I can often laugh at dark humor, but this isn't it. Either these people are ignorant, or they truly think it's okay to co-opt a theme of rape to announce their pregnancy. Probably both. It's sick. Editing to add: this is not the only couple to do this kind of announcement. Google "Handmaid's Tale birth announcement". A couple, from Florida, no less, were completely astounded at the negative reaction, and couldn't understand why people wouldn't like it. 🙄

In Atwood's novel, women exist only as passive vessels of rape for their male owners, and their male owners' wives. They have no identity but through those male owners, so their names are Offred, Ofglen, Of-Their-Owner. They are raped repeatedly to be forced into pregnancy, to bear children for their owner and his wife. This is literally the future that Conservatives want and we are two short steps away from it, thanks to the overturning of abortion laws. If you think that's hyperbole, pull your head out of your a*s and GO EFFING VOTE, DAMMIT.

The Handmaid's Tale is a TV series (and movie) based on Margaret Atwood's novel about a dystopic future. I don't want to describe it here, other than to say the hats worn by the Handmaids in the show narrow their vision and obscure their faces (as seen here).

Hey BoredPanda can we please stop with these shaming articles? They are cruel and flat out nasty. Please don't start going the route of Buzzfeed. You have good writers, editors, and artists on this site-- use them to your advantage! Most of these are just silly family inside jokes. (Yes, I do agree that some our flat out gross and cringey) I thought that this website used to promote "feel good listicles" and promote the artwork of new artists.

100% agree with Random Panda, the vast majority of these were perfectly fine. Yeah there was a handful that made you wish chemical sterilization was still a thing. But overall, good stuff.

One thing I can’t get out of my head with these [and the wedding ones], is that it’s so weird we feel entitled to criticize other people[most who we don’t know]’s happiness on the internet & call it ‘entertainment’. Some of these are awful but a lot of them are just in-jokes and are fine. I scrolled through the whole thing so I’m part of this problem but it’s simultaneously bizarre af.
