Have you ever used a food delivery app? We all know they’re overpriced, and it’s a gamble how fresh your food will be when it arrives. But sometimes, the temptation of ordering in is just too great. You’re laying on the couch binging a new Netflix series, and you can’t be bothered to venture out into the world. You’re sick at home quarantining, but your cravings for the Thai restaurant down the block are too powerful to ignore. When we order in, our main concern is typically the desire to stay in the comfort of our own homes. But have you ever considered how trustworthy your delivery driver is in the first place?

Last week, one DoorDash driver went viral for giving every customer who uses food delivery services trust issues. The video, that was shared on TikTok by Doordashtips2, was apparently retaliation for receiving a small tip, but that does not necessarily justify his behavior. Below, you’ll find the full video that horrified hundreds of thousands of viewers, as well as some of the responses these viewers shared and an interview with the driver himself. Feel free to let us know your thoughts on the video, or food delivery apps in general, in the comments section, and then if you’re interested in checking out another Bored Panda article featuring similar food delivery drama, you can find that story right here

This DoorDash driver has gone viral for retaliating against a low tipper by helping himself to some of their food

To gain more insight on this situation, we reached out to the controversial driver himself, who goes by Doordash Tips online. He told Bored Panda that he’s been driving for DoorDash since 2016, and the job isn’t all bad. “I love the freedom,” he shared. Unfortunately, that freedom isn’t enough to keep him from being tempted to take a bite out of a customer’s food, as he told us he’ll sample customers’ food every week. So we were curious what he considers to be a fair tip, to avoid getting any food stolen. “$2 per mile or a minimum of $5 is a good tip,” he shared. But the reason why tipping is important is because drivers don’t make much without it. “Drivers only get $2.50 per delivery,” DoorDash Tips told Bored Panda.

Now, you might be hearing this story and thinking to yourself, “That’s exactly why I have never used any of these services myself!” But if you’re one of the hundreds of millions of people worldwide who have ordered a pizza or some Chinese food via an app, you might be panicking and just praying that nobody has ever spit in your food or taken a sample of your fries before they landed on your doorstep.

In recent years, the food delivery industry has skyrocketed in revenue, so there’s no shame in participating in the growing trend. In the United States alone, food delivery revenue tripled between 2015 to 2020, and in 2020, this industry made over $26 billion across its 111 million users. These profits are not expected to slow down any time soon either, as by 2025, the US food delivery market is expected to reach a whopping $43 billion. And among the various food delivery platforms available to Americans, DoorDash has become the most popular, controlling about 45% of the US food delivery market. They have over one million drivers who deliver food and are available in over 4,000 North American cities.

But just because a company is massive and successful doesn’t mean that it’s actually trustworthy. Ordering food at a restaurant is risky enough in the regard that you can’t guarantee how safe and sanitary everything is in the kitchen, but having food delivered to your doorstep opens you up to even more risks. Whoever picks up and delivers your meal has the opportunity to tamper with it, and they can easily never be held accountable, as they drop off the food, complete the order and are never seen or heard from again.

In fact, it might be more common than you think for a delivery driver to help themselves to a bit of their customers’ food. A 2019 study by US Foods found that nearly 30% of delivery drivers admitted to tampering with a customer’s food. To try to remedy this situation, customers recommended that restaurants place “tamper-evident” labels or packaging on the food, for example, a sticker on top of the box that will clearly be ripped or unstuck if the box has been opened.

In this particular case on TikTok, it came down to how much the customer had tipped, but we can’t guarantee that every other driver would be satisfied with a $5 or $2 per mile tip. Does that mean that they’re entitled to a few of our French fries? We would love to hear your thoughts on this situation in the comments below, pandas. Do you trust delivery apps? And if you do, how much do you typically tip drivers? Let us know if you’ll ever DoorDash, GrubHub or Uber Eats again, and then if you’re interested in reading another Bored Panda article featuring similar food delivery drama, check out this story next!

Many viewers were horrified by the driver’s behavior, noting that even tipping well doesn’t guarantee good service

Meanwhile, other viewers sympathized with the driver and shared how they like to get back at bad tippers

I am probably gonna get downvoted, but I am tired of these crying babies who don't get tip for the work they did, either delivery or serving food at restaurant. In none of the other professions, no matter how hard people work or no matter for how many hours they work, almost no one get tips. For ex. Cashiers at super stores, front desk people in many jobs, janitors, nurses, teachers etc. It's my hard earned money too, I don't have extra to tip you, I am also struggling to meet ends, just coz your employer doesn't pay you enough, why its now my duty to fill that gap in your wage. I will tip you only if you have made by experience memorable, that too only if my pocket allows it. Handing me my food bag doesn't count. Tipping just coz you are doing your job makes no sense to me. Vote for right people who will bring right laws, start campaigns for your rights, don't cry on my shoulder please. And this particular instance of eating someone else food coz they only tipped 1 dollar, is a crime. I hope doordash fires this employee and no other food delivery service hires him, he has contaminated the food and what if the person has some contagious disease?

I'm shocked at the American tipping culture , like you really have people here defending this man for eating someone's else food over a bad tip. I don't really use DD but aren't you able to refuse the order if you don't agree with the tip amount??

