uses for it. It has been specifically designed to be easily readable, even if you have dyslexia or similar impediments. It does a good job there. Which might also explain its popularity in children's books and comics.

It's mostly hated because it's overused, usually inappropriately, but it is also legitimately flawed; even its original designer wishes he'd done some things differently. An explanation for those who aren't sure: naturally, hair on your limbs grows tapered, meaning that the ends are thinner than the roots, making it seem finer/more sparse. If you cut off those tapered ends, the hair continues to grow at the thickness of its root, with a blunt, often scratchy end, making it appear thicker, darker.

I can concur. After chemo my hair came back very fine and looked almost blonde. After a few cuts it had grown back to normal thickness and looked its natural colour. Slower gowning hair has taken longer to grow back properly and my eyebrows still look blonder because they have the fine uncut tips on most of them.

If it feels thicker or harder it's because the tip of the hair is "sharp" from where the razor cut it off when you shaved. If there's more of it it's just because you're older.

Wheelchairs aren't cheap, and "cheap" wheelchairs are not suitable for everyone, not suitable for hardly anyone in fact. It's not a choice of a £30k wheelchair or a £300 wheelchair, it's a choice between sitting in a chair that fits the needs of the user that enables them to be active in their life, or sitting in an unsupportive seat on wheels that physically harms the person until they're out of it again.

Every wheelchair my brothers had (except the first of my youngest, as he used my eldest's once, once he died, until his own was funded and made) had to be moulded to their shape, and be the correct dimensions for height etc. I never knew the price, as it was all funded by government/non-profit programs, as far as I'm aware. The price depended on how difficult it was to build for their dimensions and abilities. This included the 'extra' features, like tray tables, batteries, storage features etc. The only way we kept the cost down was occasionally my grandad or stepdad was able to fashion something that would 'do the job' to make some features more accessible. For example, adding a rubber or perspex surround on the tray, to stop things flying off when they accidentally knocked them.

Not always. You could even be born on different years. Like these two babies Twin sisters born on different days in different years - ABC News https://goodmorningamerica.com/amp/family/story/twin-sisters-born-days-years-96129703

I remember reading somewhere that one of the worst things you can ask a twin is: 'Where's the other one?' 😂

Just because I work in IT, doesn't mean I KNOW EVERYTHING TECHNOLOGY RELATED. IT IS A VAST FIELD "You work in IT, what phone should I get?" "You work in IT, do u know why this app isn't working" We're not all helpdesk or some sort of phone tech support, I promise.

Rule of thumb: nobody should know you work on IT. Exception: your parents (maybe)

Hell, just because I know one programming language doesn't mean I know every API that goes with it. What it does mean is that I will likely pick it up a lot quicker than someone who doesn't know the language either.

Tax brackets, no Jenny making an extra 5k does not mean the other 50,000 gets taxed at a higher rate. Only money in the higher bracket gets taxed at that rate not all previous money.

... People who barely exceed minimum wage still will vote for someone who "reduces taxes" only for the last bracket there is, because they "get more of their own money then". And just don't get it. That stupid trickle-down scam would not have worked a single day if only those profiting from it would have voted those advertising this betrayal. Crawl-up-economy, OTOH, does work, did so every time it was tried, and even makes sense in theory.

I explained it that way: it's like the faucet and the water. The WiFi is the faucet, the internet is the water. Just because the water is off, doesn't mean the faucet vanishes. The WiFi network is generated by the router in your home. As long as the router works, there's always WiFi. But the water, aka the internet comes to it through the line in the wall, and if there's a disruption, you'll have no internet connection, because the water ran out even though the faucet aka the WiFi net is still there.

This is a very clear explanation. Also, I do not understand it at all.

Try like this: wifi connects your phone to the modem, internet connects your modem to the world. Either one can be on while the other's off...

Routers connect networks. Thats they're intended specific function. Private (home). Public (internet). Routers put the two together.

They do, but it is also possible to have private/private routers and public/public routers. Most domestic routers include a firewall will perform Network Address Traslation (NAT) to allow all the devices in your home to access the Internet from a single IP address.

Evolution isn't about "becoming better", it's simply change over time.

Evolution is not specific to living things either, even though that is often the intended context. Designs also tend to evolve over time, as new information is available, so the 'next generation' of a product offers features or corrects issues learned from the 'previous generation' of product. Computer CPUs, as an example, have evolved dramatically over the past 40 years. Many companies refer to their products by generation, even.

Evolution results from successive mutations, benefiting some individuals over others and allowing them to adapt to changing conditions and successfully reproduce. It is the fruit of past relationships and does not follow a pre-determined path to "betterness." Also, some "neutral" mutations can be passed on for generations until a change in the environment makes them relevant, for better or worse.

oof. No. It's about becoming more able to survive, or less able to die, by means of natural selection (death). IE if you are born, survive, and reproduce, your genes pass on. If however you're born with a feature that enables you to die before breeding, then your genes do not pass on. Simply that.

Depends on your definition of better I suppose. Evolution is meant to make us better at surviving in our specific environment.

No, not "us", but the future of the species. And it isn't in any way "meant", it just happens.

But you cannot blame people for those imaginary situations. If you dream your boyfriend cheated on you, you'll wake up feeling upset. This is not your boyfriend's fault.

I have been known to avoid talking to someone for a day or two after dreaming that they did something that upset me. The feelings are real even if the situation wasn't real, so I give the feelings time to settle instead of treating someone with anger they don't deserve. Same too if someone has said something in real life which unintentionally hurt or upset me because of an experience unrelated to the speaker (assuming it was not actually offensive). I can't stop those feelings arising, but I can try to control how I manage them.

Everyone is entitled to their feelings. But you have to run them through a filter to ensure you act appropriately for others..
