Woman Adopts Dying Dog To Make His Final Days As Happy As Possible
There’s no Make-A-Wish Foundation for dogs, but if there were, Nicole Elliot could be its CEO. The Columbus, Georgia resident recently adopted Chester, a cancer-ridden dog, from Animal Ark Rescue. When Eliot saw “hospice needed” posted by a charity, she decided to take the dog in to make his last days as happy as possible.
“I am trying to give him normal doggy experiences that he may have never had the chance to do before, and a ton of spoiling,” she told WTVM. “So far he took a ride with the windows down, he had a famous Nathans hot dog, he had a doggie sundae, he had a milk and oatmeal bath (spa day), he went on a shopping spree where he got a cozy bed, bandannas, lots of treats, and toys.”

Chester was found in a shelter where he was dying from cancer
Nicole Elliot couldn’t bear the thought of him dying alone – she “fell in love the moment [she] saw him”
“I had to consider it for a while and decide if I could handle it. I decided it would be an amazing experience to take on”
“I knew that it would be my responsibility to make his final days the best I could, to mine and his ability”
“As you can see his favorite spot is on the center console. I think he feels like a king up there”
“I am trying to give him normal doggy experiences that he may have never had the chance to do before, and a ton of spoiling”
“He doesn’t seem to be in much pain, but he is slow due to his age”
“Out of all of that his favorite part has been any of the food and treats – he still has a HUGE appetite”
“He likes his hair blowing in the wind, but his legs aren’t stable enough to stand and put his head out the window”
“He had surgery to remove some tumors. Soon after more tumors started showing up on his body. Today he has many cancerous lumps all over his body”
“He is also heart worm positive. He is still so sweet and as perky as he could be”
Nicole’s daughter Paisley also tries to make Chester’s days as joyful as possible
“So far he took a ride with the windows down, he had a famous Nathans hot dog, he had a doggie sundae, he had a milk and oatmeal bath (spa day), he went on a shopping spree where he got a cozy bed, bandannas, lots of treats, and toys”
“It will be so tough to lose him shortly, so I decided to take the time he has left (which is undetermined, but not guessed to be very long,) and make it as happy as I can”

Aww, that is so touching. God bless this woman for adopting this dog and giving him some extra TLC in the final days of his life.
I think this woman has a beautiful, giving soul and the dog is very fortunate to have encountered her.
Considering the cost of vet bills, yes! a real hero for making this pups last days enjoyable as possible!
Such a selfless thing to do. You're not only only giving this little dog the best final days he's probably ever had, but you're teaching your little girl compassion. There should be more people in this world like you. What a better world it would be. You're not only beautiful on the outside by on the inside as well. God bless you for your kindness, your love, and your compassion. <3

