Staying curious and open to new ideas is not only enjoyable but also provides us with a dopamine rush. Whether it’s learning something new about history, science, art, or even modern pop culture, there are many benefits to keeping our brain cells active.
A study by researchers at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business has found that our brains are hungry and always willing to learn new details about the world. Researchers revealed that "new information acts on the brain’s dopamine-producing reward system in the same way as money or food."
I know of a lot (okay, relatively a lot) relationships where one partner is much older than other and they work beautifully. I never cringe about those anymore, though I admit there was a learning curve. The problem in general is with the power structure. It's very easy for a 50 year old (rich, well-connected, and more mature) man to abuse a 20 year old woman who's just starting at life - in terms of finances, opportunities, but also life experiences. Unfortunately a lot of (mostly) men pray on that, and because of this the default reaction to such relationships is usually distrust, until proven that they're equal. That's also why it's less frowned upon when the woman is the older one, because then the power is a little bit more balanced. Thanks for coming to my TED talk, everything written here is my opinion, with no studies behind, and is subject to change.
Anna Banana, everything you've said is true, but put yourselves in the shoes of the non-abusive-Sugar-Daddies: Yes, they likely know, some men use this sort of position to be abusive to the woman, (just as we know that many men use the simple fact of their greater size and strength over the woman to be abusive). But these guys probably find themselves saying: 'Okay, but I'm just gonna, you know, essentially buy her nice things in exchange for sex and company, and I've made it clear she's allowed to exit the situation any time.' And yes, sometimes women abuse men physically and psychologically. But the question is: in the particular case is that necessarily going on?
I don't think I understand the point you're trying to convey. You say "but" like you're presenting a counterargument to what I've said, but I don't disagree with anything in your comment.
Good for him for at least recognising that. In the above, he was 45 and Seymore was 20, 25 years difference. A bit on the lechy side there already, and he went on to do a few more. I blame the franchise, not him. In his last movie at 58, Tanya Roberts was 30, so 28 years difference. Ew. Good for him.
At least he recognized that. God forbid if they cast actress his age, right. As far as I know, Bond ladies were always youger, only exception was Monica Bellucci, who was slightly older than Daniel Craig.
Even though Bellucci is drop-down stunning, fans trashed her for being "old." You know their sorry asses will look like sh*t at her age.
Load More Replies...Honor Blackman was older than Sean Connery. Everyone forgets her even Daniel Craig said Bellucci was first.
It is indeed and noone ever has thought to pick let's say older women? What's this obsession with 20 year olds? Actresses over 30 are only getting roles of wives and mothers but almost never a desirable love interest!
Load More Replies...CbusResident, older men are more likely to produce flawed sperm as they age. Get with the current research and stop blaming women's biology for your crusty old enculturated sexual preferences.
It's not my preferences, it's hetero preferences in general: yes a man being in his 50s is more likely to have flawed sperm, hence there's also some major ageist preference by hetero women for younger men. BUT, the evolutionary reason the ageism is much stronger against older women is the different roles in reproduction. The part men have to fulfill to spread their genes has much lower biological cost to us - we don't have to deal w/ carrying the kid, the birth or breastfeeding. A man can do the deed and run away & still proliferate his genes, whereas the women have to do all of the hard parts to proliferate theirs. Hence in ancient humans, male preference for women aged from teens to 30s would be selected for by survival of the kids in lines where males mated that way. Females who selected males from the teens to the 50s would also be likely to have their kids survive. But for moms over 40, in ancient times...
But for moms over 40 in ancient times, they'd be less likely to conceive in the first place, (and that's true for men too to some degree - our sperm-count gets less viable as we age), and less likely to survive rearing and childbirth. Hence men who mated w/ women over those ages would proliferate fewer offspring that way, hence that trait will tend to be crowded out by the other in the population over time. Also it's worth noting that something like Sugar Daddy's seems to occur in a lot of cultures: an older but prominent man is seen by some females in the society as an acceptable or even desired mate b/c she perceives that his resources increase the chance of survival and thriving of her offspring. Why don't men seem to go for Sugar Mama's as much? B/c her resources won't make up for the biological disadvantages of her age the way the wealthy man's will.
