I’m Exploring My New Home, Canada, Through Photography

Hi! I’m Victor. I’m in the process of moving from the small, flat and heavy populated but cosy country of Belgium to the giant, beautiful and not so populated country of Canada.

About a year ago I bought my first camera. I’ve been exploring my new home through it, trying to improve my photography along the way.

I feel like I still have loads and loads to learn, but here’s a sample of what I’ve captured so far in my first year of photography and transitioning.

Holy Moly, these are amazing shots. It's not the camera you are using, you could be using a 1950's brownie. It's your eye & incredible talent for composition. Keep up your exploring, and snap away:)

This is my backyard. Yet, as I've experienced much of it first hand, you've still managed to capture a beauty that I haven't even seen! I'm thoroughly impressed. Although, when you live in a place, you do take for granted it's beauty. Still, Kananaskis is foremost my backyard and I'm still in love with it. I'm so impressed by your vision and your photos! We do live in a gorgeous natural sanctuary.

Thanks so much! And that's true I guess.. It's important to just get out there and experience it, because it's easy to take it for granted :) so many beautiful places to see in Kananaskis!

Your pictures are stunning! May I ask what camera you use, any advice for a novice to get started? Cheers from New Zealand

Camera and lenses are in a comment above. As for advice: I'm just a newbie myself so I don't know if I'm the right person for that :D

Oh, thank you for this! :D My mom is currently moving from the Netherlands to Canada, but she fails sending me any pictures ..except for the raccoon that comes up to her house daily :p So these pictures kinda made me feel a bit closer to her haha :) Where in Canada is this? (I moved from the Netherlands to Belgium a year ago .. Belgium feels more like home to me, though I can understand why you'd move to Canada)

Thanks a lot! Most of them are shot either with the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens or the Nikor 18-200mm :)

These photos are amazing, and so are the places you've been visiting. I would really like to use some of these photos as wallpapers, is there anywhere where I could download them in high resolution? Even if watermarked, i don't mind :D

Victor, you're making a great start with your new passion. Welcome to Canada, such a beautiful country. Could you please add some info to your images? It's really nice to know the location, the time of year, and some of your exposure data. These are the things that would mark your official entry into the world of shared photography. Keep up your work and your images will get even better.

Love these photos, but that last one is truly special! Hope you printed it and put it up on the wall. Next time I go up there, I need to make that hike to Mt Assiniboine!

gorgeous shots of Lake Agnes & the tea house! I did the hike years ago back in high school. I had some pretty yummy lapsang souchong tea and a vegetable soup that soothed the soul! I hope you get the chance to go back in the fall when the tamarack trees are a blazing yellow.