Brave, wonderful woman. I feel confident she'll do what is best for Chester when the time comes. <3
I cried when reading this... thank you for your heartwarming help for an animal at his last days ;(((((
Beautiful heroine, inside and out. I pray that this sweet boy has more time with her than expected; love can make such a huge difference, and while it may not cure his condition, it might give him just a bit more time. Either way, they are blessing each other.
Joanna Les' I think maybe he is just not believing how great things just got!!! He may have some physical pain, but he is feeling the ve and the comfort. <3
Kiss him for me! Your heart is brave and big and I'm sure you are loved by many!
This made me cry....I mean, I was almost sobbing sitting here at my desk......you are an angel...truly, the world needs more people like you Nicole!
God bless this lady and her daughter who are knowingly risking great heart ache in order to show Chester the love he so deserves. Take note everyone, this is what true compassion is all about and the lesson here is that all of God's creatures are worthy of love. More people need to do this........
I sat with all 3 of my dogs when they died. Luckily I could cry as hard and as much as I wanted to, my dog could not tell me to stop. I still keep their last collar and nametag they hade on. Be strong Nicole. And stay with him when you see the time has come. You will see the love in his eyes !! xxxxx
Thank God for people like this!!!! Thank you for stepping in and loving him until the end, where obviously his previous owners could not. You are a saint among dog lovers every where!!!!!
Nicole & Paisley you make me believe there is hope for the Universe. I am so glad you found Chester and was able to do so much for him. Luis/Rio de Janeiro
Thanks Nicole. People like you make a difference and make us believe in hope for the Universe. Luis/Rio de Janeiro
I think it is a wonderful thing to do and the love he will give you in return will outweigh anything else. How do I know. One day an elderly grey hound walked up to my car as I got home. It was dark and it scared the begeebees out of me at the time. It was tatooed as an ex racing dog but despite many attempts we could not track its last owner. After having it vet checked we found it too had cancer. They offered to put her down. We kept her for the next nine months and gave her probably the best doggie days she had ever spent. On that final trip back to the vet she looked at us with such love and understanding as if to say thankyou. She also knew it was time so that she wouldn't suffer. On that day her legs collapsed completely and we knew it was time. Hard yes but also so rewarding that we had given her some doggie happiness. These special animals like special children are sent to us for a reason. The compassion I have had for animals since has been tremendus. Love her while you can.
Nicole Elliot you are the most amazing wonderful woman! Thank you for your kindness and compassion. this poor little guy has obviously had a terribly rough life and you have done so much for him. You are an amazing example for your beautiful little girl - she will learn so much from her wonderful mother.
Nicole you are amazing for doing this. Chester will forever be grateful for what you did for him. You know you may be giving Chester a few more days or weeks or months by just showing him love. Now he has someone to live for. Good deeds never go unseen! Hugs!!
What wisdom! This woman knows that acts of love & compassion truly makes us beautiful. Sharing it with her daughter - what a life lesson! Sow the seeds of generosity & kindness & you set your children up for a healthy, meaningful & joyous life.
There is a special place in heaven for this woman and her family. Bless you.
How could anyone not like this? You ARE amazing!!! I pray that the grief you and your daughter will inevitably experience, will be short lived, and what you will have gained will be beyond wonderful. God bless you for what you have done!

What do you want to bet that dog lives longer than anyone imagines possible? ❤ doggie hospice=awesomeness
I think this woman is an angel. Instead of talking about God and scripture, more people should simply do wonderful and amazing things for others and display their faith. Thank you for your huge and compassionate heart!!! Enjoy your last days, little man.
This dog is not sad it is being givin everything it deserved here on earth before he goes on. Nichole is an earth angel who has allowed him the joy of life om this planet that he hadn't been given. What a gift she has in her heart to take on such a wonderful journey with this wonderful dog. G-d bless you.
Bless you and your family for providing love, security, safety and fun for this little dog as he moves toward the Bridge. You will be rewarded. Hugs.
Bless you for caring! No one should die without knowing love. and you have shown him that! What a beautiful life lesson she is teaching her daughter! <3
Absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you so much for making his final days so full of live and joy! ❤❤❤
It doesn't get any better than this (except for complete remission), and souls come no greater than Nicole's... This is how each of us - and each precious companion animal - should spend our final days... surrounded by compassion and love! My dear friend Rachel Brockway Mairose has initiated a 'hospice-foster" program under the auspices of her rescue, Secondhand Hounds - and places terminal companions in loving homes and arms, rather than let them pass alone, unwanted, and unloved... abandoned and destined for euthanasia in shelters, by those very same families who promised them "forever"... Sweet little Chester will depart this world filled with the knowledge that he was loved and cherished... which is the birthright of EVERY companion animal!
I am not sure I could do it cause I know how painful it is to lose a pet. For a while I considered not having any but no matter how sad it gets we can give them a good life and better with me than anyone else I don't know about. My mama dog is now 10 years old a black lab and I have 2 of her children part shepherd and one of her grand children. I know when mama goes (the best dog I ever had) she will live on in them.
Thank you so much for helping this adorable animal. I believe that God will reward you for the kindness.
What a great thing to do! We need more Nicole's! It would be great if we had hospice care for pets, just like we do for people. Thanks to Nicole!
She is an angel on earth! I hope their story goes viral so others can see how much love an older sick dog can still give <3
You are a priceless person ..with a really huge heart <3 <God love your pea picking soul ..He is so grateful to be with you ..you can see it in his eyes .Not because he is dieing ..Because he has to leave you too / Bless you