No he shouldn't he should be fired and arrested for theft. Two counts of it one for the food he stole and one for the customer paying for it. I will never use a delivery service for food or groceries because of this kind of s**t.

Aren't 10% tips automatically included on restaurant receipts in Brazil? Does this also applies to food delivery services?

This American tipping culture is so alien to me! What puzzles me even more is the fact that servers expect a percentage of the bill for their tip. Like, didn't you do the exact same work regardless if my order was $10 or $100? Why should I give you more? Why doesn't your employer give you more for that matter? I keep hearing "if you can't afford to tip, don't go out to eat" NO! "If you can't afford a decent wage for your employees don't open a restaurant"!

Now, thinking about it, if people stopped ordering to save money, less drivers would be needed. The delivery companies and big restaurants would fire a lot of delivery workers, leaving them with no tips and no salary.

The price of food delivery is absurd. You want a $12 burger, but after tax, delivery fee, service fee, and tip your $12 burger now cost you $30.

Door Dash sounds like an utter nightmare. I will never use that service if I ever need to. Tipping should also always come after. You get a tip based on the service you provide. Why are people expecting tips like this?

I wish they would get away from the tip first method and back to the tip after method. The tip should be based on the service like you said. However all these viral videos scare people into tipping a lot up front to prevent their order from being tempered with or just sitting there. Then half the time the service is still bad

Two wrongs do not make a right. They don't know the entirety of the situation, yet they're stealing from someone? Maybe they put the wrong amount in (we did this once, then handed them the rest in an envelope at the door with an apology). Or... literally anything else?

You're right. Either way, regardless if it was a mistake, or the tip really was $1, or even if there was NO tip, that is NOT the driver's food. He did not pay for that food. That is theft.

I hope he got fired. It hurts my heart when people say "if you can't afford to tip..." What? If you can't afford to tip, don't eat? Maybe they are too sick to cook for themselves, maybe they have a sick child. Whatever their reason, don't punish them because you chose to work a low paying job in hopes you will make bank in tips.

I know due to the fact we haven't figured out that a living wage is a human right in the United States that a lot of people depend on tips. But a tip is optional and really should only be for exceptional service. What the driver did was theft. The food was not his.

That is a good idea but the problem is you will have a hard time getting your order run because nobody's going to take an order with no tip on it, because they are guaranteed to make no money off of it and there are many many people who put no tip and give no tip when you get there so door draft drivers don't accept no tip orders. If your order has to go over 5 mi the Dasher literally did not get paid they can't even cover the cost of their car and gas with 2.50. which is all doordash pays.

I understand that delivery drivers have to work for a low wage, and tips, but I believe the driver could have declined this job if he didn't want that low tip (I never used Door Dash, so I'm not sure if that's the case or not. Please correct me if I am wrong). However, if the driver accepted the delivery and removed anything from their order (even if it is just one french fry), then the driver has effectively stolen from the customer, tampered with their food, and possibly ran the risk of getting them sick if they had any kind of disease (like COVID). I hope Door Dash fired this guy.

People like this don’t deserve any tips. Imagine feeling this entitled about getting a tip. I usually tip when out at restaurants but if the person serving me is acting condescending and being rude i don’t tip and no i don’t feel bad. Not my fault or problem restaurants don’t pay their workers a living wage and expect customers to tip their livelyhood. Well luckily i’m in Canada where they do get paid a salary but I know in USA it’s not the same. Tips are for a job well done and no one will get a tip from me for rudeness. Simple as that.

You have no idea what you're talking about, the problem is you're hung up on the word tips. Just because doordash calls it a tip does not make it so that is actually the pay that goes to the driver we make nothing without your tips. Driving 10 miles for $2.50 which is all doordash will pay you is getting screwed that does not even pay for the gas

Don't expect tips and do your job. I dont care how much you get per delivery because it's not my problem. Maybe you should get a real job. Honestly, all you do is drive. Pizza delivery guys help out in the kitchen and do actual work. You wait at a restaurant and then drive. The gig economy is literally a scam. Get a real job instead of depending on others to tip well for literally only driving food somewhere. Even Uber drivers are better than dashers, they have to actually interact with people and drive strangers around.

how easy is it to get to your house? Is it a nice clear driveway, plenty of parking, just walk up to the door? or is it a icy h-hole that is dangerous to walk up? or requires one to ascend three flights of stairs? is there no parking perhaps and one has to walk three minutes to get to you? does the restaurant have free parking or is it pay to park? sure some deliveries are just walk up, drop of, walk away but you would be surprised the amount of work one actually has to put into it for majority of the day now he still did the wrong thing, like I woild never even dream of eating a customers food, regardless of their tip! I took the job, imma do it. Even if its no tip or little tip, because I took the damn thing. but dont sit there and say its not really work. It is, I have had to walk five minutes to get to someplace due to parking being non existent, ive walked to peoples houses in the pouring rain during a thunderstorm. It Is Actual Work.

