The subreddit 'Choosing Beggars' has over 2.4 million members posting examples of people being way too picky when asking for things. And a popular group among these scrooges who routinely go viral within the community is parents.
Some expect their kid's school nurse to treat them too. Others use their little ones for bargaining power during the holiday season. It's as if there are no limits to their insolence.
So if you're interested in seeing how low can parents go, continue scrolling and meet the worst moms and dads we could find on 'Choosing Beggars.' (I'm pretty sure they can even make you appreciate your own folks a bit more.)

For those of us who have to deal with toxic parents, the consequences can be devastating. Consciously or unconsciously, we may:
- Be unable to move on from the past and fail to build a happy present for ourselves;
- Be emotionally unavailable as adults and therefore unable to sustain intimate relationships;
- Harbor insecurities into adulthood about whether we deserve to be loved or nurtured, and sabotage opportunities we get;
- Find ourselves at times responding similarly as parents to our own children, and therefore perpetuating the cycle of emotional pain;
- Feel suicidal regardless of how much we have achieved in adult life.

So how can you break free from the shackles of a troubling emotional past, especially when the triggers (the parents) are still part of your present life?
While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, social worker and therapist Imi Lo suggests starting by acknowledging our anger.
"Ultimately, we need to reconcile with the deep disappointment of not having our desired relationship with a parent," Lo said. "However, the first step to liberating oneself from the past is to acknowledge the tragic nature of events and understand that there is a place for legitimate anger. Just because we recognize we have been failed and have a natural emotional reaction does not mean we unproductively point the finger or blame anyone."

Purple Is Looking For Free Christmas Gifts For Her Infant- But Suggestions Are “Not Worth It”
I remember this really cute video were parents gave their toddler a single banana in a nice wrapper as a prank... And that toddler showed the world such pure joy about their banana that everyone should learn from that how to be grateful about gifts! They were so happy about that banana, it was heartwarming. They ran away with it and didn't even want to see the 'real gift'. This person is so pathetic. For toddlers and little children the ability to unwrap the gifts and the joy of Christmas is so much more and so pure. They don't need expensive gifts. They just need the attention and some sparkle.

Then, we can try talking about the hurt. "Talking to your parents about aspects of your childhood that have caused lingering emotional hurt can prove to be one of the most powerful and healing conversations to have," Lo explained.
"Perhaps as adults, you can begin to see the children inside your parents and see that they were once young and helpless."
Just be aware that this strategy is not always possible. "Some parents are more defensive and might never acknowledge what they have done. On some level, they know they had failed you and that the feeling of guilt probably makes them more defensive," she added.

The next step is setting boundaries. "You can exercise assertiveness and set firm boundaries with your parents. As a child, you could not escape the family home or build a wall to defend yourself. But as an independent adult, you have the ability to say no, walk away, and minimize contact."
Lo said that at first, doing so often feels uncomfortable. Our parents are likely to resist the change by criticizing and guilt-tripping us. But we can find a way to tell them we need to be treated with respect, and they can no longer influence important decisions in our life.

Finally, we should love ourselves and believe in our worthiness. "At the end of the day, you want to be able to cross over the bridge of resentment and move to a place of peace," Lo said.
"But however cliche this sounds, you need first to love yourself, embracing both the good and the bad, your ability to love and your rage towards others. You must forgive yourself for your inability to forgive. You are a survivor for being here today. You deserve to live without emotional baggage."

Wow This Dude Trying To Use The Single Parent Card
I was a single mom who had to scrape and save and penny pinch for months to get my son good gifts. Maybe dont buy cigarettes, booze, skip getting your nails and eyebrows done for a while (not referring to this dude specifically), put off buying that new shirt. So often I see women crying about how they have no money, but nice fake nails and tattooed eyebrows you have there.

When we open our hearts to the possibilities of tomorrow, we gradually find that we are no longer weighed down by experiences of the past.
"With a conscious approach to handling the anger you feel towards your parents, you can finally start to repair your relationship with them and hopefully build the foundation for mutual respect and understanding," Lo said.
We can't fix our parents (or their image on the internet if they end up on a subreddit like 'Choosing Beggars') but we can limit the amount of crap we take from them.

Tax Free Clothing Isn't Enough For This Single Mom
Actually, Maryland has a tax free week every year right before school opens, but it does have limits of how much things cost and what is tax free (like, no more than $40 for a backpack). I actually think that this is what this crazy person is complaining about.

My husband and I have lived on minimum wage all the way to where we are now. We have ALWAYS lived below our means. People complain about being poor all of the time, but they are out buying food, getting nails, buying clothes, going to concerts etc. -- it is beyond ridiculous. And people expect random strangers to bail them out.
Nowadays with the gas prices ppl with 2 incomes, who earn more than me, go to the food bank. They have a huge house and a car. Yeah I had no cent either when I had a house. Time to get rid of the car and rent a 1 bedroom apt for the whole family.
Load More Replies...How are so many parents bargain shopping for cheap childcare? You'd think you might actually want to splurge a little and get someone expensive and well referenced since you're trusting them with your supposedly precious children.
I'd rather just leave the kids home alone tbh. This is how they did it during communism, when both parents worked and people couldn't afford nannies. Sounds much safer than leaving kids with some dude you spoke to for a few hours
Load More Replies...Half of those people should get their kids taken away. Not to punish the parents but to save the children from being raised to the same nitwits.
This post just reinforces my absolute disdain and disgust in the human race and that 99.8% of people out there are just completely intolerable.
