The Halloween tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people used to light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. So I guess nothing says 'Happy Halloween!' like something that scares you to death and makes you forget the world is celebrating in the first place.

Bored Panda decided to pay tribute to those who go above and beyond to create the right atmosphere for this spooky occasion. Whether it's an extremely gory massacre scene or a subtle, half-buried body bag, these Halloween displays were so next-level, some people thought there actually was something wrong and called the police to investigate. When You Go "Too Far" With The Halloween Decorations

When You Go "Too Far" With The Halloween Decorations

Capinron Report

Texas resident Steven Novak is one of the people who went all out for Halloween this year. In his yard, one dummy lies with his head pulverized, one lies with a scale where his or her head used to be, and a few more lie in bloodied trash bags fallen off a wheelbarrow. All the while, in the window of the house, a zombie horde attempts to break out.

"I'm most proud of the wheelbarrow tipped over by the street full of Hefty bags, looking like a failed attempt to dispose of the dismembered bodies in the middle of the night," Novak told Dallas Observer. "A kid walked by and asked me what happened to them; I said they ate too many Skittles."

How much are some people ready to spend just for one day in the year?!

Novak's decorations have brought the police to his house multiple times. "Neighbors told me cop cars were in front of my house a lot during the day," he explained. "I was only home twice to receive them. They told met hey thought it was cool and that they were only there because they were required to reply to complaints from the sergeant."

"They were in formation at the door and when I opened it they asked me if it was all mine. I asked, 'You mean the blood and the bodies? Yeah, that’s me.'"

"Honestly, though, I think I could’ve used more. [My plans] were way worse on paper. Next year though!"

Yeah it's cool and it surely took a lot of dedication. Still there are also kids living in everyone's neighborhood. I know kids who were scared as hell when I opened the door last year wearing a clearly fake knife going "through" my head. You always got to think of what it could do to others.

It’s not epic, I’m serious. Think about kids in the neighborhood who would see blood everywhere. Think of the trauma it would cause. I wish I got here before you got 127 upvotes from other people who don’t understand this either. My friend’s neighbor pulled something like this. It’s been almost 10 years since and she still hates Halloween.

Kids shouldn't be out alone anyway, so if there's an adult with them, they'd make sure to show them that it's not real. A little bit of parental responsibility is not too much to ask. And yes, it's disgusting, but in comparison to scary killer-clowns, I think this would probably be less traumatizing to a lot of kids just because it's so obviously overdone.

What do you mean by "kids"? If you mean people under 8 years old or so, then maybe you could say they can't be out alone. However, if you are including people age 8 and older, you are obviously overprotective. Parents who think they are keeping their child "safe" are actually just restraining their childrens' rights to explore and learn on their own.

Not necessarily. It’s well over the top, and too much, but that doesn’t necessarily say anything about the people living there (other than they find horror funny). “Horror fans” aren’t necessarily “angry” people. They might just not be good at sensitivity. That’s a problem throughout human civilization, especially where people are pressured into needing to act invulnerable... like on the Internet.

People who act like nothing is too much for a joke, and who don’t think anyone should ever be sensitive. It doesn’t mean they’re necessarily bad people. They’ve probably spent a lot of their lives being bullied into being desensitized, or have hardened into “invulnerability”. Comedians often have this issue (comedy being a defense mechanism, and they sometimes lose grip on the scope of what is and is not funny).

The cultural fascination with zombies itself isn’t without concerns, for me. “The Walking Dead” is basically unnecessary trauma/conflict porn, with fantasy monsters on the side. But the obsession with zombies in general kinda seems like people want an excuse to slaughter human beings. So they dehumanize them into walking corpses. Then there’s the antisocial fantasies of civilization falling apart and people just “doing whatever they want”. Survivalists love that s**t and survivalists are f*****g creepy people looking for an excuse for their gun collection and hard-ass antisocial behavior to be “justified”.

How could anyone come up with this stuff and not be very mentally sick? Look through all the mega years of thousands of insane men and women who seemed on the surface to be a “good person “ and turned out to be a killer, also, being a sociopath there are just too many to count and, have you had anyone in your family realm that is bi-polar ? I have 4 half sisters that are way crazy without their meds who, are very dangerous people that I stay completely away from now. Thank you again!

It’s definitely too much. There’s a line, but most people fail to agree on where to draw it. The fact that torture porn, gore porn, and murder porn are common forms of “entertainment” in our society says that many people take it very far. Too far, I think. I also think we manufacture this kind of personality by pushing people to become desensitized and “invulnerable” with our toxic culture of bullying and pressure to perform beyond human tolerances.