I once caught a DoorDasher, in spite of my explicit instructions, attempting to leave my order in the bushes by the front gate. She immediately lost my generous tip. EVERY delivery order needs to have the option of canceling the tip, in case the driver decides to go rogue. BTW, that DoorDasher should be arrested, fired, and blacklisted from any occupation dealing with food. He is NOT to be trusted.

First this guy shouldnt be able to delivery orders for Door Dash or any other delivery service again. Second, I dont tip waitresses prior to getting service why do we have to tip delivery drivers that way. If I only get part of my food or it is delivered cold why would I tip you. Some drivers pick up multiple orders at once from sometimes more than one location causing some orders to be delivered cold. I also thought they could see the tip when they select to full fill the order, so why take it if you think the tip is too low? The entire tipping system is bull c**p, I dont feel I am required or should be required to tip someone, especially because they feel it lowers their pay. Those are conversations they should be having with their employer. I 100% do not feel I am required to give a tip just for someone to make a living wage, I think employers are to dependent on customers paying their employees their worth rather than them doing it themselves.

Funny thing is, this guy probably got fired and lost that $1 he was so ungrateful for. There are literally 0 rules saying that I have to leave a tip and those beggars who complain get less from me. I don't do DoorDash anymore, because I'm fairly certain that's what is keeping people sick. I read a story about a delivery service (can't remember which one) where some of the customers actually ended up dying from illness being spread by the delivery driver....not worth it. Four years ago, I ordered DoorDash (didn't have a car), gave the driver a tip and everything, and they decided to steal my food and then ghost customer service. Got my money back, at least. I prefer to tip in cash, anyway.

This is a criminal act. He's stealing from the customer who paid for that merchandise. He should be fired at the very least. I have worked in customer service my whole life and I totally understand the frustration of bad tippers. I know a lot of people- especially overseas- are going to chime in with their comments about how stupid tipping is but there are reasons it works and why most of us would never want to get rid of it. That being said, tipping is never required. Take up your anger with your company. They could require a minimum tip or build it right into their fees in order to pay you for the mileage you're driving. They don't. So yes the person is a jerk for leaving a dollar tip but you take the job knowing you might not get one so stop being a baby and blaming them for your job not paying you well.

Whether or not it works can be debated, tipping in most of Europe is only given if the waiter/ waitress or bartender has outdone themselves and the service was extraordinary. But tipping here is never seen as something that should be done or something that should be done if you want to seem polite.

Customers pay outrageous fees and inflated menu prices for these services. You also pay one called “Delivery Fee” which DOES NOT go to the driver but DDash wants you to think it does. The driver gets none of the fees. Some drivers are homeless & live in their cars while the apps are making millions. The apps have also been sued (and lost) for stealing drivers tips, shortchanging mileage, and a long list of unfair practices. Some you wouldn’t believe . Do you really want to support this?

True but in a side hustle you still have to make enough money to cover your costs and make a little money otherwise why are you even doing it? The point of the matter is you want food delivered you have to pay for delivery if not call the restaurant and pick it up yourself

This makes me sick. So what if you get a small tip. Don't deliver to them again. You don't know what a person's monetary situation is and they paid for the food. If you don't like the pay, get a new job. Easy as that.

It is because they use their own vehicle and gas money to bring it to you and the risk of injury from accident is higher. If the company supplied the vehicle I wouldn't want to tip, but I always will if someone is spending their gas money and putting miles on their car.

Surely it will get to the point where people will simply stop using these delivery services if this kind of behaviour is possible? Takeaway food has gotten quite expensive recently without factoring in the add on fees these services charge. If the likelihood of disgruntled delivery people tampering with your meal becomes an issue too because the driver has deemed your tip "insufficient" people will eventually just say screw it.

I used to deliver for DoorDash, GrubHub, and Uber Eats. I have no sympathy for these drivers anymore. You are not forced to work these jobs. If it bothers you that much, find a different line of work. It's your fault if you're unhappy with the delivery. You weren't obligated to accept it.

No matter what food delivery service I use, It will be way more expensive than what it would cost to just pick it up myself. With me being aware of this, Id I decide to use this method I can be rest assured knowing my wallet took an unnecessarily big hit for some food. But my decision and my action. As a delivery driver, you have absolutely NO right stealing the food that someone paid for whether they tip or not. It not hard to just get out there and deliver it without taking any of it. I know this because I personally deliver food sometimes just to make a couple extra dollars. Most people these days don't even tip! I cant blame them with how exorbitant the prices are! I feel I deserve a tip for a delivery Myself sometime but I am aware that I CHOSE to get into my car and hit that throttle to get to the restaurant and your house knowing the possibilities of not receiving anything in return. Never once Will you catch contaminating your food with my grubby hands.

The question is- why aren’t customers complaining to the companies about the huge fees or better, just stop using the services instead of continuing to use them and complain about it? Most of you won’t even realize that many of the restaurants have their own free delivery service. The apps hide this information from you. The apps also exploit restaurants, charging them huge commissions and then not allowing them to get out of their contract when they can’t afford it. Many restaurants were put into the platforms without ever agreeing to it….without their knowledge.

