8-Year-Old Boy Wanted To Learn Makeup And His Mom Bought Him A Lesson

8-year-old boy named Ethan Wilwert wants to become a professional makeup artist. His mom, Season, supports him fully, so she gave him a makeup lesson with Emmy-nominated hair stylist and make-up artist Joey Killmeyer.

Killmeyer did one side of Ethan’s face and the boy did the other. “I don’t remember the last time I saw Ethan so happy or so confident in himself,” said Season. “Other shoppers in the store even requested that Ethan do their makeup.

“This does not define his gender identity nor his sexual preference,” the mom added. “He’s just exploring and being a kid! We as parents should be our child’s biggest cheerleader.”

I think that his parents let him be a kid, in a non-judgemental way, and it's great. Because honestly... who cares ? If he wanted to try, let him try ! The only people having a problem with that are those who can't accept that the world could go in another way than the one they decide, and at the end THEY are the one who are creating pain and suffering by judging constantly. Let people do what they want to do, and the world will be a better place. And big up for the mom, that's what parenting should be.

Sorry, but why is this an issue? Most of the most prolific and successful makeup aritists/fashion designers/hair stylests have been men. Yes some are gay and some or not, but I fail to see why that has anything to do with a kid expressing his artistic interest? Good for mom! He has a talent and perhaps a life long hobby (maybe even successful career!) He doesn't hurt anyone and will make himself and others happy with his creations. Skin is his canvas and makeup his paint

I love this. I just hate that an 8 y/o is a pretty "girl" than I ever was LOL. but seriously. I am happy he got to try this out. i am 57 and always hated the boys/girls thing. When i was 7 my best friend (a boy) was not allowed to play with me anymore. Macho dad put an end to it.I was totally hurt. we had been friends since we were 3so i guess i learned the stupidity of it early on. Good luck to Ethan and i hope he does fulfill his dream

Dang, I'm a cis woman and my mom wouldn't let me wear makeup at all as a kid. She hardly ever wore any herself, but she wouldn't even let me try on her lipstick... Honestly I think I have some gender expression issues myself as a result, so good on this mom!

Before anybody starts freaking out about the amount of makeup he's wearing, the post left out the fact that it is DRAG makeup. That's the specific style he wanted to do.

That's everything nice, but should be all of this child "exploration" and "just being kid" on the internet? I definitely wouldn't be ok with internet full od photos of every wierd stuff I did as a child. Specially when there is a controversy in it. I am strongly against sharing photos of kids like this, they can't tell if it's good for them in the future, they don't know they can't delete things like that once their parents posted.

His mother uploading pictures of her son wearing make-up, in a make-up lesson he got on his face by a professional artist. This picture isn't controversial, people make it look like that. I could agree they shouldn't post him doing something harmful for him or anyone or anything else, or maybe in a way that violated his privacy by him not knowing or not liking it. So since he wanted to do that lesson, it was nothing harmful, he learned from it and liked the whole thing, even posed for pictures, how exactly is this not good for him in the future? The only way this would be bad for him in the future would be if he found himself in a society where freedom of will and expression is forbidden.

Stage make up probably wasn't what he was interested in. And isn't making him into a pirate or the Mad Hatter gender specific, too? Why do you care? Why would you worry about this boy, who clearly has very good parents and is loving his life? Why try to make it to something sinister or frown at it.

More parents should be open to allowing their children to explore whatever it is that makes them happy. As long as it's not hurting the child, then why not let them try things? Gender roles should be loosened up, girls wear jeans, t-shirts, etc, which is considered traditionally to be what males wear. What's wrong with boys wearing girls clothes? Makeup? Whatever makes them feel good about themselves, is great!

I think this little artist have found his calling in life already, which takes most people a lifetime to find... I am sure he will be a famous artist or a makeup of the stars and that he is destine for greatness in his future. With a little encouragement ... Get him some paints and canvas and see what he can do with that. Encourage him to use his talents in more ways than one ....

Honestly I don't know what to think about it. From the one side it's cool that his mom let him try to do this and explore himself in that way (in future he can be for example a stylist), but from the another side it's just creepy for me. And if I had a son and he would like to have fun with cosmetics, I would just let him make makeup on my face.

I love nothing more than gender fluidy and its lack of constraints.! Every child should be free and open to explore without fear of judgement... always.! However I have a problem with any 8 year old wearing a faceful of make up (be it male or female) let them be children already. I guess this article would of been a whole different story if this was a little girl...

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

I read several coments before decide write something here. I can't understand so many people without the real comprehension about that post. It's not about prejudice, but it's about a child that can't decide his sexuality in so much early time. If he wants being a homosexual in the future, ok! no problem. it will be an adult decision, but now his mother should teach him about what he really is... a boy. Maybe someone will say I am a homophobic, but I am not. I just think that here the most coments seems to blind an obvious thing: He is a child, he is a boy and he must be educated and oriented in order to be a man. In the future he will decide his own destiny, not now.

Make up has nothing to do with sexuality. And you don't "decide" your sexuality, you can't choose which gender your attracted to. You may not be homophobic, but you are ignorant. Learn more about different sexualities before writing such rubbish in future, you embarrass yourself.

And then you wonder why these kids grow up not knowing if they're boys or girls! Why put the makeup on him? Why not teach him to put it on GIRLS, who are the ones supposed to wear makeup? Or, if you must put makeup on a boy, why not make him still look masculine to some extent, instead of looking completely like a girl? This nothing more than social experimentation on the part of these parents. It's child abuse.

It's the other way round: If you tell him that only girls are allowed to wear makeup he would wish he was a girl since he wants to wear makeup. Thanks to his mom he learns that gender doesn't matter. Transgenders usually had a bad childhood. PS: From my view he still looks like a boy.

This kind of thinking by his parents is exactly whats wrong with this world, letting everyone do what they feel like. If someone feels that he/she wants to do something it doesnt automatically give them right to do so. No boundaries or quality supervision. Thats why most of todays kids are spoiled brats. Im ok with kids playing with stuff, even boys trying makeup, but this isnt playing, he did not try makup on his mom or some other girl, instead he turned himself into drag queen. And that second pose isnt childish, but full on b*tch pose that every other girl on facebook has to attract guys for sex! Letting their son "play" like this DOES INDEED define his sexuality! Too young to soon! Im not gonna suck up to everyone with liberal comments hunting for likes. Sorry but i am not ok with this!

Would you be here complaining about his mother allowing her son to "do what he feels like", if he had expressed an interest in soccer? What about if she signed him up for football after he'd shown talent in that area? Your point makes no sense. I'm sure one makeup lesson at MAC cost less than hockey equipment. This seems like blanketed bigotry to me.