In my opinion, it is because of the patriarchal belief that an attractive woman is only interesting when she is old enough to have sex up until she is unable to have children naturally. Those types of men tend to ignore women outside of these parameters.
This is probably true for many people who don't find the brain the sexiest thing about another person. I'm not saying it's wrong to be most physically attracted based on reproduction potential, but there are certainly people who feel attraction to intellect that's more powerful than what they feel related to reproduction potential.
Superficial relationships typically aren't functional beyond the infatuation stage. Women are much more likely to be attracted to men with 'solid' traits; men are generally looks oriented. People who are attracted to 'brainy' and 'loyal' and 'creative' and 'kind' types are, evolutionarily speaking, evolving away from the cave-man apologia you continue to espouse.
Thank God for that man's lovely awareness of the inappropriateness and refusing to take part in it. Leave that to the creeps who are willing to pander to the perverts.
If only DiCaprio had this kind of integrity when it comes to women
Well at least he acknowledge the fact, and had the decency to do something about it; while walking away from millions of dollars a year. Something I bet many people wouldn't do. Very honorable of him; in my opinion.
"Best" is a stretch. "Most fun" is more accurate.
Load More Replies...Imagine if the genders were reversed. When you see an older woman/ younger man couple on film, she's depicted as pathetic, and he's depicted as using her for her money. Such a stereotype. My second husband was 12 years younger than me, and he certainly didn't marry me for my money (Lol) because I didn't have any.
I disagree. I've always liked older men. The older I get, the older I like them too.
Glad he realized it... way too many in the entertainment industry keep trying to cast couples with age gaps that are downright creepy.
But it's okay for all the rich old men who live out their dreams in the Hollywood movies they make.
Yes, however most men think that getting to be James Bond is idyllic. I don't know how many just love the explosions.
I knew I respected Mr. Moore for a reason. He was my favorite Bond. So cool and classy.
At least disturbing...and the fact that he was willing to walk away from years of work paying millions means he really was prepared to stand by his own high standards. Which makes me respect him.
I always thought of Roger Moore as The Saint. The current James Bond is a scruffy unattractive person, :-(
Wow, it's a rare man these days who has control of his reproductive organ and knows what is inappropriate. Do we still use the word gentleman?
One of my least favorite Bonds. I did enjoy him as Simon Templar, The Saint.
And where are the women Roger's age? Or closer to it. We appreciate a wine that has aged but women? Men with a few gray hairs are distinguished. Experienced. Women, who for some reason are described by what they wear. Name one time you heard President So&So,looking so attractive in his blue blazer and sporting a snappy tie.
Sadly it's still happening today. Women in Hollywood are not allowed to age. :(
In your 50s you are old enough to have somebody in their 20s as your grand-daughter?🤔
unlike actors like tom cruise, who desperately tries to hide that he is almost 60 and still accepts female co-stars who are barely 30
If it happens in real life and they love each other great but stop doing this in films
thankfully he diddn't use the age to his advantage and actually realized it was gross
That show always grossed me out. You'll never see a physically unappealing woman paired up with a young stud. Shows often written by men to cater to the middle aged man's fantasies of being with a younger, more beautiful spouse than they currently have. Women do it too but it's usually in books, not modern technology like tv or movies. Ten years ago you would never have seen a movie with d with Bett Middleton and Brat Pitt.

Or typical of a sugar baby situation, now days many 20 somethings are dating 50 somethings (money and stability have advantages)
If there's grass on the field, and both players are 18 or up and genuinely want to play, then game on!
"To the brain, information is its own reward, above and beyond whether it’s useful,” co-author of the study and associate professor Ming Hsu, Ph.D. told Neuroscience News. “And just as our brains like empty calories from junk food, they can overvalue information that makes us feel good but may not be useful—what some may call idle curiosity.”
