According to Freud, infants have an innate tendency to be self-centered. The main basic, evolutionary instinct of humans is to protect themselves and survive. In order to do so, the brain has to be 'selfish’ and largely concerned about itself. But as we grow up, we start to realize that not everything revolves around us, and our self-centeredness starts to decline.

Unfortunately, not all people grow out of it, and the I’m the Main Character online community is proof of that. It’s dedicated to shaming individuals who can’t help but just want to be the center of attention by shining even more spotlight on them. If you ask me, there’s no better way to help the entitled Karens come back down to earth.

Shocked

Shocked

I was on a trip to the United Kingdom. I am a Canadian and was more than glad to see the recognition for our contribution in the world wars and especially since 10% of our population served in the second. I was absolutely stunned by what I saw at the Canadian war memorial. I didn’t say a word but should I have? It’s a memorial paying respect to thousands of Canadians (usually in their early 20s) who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and liberation of a occupied Europe.

External-Quote3263 Report

As the subreddit name suggests, the behavior of these people on the list falls under the term main character syndrome. It’s a fairly new colloquial definition used to describe someone who sees themselves as the main protagonist in a movie called ‘Life’ and always needs the spotlight on them.

Even though the word ‘syndrome’ is part of its name, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s not an actual syndrome or a medical diagnosis. The term originated on social media and is colloquially used to describe people with narcissistic or self-centered tendencies.

Generally, someone with the main character syndrome exhibits dramatic behaviors, overdramatizes life events, feels like they’re better than other people, and has a lot of outward confidence that might hide underlying insecurities. Additional ones include romanticizing experiences or relationships, constantly seeking validation from social media, and needing to outshine others.

I can see the logic of #2, as if they parked with the rear flush to the kerb, the front of the vehicle would be obstructing the roadway. However I have little to no sympathy with people that own such stupid oversize vehicles and would rather simply weren't allowed to park there at all.

OK. I know y'all all hate big trucks. But lemme explain. I have a Ram 1500 with a 6' bed and a 4door cab. Why? Because I frequently haul things, like garbage and lumber and bicycles and kayaks and stuff. I have a 4-door cab because I have a kiddo, and he's safer in the backseat, and also so that I can fit my partner and his son in the truck, too. I have one vehicle because I can only afford 1 vehicle, so it has to work for everything. Parking spaces are getting smaller and trucks are getting bigger. I can't really help either of those things. So my truck doesn't fit in some parking spaces. When my option is to either hang out in the front of the parking lot, blocking the 'aisle' or back up to the curb, I back up to the curb. If I can find a spot that doesn't block another spot or a sidewalk, I choose that one. But sometimes I don't have a choice. And so I have to be the a*****e because I can't shrink my truck or grow the parking space.

In #2 the space the blue car is in has a kerb in the spot to prevent a car going too far into it, is it possible the truck driver assumed that there was one in their spot too and that is what they felt their wheels touching? No excuse for #1 though.

Possible. Also parking bay might be too small for a truck that size so the option was to either block the sidewalk or part of the road. Not saying it's right to block the sidewalk, but sometimes it might not be deliberate

TBF in the first pic, it seems as though the space to exit the car in space 116 is very, very minimal, and parking backwards would prevent the diver from exiting without bumping the door into the wall.

#1 might be assigned both of those spots. I pay rent for both of mine, and if I don't double park, someone else takes one, and then my guests have nowhere to park. Besides, I find it incredibly rude to take someone else's assigned spot without permission. You wouldn't park in someone's driveway would you? Would you walk into a stranger's house and watch their TV? So, I block mine partially on principal and partially for practical reasons.

So with #2, if you dive a vehicle with a longer chassis (which I presume is the case here)- is it preferable to have the rear of the car overhang a sidewalk, or the bonnet stick out into traffic? Either way, someone will complain.

I mean, is that really people's problematic behavior or a whole host of things failing us at once? This man clearly needs to have his truck for work, and also what about the company or whoever owns those spaces for trying to pack a ton of cars into a tiny space knowing vehicles of all sizes exist. This also doesn't seem to be a southern thing, lived in both Carolinas and Florida and I've only seen the first problem. The taking up sidewalk space, never (not including utility trucks needing to gain access to them to fix things.) I can imagine in more densely packed areas or is an issue more but still a combo of things to make number 2 shiznitty.

Sheriff says that in our county you’re allowed to park on the outer 8 feet of someone else’s lawn for a day or two without their permission because it’s considered the shoulder. Come back to the same spot as many times as you want, just don’t be there continuously. You probably don’t have the right to kill someone else’s vegetation but I can’t prove it was him.

Experts say that viewing yourself as a main character can be healthy. However, like most things, it should be taken advantage of in moderation. VanderBosch explained that developing confidence and owning one’s life choices can be the positive effects of this syndrome. But when it causes people to hurt others with their self-absorbed behavior, it becomes unhealthy. If a person centers themselves too much and expects the world to revolve around them, they are stepping into destructive territory.
