Hi Everyone! Our names are Karla and Fabricio and we are Lisbon, Portugal-based creatives behind the Rebordação Handmade Embroidery project. Through our creative embroidery hoop art, our mission is to create “embroideries to make your day a little happier and funny.” From Van Gogh to Britney Spears, many well-known figures are represented in our work.

*Rebordação is a four-hand project! We're a couple and we've lived together for the past 10 years. We work together on everything, starting from the design, creation, and even down to the needlework! We always had a passion for Embroidery and Design, and back in 2017, we decided to leave our regular full-time jobs in Brazil (we're Brazilians), and to start this project in Lisbon, Portugal. I (Fabricio) was an auto mechanic, and my wife (Karla) has a degree in philosophy.

Also, just to note, in case you are wondering, *Rebordação is a mix between the Portuguese words: Recordação (Remembrance) + Bordado (Embroidery) = Rebordação!

When talking about our main influence, well, we had the acid-type sense of humor from some Brazilian cartoonists, like Millôr Fernandes and Larte, and when it comes to hand embroidery… all skills were acquired from our grandmothers!

It usually takes 3 to 6 hours to complete a fully finished piece (only the handwork, not the idea). Most of our ideas for the work we do come from the daily life dramas that we live through and observe at the same time. And to be honest, creative work can be quite a lot, and the burnout we feel is also quite common, at least 2-3 times a week, we’d say

When it comes to people’s reactions to our work, well, there’s no middle ground - they either hate it or love it, no in-between. Though, our idea for the Instagram account came when we observed other embroidery pages. We decided to start an Instagram account after seeing so many embroidery accounts with no humor, just flowers and what one would call "grandmother" stuff.

Before embroidery, we've tried acrylic painting as well. But we hated doing the laundry as our clothes were always stained by paint and such, haha.
