Animal Shelter Celebrates Their Happiest Day Ever Because All Kennels Are Empty
133Kviews
“What happens when your last available dog gets adopted? Your staff and volunteers jump into the kennels to celebrate!” one happy animal shelter staff member posted on Monday. The Humane Society Of The Pikes Region in Colarado launched a very successful adoption campaign titled “Bring Them Home For The Holidays”. They made sure adoption fees are waived on all cats and dogs 5 years and up, for the period starting 18 December through New Year’s Eve. This made it more attractive for those considering adopting a pooch or a kitty, and gave pets a Christmas miracle of a loving forever home. This is something to celebrate indeed, knowing that 31 percent of dogs in shelters end up being euthanized.
According to the shelter, they adopted out 25 cats and 23 dogs as of Monday, but the kindhearted staff and volunteers won’t be stopping anytime soon. “We’ll have more dogs available later tonight or tomorrow. Keep those adoptions coming!”.

Share on FacebookI’m so glad to see that all of the dogs and cats found a home. :) It also must be a large animal shelter because there are a lot of employees and volunteers in the picture. :) But the fact that 31 percent of the dogs were euthanized is disgusting number to hear, I know that the employees and volunteers probably tried their best to find the animals homes, but 31 percent is to close to 1/2 (50%) for me. I think that people should look into an animal shelter before they go looking for breaded (and sometimes inbred) pets online. No matter what religion or beliefs a person might have probably over 99% of us can agree ALL life is precious and must be preserved.
More like 1 out of 3 are euthanized, but I agree its sad. I'm not sure about other states, but when adopting from a shelter where I live, its state law that the pet is neutered are spayed. Keeping strays from breeding helps solve the issue too, and a lot of pet owners are irresponsible when that comes to that, which perpetuates so many issues.
Load More Replies...Seriously?! I look in the comments and it's all about animal euthanasia! Be happy people that there are pets that actually found a home!!!
They aren't being negative about the fact that the animals got adopted though. They are simply stating facts. All they are saying is lets hope these animals keep getting adopted
Load More Replies...I have volunteered in an animal shelter and it is sad when they return animals. Hopefully this will not be the case.
I got my cat around Christmas and the shelter was adamant that it wasn't a gift because gift pets have a high return rate and the whole adoption-unadoption process can be very stressful. Their kennels could be full again in a week :( I'm very glad that they made push for the 5+ yr old pets.
I wish every cat and dog finds their own forever home filled with so much warmth and love.
Ok well done....... but keep going. Dogs waiting for homes allllll over. Let's go go go go
I hope they don't get returned after the holidays like so many animals do. Also, it's Colorado not Colarado.
This is good to hear but I hope everyone had to fill out an application first and all information was verified
I think it's amazing that an animal shelter is empty and not for any cruelty reasons.
Im so happy all of these fur babies found a home for the holidays. May their adoptees remember that bringing home a pet is supposed to be forever not just until the amusement wears off and they can't " provide them with the proper attention they deserve" and return them to a shelter. Who doesn't love a new pet at Christmas. Especially when it is free! I just pray these are all loving fur-ever homes.
No, most of those people in the pic are "volunteers." Which means they donate their time, caring for all the animals and they don't get paid. I, myself volunteer at my local shelter as often as possible! My local shelter is a "No Kill" shelter, so we have over 100 dogs and cats at all times 99% of the time. Even though I work very hard there and spend a lot of my time volunteering, it fills my heart with so much love taking care of all the sweet animals that just want to be loved, cared for and be placed in a "fur-ever home." So, to me, that's all the "payment" I need/want, after donating my time. It's a very fulfilling "job" to me. I love it! Thankfully, we also have a local vet that is kind enough to also "donate" her time once a week and spend the day doing spay & neuter surgeries. We spay and neuter all our shelter animals that come in. It just helps in the long run, cutting down on unnecessary breeding and more puppies or kittens that will most likely end up at the shelters too!
Load More Replies...when you give animals away for free, just to find homes..my flags go up...Who's getting this innocents? If they're going out for free they're not being investigated. They could be going to abusive homes,
I also worry about that... especially around the holidays! Soooooooo many dogs and cats get adopted as "gifts" and it's like, when the people realize the responsibility that comes with owning a dog or cat, they just end up returning the animal back to the shelter, treating the animals like they were some store bought present they didn't like and they want a refund.. it's terrible and heartbreaking to think of but it's the cold hard truth and it's just what happens around this time of year! I just hope & pray that all the adopted animals at that shelter, went to loving, caring "fur-ever" homes!!

31 per cent of dogs in shelters, does not necessarily mean this shelter. It's clear they do a lot to see that their furbabies find furever homes.
That's an average of shelters. How do you feel about 87% of cats being killed in shelters? All these numbers need to change. This shelter is making a good start <3