Listen just pay people a living freaking wage. To make the food. To bring the food. To those just living day to day. To the wait staff in restaurants and diners. We need to just post prices with the tax included. Pay a flat rate so people don't have to tip workers. It's so cliche but haven't we come far enough to do the right fricking thing to another human that's courteous and polite. Also you touch my food when I tip $8 I will find you and end you and move all of your left shoes to a landfill.

Don't you already get charged a delivery fee when placing the order on top of the "optional" tip amount? Most use it as a secondary / supplemental source of income, not to be the breadwinner. If you don't like the amount you're being tipped, then stop doing it. Working at a restaurant is the same. Some tips are good, some are bad. My wife once had a shift so bad, after she tipped out the bartenders, she actually had to pay to work that shift. But the tipping culture is getting ridiculous. Used to be 5% for poor service, 10% for mediocre, 15% and above for excellent. Now it starts at 15% automatically on these ordering apps.

It is very disturbing and what’s worse is I avoid adding a tip to my order most of the time. Here’s the catch…. I was trying to help the driver just like I do a waitress. I typically give cash tips so they don’t have to pay taxes. If I put a tip on a card there is a record, but servers (delivery folks included) don’t make much as is. By me giving them cash they need to make sure they record minimum wage and that’s it. So much for me trying to help them out.

I gave the guy $8 for a delivery once, via card. I got cold food, he unapologetically handed me a half spilled drink and just told me to go complain to doordash about it. He smelled of cigarettes and he looked like he just didn't give a s*** about his job. Ever since then I refuse to tip by card. I want to look these people in the face when they hand me my food. So I pay them with cash. On top of that I'm a little concerned if I pay with card the company is going to take some a bit like with the waitresses. So when I hear this c**p, it makes me not want to order food at all. Because apparently cash isn't good enough for anyone.

It isn't the Customers responsibility to PAY you a decent stipend for a doing a job you chose to do. Thats the job of the company from who you work for. The prices for delivery services cost twice as much using these services alone. I sometimes deliver food for doordash and MOST people don't tip. Im happy if I even see a $1 tip these days. Don't go penalizing Customers and STEALING their food to satisfy your money pinching desires and ego. Thats just messed up!

I was under the impression that door dash does pay a flat rate wage also that is sufficient. I'm probably wrong but at the same time, that job is for teenagers and college students. There are plenty of jobs out there that pay a decent living wage that these people can get. Manual labor doesn't hurt you and helps your bank account.

Tips are only a thing in North America. It's a way for busnisses to get out of paying their staff a fair wage. You shouldn't have to tip to get the food you paid (often 2x as much for from the app than if you picked it up) for. This is a disgusting breach of trust. Their hands are dirty and in your food.

To the driver who eats his customer's food, you are disgusting, have you no shame or are you a basic sociopath? No one forces you to take the orders that tip low or tip below what you believe should be the minimum. Likely the truth is you use that as an excuse to steal food. Eventually, someone is going to beat your a*s for doing taking what isn't yours, doordash should have gotten rid of you a long time ago.

Just seems like the delivery jobs are getting lazier and more entitled people. We had someone else's food dropped off to us the other day. The lady didn't wait to ask if we were the ones who ordered it, just dropped the bags and fled after knocking. So we took the food in, because we weren't really thinking about it. My dad called the food place, and they had the lady come back to get the stuff. 1) If we had left it out, it was going to be dead cold by the time she got back (8 minutes in winter is not a good thing for hot food). 2) Well, we did bring it in, and she ASKED FOR IT BACK. You have no clue what those people could do to it. We all had covid before Thanksgiving, there is still an epidemic going on, and you just...want to take the food back. The driver was an impatient idiot and Uber Eats, I hope, paid for another meal for whoever ordered it.

This is disgusting. So many of these drivers do less then the bare minimum for the job and expect tips? I set up my own tip determination system and unless it isn't an option, only tip after service. For example: I lived in a complex where my unit couldn't be seen from the parking lot and the number system was nonsense (ex:unit 32 would be on the opposite side of the complex from 31 and 33) but it was really easy to find with the added instructions. If a driver made good time, read the instructions and didn't have to call for help, they could get up to a $20 tip, depending on my current account balance. It would go down the more obvious it was that the driver wasn't really trying. I did the delivery thing briefly, so I know just how little effort they were putting in by not even reading the instructions, so feel this was a fair grading set up. But it's ridiculous to expect a tip before service, that's just not how this works.

I'm done with tipping people at this point. You now have fast food employees asking for tips and certain coffee shops glaring you down if you don't tip. I've asked a few places who actually gets the tip. Companies have been keeping the tip for themselves rather than giving it to the employees. So if I'm going to tip, it will be in cash... So in this instance, my food would be eaten and contaminated all because I prefer giving money to the deliverer. If this is how it's going to be, no tips for anyone. The tips should be gone away with anyway. Especially since companies are getting away with keeping the money for themselves. This guy is simply horrible 😡

These Doordash drivers are out of hand. I used to Dash. I never threw anyones food up in a tree, tampered with it or didn't deliver it at all because of a bad tip. Few months ago I was the GM of a Hotel. I started off in Housekeeping. I cleaned p**s, s**t, vomit, and blood stained sheets. If I found $3 in a day I was lucky. When I was GM, my housekeepers were complaining of hard work and change scattered on the floor as tips. You drive your own car for dash, you chose that responsibility. I know of a small restaurant in my area that won't have anything to do with DD. Everyone in the Restaurant preps that food for youto go. You did nothing but pick it up and drive. Yet you want a $20 tip? I already don't agree with that. All these drivers are complaining yet they accept the orders. Idk if they changed it but I didn't see what my tip was until AFTER I dropped the food off and let the app know I did. Tips are OPTIONAL everywhere.