However, knowledge usually becomes useful when it’s put into context. While many think that learning cool and interesting facts is a waste of time, it’s quite the opposite. Sure, you can find out everything you need with just a few searches and clicks on hyperlinks but it won't do any good to your critical thinking skills.
Scott H. Young, author of Ultralearning: Accelerate Your Career, Master Hard Skills and Outsmart the Competition, wrote that factual knowledge determines the speed you can acquire new knowledge on a topic. "The more you know, the faster you learn." It also is an important driver of our reading comprehension and other high-level skills, for example problem-solving. When you’re reading a book, it’s much easier to understand the deeper meaning if you’re already familiar with the topic.
"You can’t reason critically or creatively without first having amassed a large amount of factual knowledge," Young explained. "This is why the existence of Google and Wikipedia doesn’t reduce the need to learn facts. Something being a Google search away doesn’t mean it’s available in the background to allow you to parse new information easily."
If you find yourself wanting to expand your mental horizons, the Wall Street Journal bestselling author suggested to simply be curious. By reading more articles and books, and by watching a variety of shows or movies, you always surround yourself with new knowledge. If it's hard to understand everything at first, don’t be discouraged and try to look it up.
Young advised not to be afraid of topics that are new to you: "Knowledge is exponential, so if you’re not used to reading something, you’ll learn a bit less. However, as you read more about it, you can read faster and smarter." So picking up a book that might be "above your level" could take longer but will get easier with time.
Just remember, we are the ones using the newly learned facts and putting them into context. So if you’re wondering whether you’re ever going to use this stuff, one day you actually might. Sometimes, our brains are capable of the most wonderful things, and bringing two completely unrelated ideas into one is certainly one of them.
I'm not a fan of his acting, but Keanu seems to be a genuinely good person.
True, so whatever you do don't think about how they feel when their new babies are taken away and placed in a field where they can still hear each other's cries. I live in the midst of cattle farms, and it's heartbreaking.
Charasmatic megafauna get a lot of attention. There are probably thousands of species that are less likable that are in the same situation.
My kid goes to a Montessori school where students clean up everyday. I think it's a good idea - helps kids feel responsible for their school, which helps them become responsible citizens.
I'm always torn when it comes to things like this. On the one hand, I don't feel like the government should tell us "you can't do that because it isn't good for you". Your not my mom, back off. Sugar isn't good for me either. The last person I dated wasn't good for me. On the other hand, I'm all for the government telling us it's the law to wear a seatbelt, or that my doctor can't smoke crack before he operates on me. And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why I am not a politician. Glad I'm not the one who has to make the decisions on these kinds of things!
I remember watching this on tv with my dad before he passed away. We were so happy for him!
Then I pity those who don't. I have no emotional stability at all
Fun fact: Men who kiss other peoples' wifes befor going to work live an average of 5 years shorter.
That's so sad ☹️. Glad they managed to convince her not to. Not just because she's a celeb, but because she's a human
Several of these so-called "facts" are misleading, unverified rumours, or downright false. Looks like Guff is not a source you can trust. But that might not be surprising coming from a content company that sells "hyper-engagement" and churning out content that is primarily designed to "drive human emotions." 👎
Well, 'guff' is olde slang for 'nonsense, lies, baloney' so the veracity of these assertions is to be doubted. Sez so right on the label.
But is your fact about Guff a fact? Or is it a double bluff? Is your source verified and reliable? The truth is out there…… 😀
I very much welcome this addition. Extra, easy to access context is always a boon.
Load More Replies...I would say most of these "facts" are full of crap! They have no proof of what they are saying and most of them are so ridiculous that I had to stop scrolling.
But i find the news here interesting and sometimes double check on other sites to verify it if its legit
This is the type of post I like... I get so disappointed when the title of a post is awesome but then you open it and it's nothing but words... pictures add a little pizazz especially when it refers to a person or place so that way you can get a better idea of what it looks like...
This was surprisingly sad, but I'm happy to have seen it. If you don't tear up Googling "Pocho crocodile funeral", you're not really living.
In scrolling through answers a lot of down votes were given if the interesting facts were not interesting and it was so stated!