He might be one of those “nothing is too far or too much for a joke” kind of people, but that’s absolutely no reason to presume he’s a psychopath. Some people become desensitized to horror s**t, and fans of it, but wouldn’t ever hurt other living beings. Don’t judge people on their tasteless humor alone.

Yes! Was just about to comment something like this. I think this is so obviously over-the-top that it would be easy to make children understand that it's not real. Kids aren't idiots, people! They understand more than you think. For example, they understand that a person lurking in the bushes is scarier and more dangerous than corpses out on the front-lawn.

Marlowe, you might be right about that but the thing is that LITTLE kids don’t understand. My god, they’re scared of a mall santa. The thing is, there’s there is so much violence in the US why make this a “fun” tableau? To force on everyone? Halloween isn’t about horrific death, it’s about gremins and goblins and things like that.

I have to say that these bother me. They’re not fun or funny to me. My grandfather was murdered in his front yard ( I’m not joking) so it’s actually kind of painful to see. We have so much violence here that this just seems weird to me.

And this is one of the reasons there are so many guns in America. Entertainment is so often focused on violence, blood, and gore that people get convinced they need to defend themselves. Humans are weird.

Americans are especially weird, comparing to other first-world nations. That’s me speaking as an American. The gun issue is particularly f****d up, but our laissez-faire capitalism is probably worse, and it’s actually what drives the strongest push of pro-gun propaganda. There seems to be a collective craving for excuses to kill other humans, and that comes out in our country’s fiction trends as much as in our gun culture. Then there’s the f****d-up Christian anti-sex bullshit that oppresses and bullies the most basic & fundamental human impulse (one which is a great stress-reliever)...

People who don’t think that anything should be off-limits for jokes & fun, as long as no one is actually getting physically harmed. These people often disbelieve in emotional violence, or like to prescribe to others about how sensitive they shouldn’t be.

Wow. I applaud the creativity of this one, but I think it's a bit TOO realistic for the public neighbourhood - where you have very young kids going past! There's a reason crime and horror films have age ratings on for all the gore, but this guy is just sticking it all out on his front lawn... Halloween is meant to be spooky, not downright traumatising!

Its like all the whiners on the neighborhood facebook who ended up blocked because they couldnt quit griping about how 4th of july fireworks keep their kids awake at night. Boo hoo. I work night shift. Do you hear me griping about lawn mowers or construction outside my door at noon? No. Let people celebrate the way they want to. Some will appreciate it, some - obviously - will not. If you're that worried about it, shield your kid from the experience... or better yet, show them that there is nothing to fear.

Because they don’t have a sense of taking things too far, or it really goes way beyond the average. A fan of horror movies, likely, and also likely a person who’s been acculturated into the “everything can be funny” and “I’m not sensitive” trend in human culture. We don’t all agree on the line, but a lot of us can agree that this display isn’t a tasteful one for mixed audiences.

Not all of us go this way. There’s a TON of pressure to be “invulnerable” and “not sensitive”, which turns into being callous and insensitive. The culture is sick, but not all the people are willingly part of the problem.

"Insensitive" actions are technically a matter of perspective. Is it not also insensitive to persecute another person or group's form of creative expression or celebration just because it does not mirror that which is your own? Or that which "society" deems fitting of a mold? We all have our own unique sets of emotional triggers and beliefs; truth be told, it is nearly impossible to find a means of self expression which will not offend one other single person. What makes one perspective more valuable than another? Societal norms? Why should it be so acceptable that only one portion of society is allowed to have their perspective affirmed while others must simply fall in line? I personally enjoy the display's depth of detail and creativity. But because people with kids or emotional triggers are socially "more important," my perspective becomes irrelevant. Likewise, my enjoyment of activities may be ruined by noisy or disruptive kids but I have to keep my mouth shut.

Yes because mass murder is displayed on the lawn in real life. Or was it because people were offended and have a giant stick up their karen ass.

Okay but like, do people think the "evidence" would just be lying out in the open for everyone to see if something like this did occur?

Uh well back in 2020 people would state a Karen as a person that was overly complaining and wanted to see the manager over simple things....RACISM is harassment over a RACE, but I know Karen is in face a language but no one means it as that. So, sorry if you were confused about that but don’t copy paste dictionary pages about it please.

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France. They celebrated their new year on November 1.

This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead got blurred.

In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Celtic priests to predict the future. Considering the Celts were entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies must've been really comforting in the face of a long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, the priests built huge sacred bonfires, where everyone would gather to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically made of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's fortunes.

Who knows, Maybe Novak has some Celtic blood? Either way, his display sure looks like a modern version of the old celebration.

Maybe people need to just put a sign out next to some of these saying "Happy Halloween" so people know what to think.