It would be an incredible service if Doordash would maybe consider instituting any rudimentary level of quality checks. Orders are almost ALWAYS WRONG, and DoorDash blames the restaurant, the restaurant blames the drivers and well, we have now all seen how the drivers feel. Sure they refund you, but when your meal that you purchased for your family is ruined, how much help is that?

I am a top doordash driver in California. I never mistreat a customer or their delivery in anyway. I am in contact via text within the dasher app upon arrival for their pick up and I give them an eta for their delivery. My tips at times exceed my earnings. I believe that respect should be shown to both parties the customer by doordash representatives and restaurants as well as customers and restaurants to the driver delivering. Even though you are an independent contractor from a uncle sam point of view you are still representing doordash and inadvertantly the restaurant. Drivers must be kind and curious and think about how you would feel as the customer. I bet this guy would be appalled if someone was eating his s**t posting on social media.

I just want to say. I am a for dash driver and I do it for extras money. Im 41yrs old and I take care of me. I was a server for 24yrs until I got issues with my kidneys that has caused me not to be able to physically work. I've always been grateful whether I got a 1.00 tip or 2.00 tip ECT... Because that's that's 1.00 more than what I had in my pocket. I also don't get upset if I don't get a tip because that person or family or that single father or mother ECT.. probably only had enough to eat. So this right here is disgusting and not all people who work in the customer service business are like this, there are grateful people and I'm one of them. So if I only get 50¢ then I'm adding it to my change jar. Yes door dash you only get paid by tips and not per hour and you are your own boss and make your own schedule. People know this before they sign up to door dash. So I'm the grateful driver and this person needs to be held accountable bcuz he stole what he didn't pay for.

I am a delivery driver for Papa Johns and have been doing it full-time for a little over a year, when it comes to tips you have to take the bad with the good, your working in the service industry and its not always going to be good for every order and theses people who believe they're entitled to people's food because they didn't tip good should be arrested for theft. There have been dozens of times that I have taken orders with no tip and got tips at the door or might have a low tip and get a larger tip when I deliver the food. Hey I'm a door dasher I I'm not happy to read what you do called door dashers have been doing to your customers! For everyone that receives an order and take the customers order and don't deliver it is stealing you're a thief and you should get prosecuted for stealing. One of the main reasons why you chose to become a doordasher it's to make money honest hard-working money and it doesn't matter if your customer tips you or not it's part of your job to pick up the order and deliver the order and you know the agreement you have to pay for your own gas you have to budget and manage your own money and still in the customers orders leave the customers starving most people don't even have money so y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.

THANK YOU! I can’t drive due to medication and im disabled. Some dashers dont realize that you guys are a lifeline for some people! I try to tip well but even 5 bucks isnt enough for some people. They also may not be aware they are ordering door dash. For instance i got Freddys the other day from the app, no mention of door dash until i got my delivery. I was mortified! I quickly apologized and the driver smiled and told me that it wasn’t a problem, she had another order to do. I even offered cash app. There was service with a smile. This is theft. Nothing else. Tip is something supposed to reward exceptionally good service. It is not my f*****g job to pay you, if you ever eat my food I will call the police on you. If I tip, then it is out of pure generosity, because you barely even make it to me with my food. Talk to your boss if you get too little pay, not to me, you ungrateful human trash. It is not that I am massively rich, cause if I was you wouldnt even be near my food. Get a union, protest and strike.

There's times I've drove like 20 minutes for a 1 dollar tip and then when I got there they still gave me $20 cash. You can literally see the tip and can deny picking it up. You're literally searching for low tip dashes just cuz you're broke and can't afford food so you mooch off other peoples food. Doordash should fire any drivers like that

You CHOOSE to work for DoorDash, if you have a problem with the compensation you're free to quit and find employment elsewhere. Now that you've shared your lack of personal integrity with the entire world and demonstrated that you're not above petty theft and throwing a tantrum when you're upset I'm sure job offers will come pouring in. The customer doesn't owe you a damn thing, gratuity is optional and for the most part it's a reflection of the work you do. Maybe your service was lousy, maybe not. Either way it's a hell of a lot more productive to always assume that you're the one to blame and not them, it's actually what you should hope for because you can change your behavior but you can't change other people. Time to put on your big boy pants and join the rest of us in the real world where the company you work for doesn't give a damn about your feelings and there are no safe spaces.

Every fast food joint I know around here uses a tanker-proof (“tamper-proof” not “tanker-proof”) seal on each bag and over the drink lids for food delivered by third-party. And each seal has the order number imprinted with the order time.

