If there’s one thing the digital age has taught us, it’s that nothing disappears from the internet. Everyone keeps receipts of past social media activity in some form, a few of which may bite back in the future.

That’s where the Facepalm subreddit comes in. This online group collects screenshots of people’s posts worthy of the spotlight of shame, some from public figures. 8.3 million members keep the page alive with tweets and replies showing how questionably some people’s minds work.

Go ahead and see for yourself. Here’s a compilation of the images that stood out to us. Some may shake your faith in humanity, so proceed with caution.

How you’re perceived online carries the same weight as your reputation in real life. If anything, the former is a highly valuable currency in the current age of technology.

According to the Pew Research Center, 91% of people tend to believe what they gather from search engine results. The Edelman Trust Barometer also found that 65% of people believe these results more than any other source.

Yeah, people would tell me they can't breathe with a mask on because "asthma". I'd then ask "so, where's your inhaler? I have asthma, I wear a mask and carry mine in my purse". I generally got a blank look or they'd walk off.

Enter online reputation management. As the name suggests, it’s the process of monitoring and influencing the narrative of how people see your brand. Your goal is to find the balance between positive and negative feedback.

Online reputation management is necessary for companies as it can impact a person’s buying decisions. Recent surveys found that 60% of consumers would avoid purchasing from a brand that may appear “untrustworthy.”

Having a reputable image online isn’t only applicable to distinguished public figures. A random Twitter user lost her NASA internship after posting a profanity-laced tweet.

According to the story posted by Norton’s Reputation Defender, the post got the attention of former NASA engineer Homer Hickam, who is also on the National Space Council. The person apologized, but it isn’t clear if NASA reinstated her internship.

Proactive participation is one way to achieve a stellar online reputation. As digital marketing expert Tripp Donnelly wrote in an article for Forbes, lurking on social media platforms is no longer a smart move.

“Participation means more than just having a profile,” Donnelly stated, adding that analyzing online interactions can also help understand the audience for more effective communication.

Many make the mistake of prioritizing self-promotion whenever they are online. It makes them seem unnatural, which can turn off their audience. People gravitate toward a genuine human connection, and excessive self-glorification takes that away.

As Donnelly notes, constant positive engagement leads to more meaningful relationships, albeit digital ones. It can also significantly improve one’s presence on social media and search engines.

We’d like to hear your thoughts, dear readers. What do you attribute these head-scratching posts to? Are people just that misinformed? Let us know in the comment boxes below!

It wasn't ordered by congress tho. It was passed by the state, which have surprising latitude in the constitution (see legal weed). The feds can still put a stop to it, but won't if the reds take control of legislative branch again this year. It'll come down to the court, which is equally as hopeless.

No problem, as a teacher of Catholic Religion (and a Catholic myself) I'm full qualified in teaching the Bible: - The creation mythology - The various legends of the flooding the world - Historically arguments against the reality of Exodus - The limited kingdom of David - The formation of the Bible and the sacerdotal manipulations - The historical parts (mainly during the Hellenistic period) - Jesus and the "Love Everyone" revolution. (Did you notice the abundance of red and stars in the JC images?)

Wasn’t there some new proposed requirement that the Bible being used for these classes must also include the Constitution, the Pledge of Allegiance, be bound with a leather-esque cover, etc. - in short, literally the only Bible that qualifies is (by sheer coincidence, I’m sure) the Trump Bible?

The Bible is one of the worst written books I have ever read through. Just an incredible amount of nonsensical material. To think so many people lack any kind of real life and spend their days pouring though that book looking for a few passages that make sense just so they can judge others and make themselves feel superior.

It is a dangerous game to just "teach the Bible". You actually have to study rigourously to understand even short passages, let alone how you translate the meaning of it to kids and their modern lives. In the Netherlands we have expert teachers teaching religion in a lot of high schools, also not Christian ones. You really understand the world better if you know what people around you believe. And it makes a lot of art, movies and tv shows better.

This made the list and yet states pass all kinds of laws that affect every person who lives there or passes through their borders and yet can be found to be illegal on any number of reasons. Just look at seatbelt laws. 100% invasion of privacy. It's no one's business if I'm wearing. Look at the states that legalized marijuana. It's still illegally federally. And now there's countless people driving high because the state allows it.

So that the general public have no clue when a dangerous storm is coming and life continues as normal until they die? Allow them to die and decrease the surplus population. It’s not real if nobody knows right?

I have no issue with it at all. My niece is now my nephew. He's happy now, and that's all that matters. Just let people be what they want to be. If they're not acting in a way that hurts anyone, then... it's no problem?

If the US government could manipulate the weather, they would use it in wars. Not on Disneyworld.

The whole US election system is in dire need of an update. This is absolutely bonkers. The registering thing alone. When we haven an election here, I'll get mail from the government reminding me, telling me when and where to cast my vote. We don't have to register.

She seems like a decent person. She was surprised by being launched into the spotlight but is trying to make the most of her 15 minutes of fame to do good. That being said, I am absolutely sick of that meme.
