Dying Puppy Wags Her Tail As Rescuers Approach

This poor dog was suffering from a fatal disease – canine distemper – and was left to die by the side of the road in Udaipur, India. However hopeless the situation, the pooch still had faith. She used her last bits of strength to wag her tail in affection towards the rescuers that approached her.

The pooch was found by the members of Animal Aid Unlimited, an animal rescue center. They took the dog and treated her for 14 days with antibiotics and IV fluids. Luckily, soon she began to eat and walk again. Now she wags her tail with joy!

Couldn't agree more. Some of us are just so cruel. We are such a powerful creature in this planet and we invade most things, if not already everything.

That's the second time I've seen a dog survive distemper! The first was on Animal Planet (one of their vet shows - the one in Colorado). A littter of puppies came in - only one was sick at first (convulsions and all) - but soon they all were. Of the litter of I think 7 pups, just one survived - but they said the fact that ANY survived was a real miracle. -------------- So apparently, distemper, as horrible as it is, does not have to be fatal. If you're willing to put in the time (and money), the dog does have a fighting chance. But even if there were no chance, leaving that pup to die on the street (instead of being comforted by someone's loving arms) is pathetic and horrible. Whoever put that pup out there has no heart!!!

Indians don't throw away their animals. There are very few indians who have dogs. All the dogs u see are strays who were born on the streets for 1000s of generations. Also india doesn't have animal shelters. Only rescue, rehabilitate and release back to the streets as indians hardly ever adopt strays cz they are not dogs of "breeds". By indian law, stray animals cannot be killed or relocated as that would remove them from their habitat. Habitats where they live wd their families and know where to forage for food. If u want to adopt a stray, just pick one off the street and bring her home. Adoption done.

Interesting to ponder why humans do not so take care of each other. Maybe because animals are not competition for us, while other humans do threaten our share of food, shelter, peace, etc. Regardless, god should have rested on the 6th and 7th days.

Just so people will know, dogs wag their tails under stress too. This poor animal may have been afraid of the strangers approaching, being so sick, and not knowing if they were going to harm her being so vulnerable and weak.