The entitlement here is so off the charts, he's earned reverse-Karen status. A tip is a bonus OVER what you're supposed to be paid to begin with. Doordash lacking in that department? Take it up with them. Do NOT get your panties in a wad if someone doesn't offer fat stacks for driving from A to B. There are situations where, yes, folks go out of their way and do everything they can to keep customers happy, and deserve equal compensation. But all this idiot needed to do was take food from the restaurant to the person's door. GTFO my face, Karen.

Wow. This ALMOST makes me want to get TikTok, just to yell at the ****face & explain not everyone ordering DD is some tophat & monocle wearing rich d-bag using $100 bills to light Cuban cigars, while poor Dashers sit on the other side of the app a la a 21st century orphan Annie. Asking, please, sir/madam/they, may I have a tip?"....Only to get laughed at. I know people think "poors" don't deserve a right to order food sanitary food, but Dashers don't know if they are screwing with the food of the disabled, elderly, ppl w/ set incomes who tip what they can. Maybe they are Dashing for families who've been forced to become unpaid nurses for family w/ Alzheimers or adult children who are mentally handicapped, so they cannot simply "go get it themselves" without someone else to watch the home. I feel for struggling Dashers who SHOULD be paid more. But why dont nurses, teachers, firefighters, social workers(who all deserve raises too) act like a-****s on the job? NOT EVEN UBER DRIVERS!

I'm no attorney, but if I pay for food on an app, and the delivery driver helps themself to my food, that considered theft. To what degree of theft is debatable, but it's still theft. Now, I'm on SSI. I do like to order in food, at least once or twice a month. Because I'm on SSI, I have to watch how much I spend. I can't always afford to tip. It's the same thing when I need an Uber. I can't always afford to tip a driver. Why? Because being on SSI, and not having a vehicle, is extremely tough. I have no choice but to forego a tip sometimes. My point is, not everyone can tip. If you're in the delivery business such as Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc., think about those who are ordering, and put yourself in someone else's shoes. I know you have a demanding job picking up orders or picking up people, but show some compassion for one who just needs to get to that doctors appointment, or the person that just spent their last $20 to afford a meal to eat. Think about others.

I almost never tip, but in our country its normal. They have normal payment like all others in any other work. Of course sometimes we tip like 1$ but its only bonus, they have same amount of money like me in good payment job. And if they do something to food we can ask for refund and he can be fired.

I've done Uber and doordash slot of the customers will only tip a dollar sometimes less and spend like 25-40$ on the food and a majority of the time you have to wait for it to be ready get the food then deliver and it's not even worth it after the 30-60 mins it took to deliver. Its rare to see people actually tipping and I quit doing this work because 1/5 people are cheap and suck.

That guy is trash. The customer is already paying sometimes double what the food is worth already. I'm in bc and I'll see "service charge" $3.99 delivery charge $2-3.99 an BC charge $.99 that was some kind of retaliatory thing when provice put a cap on mark-ups, the food itself being more than if you went yourself to restaurant eg gyoza was $5.75 in restaurant but 7$ on dd AND tip on top. So a $22 order in a restaurant turns into like $35 BEFORE tip at minimum so even with a 5$ tip you just paid DOUBLE nearly. You could have eaten at restaurant twice and even got still hot food. I don't know how many times I set up order but didn't send because I really couldn't justify the amount it came too without feeling sick about wasting money we need fir other things.

I don’t agree with a driver tampering with food at all. Being a delivery driver myself. Do we really need to stoop to the customers level of ignorance? Skip the dishes pays little per delivery and people get entitled bcuz they placed the order but no too little tip. Not too mention they think you should take the risk of walking in the dark on unfamiliar ground when they order at night but don’t put on outside lights. Raise yourself to a higher standard

I use to be a door dasher, bartender and waitress. I've down it all. But I've never done anything like this. I always think about my situation and how I don't have it all the time. The food alone on dd is douse what the restaurant actually pays. This place is just making me cook more and more at home. Ordering for DD is aggravating enough with the high prices but for you to eat someone food is not acceptable. You chose the job because you wanted " freedom " guess what buddy freedom still comes with a price. I understand it was 1$ but jeez dude something is better than nothing at all. That could of been food for child and you are eating it. If that was my food yeah we would of have a problem and I would of made you pay me for my food and go on DD and report I never got it. I am that one that I meet the driver at the door and check my food in front of them. And if something is missing or wrong or my food cold or it's been tampered with yes I get a refund and write bad reviews.

Those or you who are “shocked”-do you think this situation is new to delivery apps and that it doesn’t exist with any restaurant delivery? Do you have any idea how many hands touch your food as it’s being prepared? or what conditions it was compared under? THAT’s what you all should be concerned with. When an app delivery driver picks up your order it is in a sealed bag and is delivered to you the way it was given to us. Do you really think we want your food? I’d never eat the c**p that most of you order.

As a dasher, you are not shown the tip until after you have marked the order delivered. You are only shown a total amount for the order up until you mark the delivery complete and only then are you shown a breakdown of the order payment which would show you how much, if any, tip was left. As for customers, your tip is for the driver to deliver your order, whether it is correct or not. All they can do is make sure you get what they were given.

Phillip

Liar. I worked for door dash and you for sure see the tip before you pick up the order.. I know cause I never accepted anything below $5 tip. Also some dashers said you get deactivated or penalized if falling below 80% accepting rate which is also not true. You can choose not to accept any order that you think is not enough and door dash does not do anything. Door dash may deactivate you if you fall below 80% completion rate which means you accepted the order and actually picked it up but never delivered it therefore not completing the order.

Happy to live in a country without normalized tipping. I only tip for great service or particular efforts put into it. Also, if someone tampered with my food, I'd get paid back fully, and it'd result in a negative review of the delivery driver & a black mark on their profile. Also, I use Uber and good customers tend to get instantly refunded, no question asked. I don't know if door dash does the same, if not, they should. When your client never had a problem and your driver had 3 in the past month (he said once a week), something's clearly wrong

All those other professions make decent wage. 2.50 is unacceptable for driving 10 miles to bring someone food. That is all doordash pays. 1.00 per mile is for your car, so you need at least 2 dollars a mile to make it worth it. And no, you can't refuse low tip orders. Doordash penalizes you for declining orders, decline enough and you won't receive good orders. Bottom line is, if you were to order food from a restaurant and have somebody drive to go pick it up from the restaurant and bring it back to you you would have to pay them for their time and gas. If you cannot afford to pay the restaurant, and your doordash driver who does not work for the restaurant and does not receive money from them, you should not be ordering doordash go pick it up yourself. The problem really is you got people who can barely afford their food order all over the place who don't have cars, and they can barely afford a food order so they tip nothing. If you can't afford a car you can't afford to eat out.

Doordash and all other delivery services like it, are a LUXURY service... if you can't afford to leave a decent tip then you need to go get it yourself. That's how this whole industry works. That being said, if this guy wasn't happy with the 1.00 tip, he should have just refused it and moved on. Touching someone else's food is so gross, I've even asked restaurants to please fill up drinks all the way so the customer doesn't feel cheated. Our job as the driver is to make sure your food and drinks get to point A to Point B on time and undisturbed. Don't be mad at "tipping culture" ... it makes perfect sense. Again, we are providing a luxury service, and you have to pay for that. Or... you know, get off your a*s and GO. GET. IT. I don't understand why people get mad at having to tip, even if Doordash did pay more per delivery, it's still your job as the consumer to pay for this service that you obviously don't need but just want.

I drive for DoorDash and unless he hit "delivery completed" (before even dropping off the food) we don't know what the specific tip is. So I'm not sure why he would still have this customer's food. But as delivery person, when i get an offer and feel like its not worth the time or effort to complete, then i just dont accept it. Simple as that. I take orders that make sense. And to those that say that we don't deserve a tip...this is a service industry job, you as the customer are paying for the convenience. So just go get the food yourself? Yeah? If you are struggling to make ends meet, you wouldn't be using a 'luxury ' service. Eat at home🤷🏽‍♀️

First this guy is disgusting...second, most of you are idiots that are letting words cloud your thinking. Tipping or no tipping the customer is always paying the wages that business works. As it comes to doordash its not a tip doordash connects with relatively independent drivers your tip is a bid it is how much your willing to pay for a driver to bring you food if I see a run that's only 3.50 I'm not taking it it's not worth my fuel time or wear on my vehicle. It's not a tip! It's a bid! Now the problem with this driver is he is acting like an employee (which he is not ) he could have just declined the order. Which would have been the right thing to do. Yes what he did was theft doordash should not contract with him any more.....but I must stress again It's not a tip It's a bid. If someone offers to clean your house for $3 an hour and you take that deal you can probably bet their stealing from you.

Luxuries..... Ordering from delivery services of any type is a luxury. We all know that items from delivery services are going to be more expensive than going directly to the merchant. Therefore if you do not have the funds to pay for what you're ordering as well as to tip the person that is delivering your items then you should not use delivery services of any type. A delivery driver is not the same as a cashier or a teacher or a janitor ect...... If you cannot afford to tip your delivery drivers then you should not order from any delivery service. I mean seriously you can get off of your lazy behind put gas in your car and go drive to get your own McDonald's or Panda Express or groceries for that matter. There are quite a few positions out there where it is known you should tip. It is okay if you cannot afford to tip however if this is the case then you should not be ordering from delivery services nor should you go to restaurants or hair salons ect......

Why aren’t you all more talking about the thousands of you who lie and claim you never got your orders and cause a driver to lose their income and then you brag about it on social media? A driver is fired immediately when you do this. I’ve seen it happen to many mothers who then have no means of feeding their kids when theyve been blocked from the app or received an email why they’d been fired. it’s really pitiful that customers do this. Your karma is coming folks. Yes, we know how much you’ve tipped before you drop your food off.

Out of the tip money drivers get we pay commission to the company, gas, auto maintenance, additional car insurance for independent contractors, and additional IRS taxes for independent contractors. Contrary to what you may read, because it’s often exaggerated, the average driver makes less than minimum wage. Again, would you do this for those wages? Are you willing to walk through dark yards at night, trip over kids toys, fall down icy steps or sidewalks, be attacked by the customers dog, be treated rudely, and then insulted with a low tip? We know what’s up when the customer wants the orders left at their door. There is no longer a health concern that warrants that. It’s because their embarrassed at the tip their leaving and don’t want to face the driver.

My issue is if you only have enough for your order and but not a tip (though somebody eating your food or have missing items to me is theft) don't order dd gh or any other delivery svr. Go to the place and pick it up yourself. I ordered some cat litter and cat food from a store that was literally in the shopping center across from me. I still tipped them $3.00 and they just had to go from one parking lot to the other. Why did I tip the $3. I was sick and unable to pick it up myself. And even tho it was right there the y did use gas. Plus the cat litter can be heavy. Tip a person for a delivery what you would expect if you were doing the same job. I don't have a lot of money to just give out w***y nilly or just fun things. But I do respect they are doing a job that's a convenience when you can do it yourself. For those drivers eating orders that is a theft and should be reported to company under which they are delivering under.

I've never messed with a customer's food, but I don't blame him one bit. DoorDash doesn't tell customer's that close to 100% of worker's ( subcontractors) pay (profit) is from tips. DoorDash is a luxury service, unlike ordering a pizza as the person is at most delivering one or two meals at a time. I can also understand why customers are worried about this but most drivers are good so I won't be concerned. If your food ever arrives in something that's unsealed contact doordash and tell them you want to refund to replacement.

finally, why do you all constantly b***h about these services yet continue to use them and pay the outlandish fees? It’s not very smart or you is it? Customers and drivers could help each other from these unfair practices by aiming your complaints and anger at the app companies. Not the drivers. We can’t change anything and we’re as frustrated as you are. Did you also know that when you don’t tip, the driver has to pay the taxes on your orders him/herself? Drivers are fed up and are now keeping lists of customers names that are poor tippers and passing the lists on to other drivers who work in the same neighborhoods. Soon non- and poor tippers will be blackballed and no one will pick up their orders. These apps were created to provide a service for select customers who can actually afford it. Unfortunately the majority of customers now are those who can’t afford it. If you can’t tip fairly, please stop using these apps.

Cheap a*s customers expect drivers to bring pick up and deliver their orders and often want us to bring it into your apartment bldngs at any hour-for a couple dollars-while more and more drivers get attacked, shot or killed every month. You expect us to do what you would never do yourselves. You’re exploiting the worker and by using these apps you’re allowing the companies to exploit the workers too. You don’t understand that not everyone has the opportunity to quit a job and find a better one. Many have to do this because they can’t afford child care during the day, or lost their jobs due to pandemic. For many it’s the only source of income, perhaps paying for kids meals at schools, or medications, or the difference in keeping their lights turned on. The reason doesn’t matter. You should simply respect them regardless. Furthermore, why are you all complaining to the drivers instead of to the company for not paying the drivers fairly? Drivers have no lobbying power.

How many times will BP run this “story” before it occurs to these “journalists” (lol) that it’s not real? It’s not even new. These videos have been going around about DD, Uber Eats and Grub Hub for years, as long as the apps have been around. If the writers had bothered to research it they’d have known that but obviously critical thinking isn’t high on the priority list for writers or readers. Drivers (and non-drivers) have created hundreds of vids like this for laughs, for attention, and yes, to make customers aware of the ways in which you exploit workers and how you also allow the companies to exploit them by continuing to use these services. Here’s what you should know: Drivers are paid an average of $1.75 by the app to pick up and deliver your food- its not even enough to cover the gas that we buy out of pocket. The cheapest customers, the ones that leave $3-4 or less are the ones that expect the most and act as if they own you for that little tip.

Yall broke asf folks not tipping need to shut up and go get your own dam food. You not special! You want the luxury of sitting on your fat lazy asses while somebody carts your combo meal to you? Pay up! And for the folks outside the U.S., you dont get it so be quiet and stick to what you know. Cashiers get paid an HOURLY WAGE.. not PER DELIVERY. Yall are entitled and lazy, and complaining about people "whining" about not getting paid a LIVABLE wage, yet you dont even want to go get your own dam food! Get off your fat greedy a*s and go get it! That's why I stopped doing doordash, because I was sick of bumrushing through traffic with my daughter to make 45 funky a*s dollars because no one wanted to half a*s tip. And gas was like 4$ a gallon! I hope the next person that gets that number 8 combo tips well, otherwise that driver should have at the meal theirselves!

Just because doordash calls it a tip does not make it so that is actually the pay that goes to the driver we make nothing without your tips.

I understand tipping servers as they are part of the whole atmosphere of place where I'm eating. I don't understand tipping for food delivery.... or do you give a tip to post service too? It is paid according to distance.. or what am I missing?

I'm from Germany and shocked about the fact that your wife had to share tips she didn't even get. Imo that doesn't make the slightest sense. On which basis was calculated what she had to share with/pay to the bartenders?

Back to the fake videos- why would a driver put intentionally show their face on camera and risk being fired? Why do customers disrespect drivers with low tips when you know we know where you live?
