Dolce & Gabbana Releases Its First-Ever Hijab Collection

On Sunday, Dolce & Gabbana launched their first collection of hijabs and abayas. Aiming for modesty, the collection features black and beige items accentuated with lace as well as floral and lemon prints.

“The new Dolce&Gabbana Abaya collection is a reverie amidst the desert dunes and skies of the Middle East: an enchanting visual story about the grace and beauty of the marvelous women of Arabia,” D&G wrote on their Facebook page.

ok, guys. you can think whatever you like about women who wear any kind of coverage and about their motivation to do so (that they are made to do it by the men-ruled society, they are opressed, etc etc...).. it is your right to have an opinion... but just think for a moment about this as a form of casual clothing: why should not muslim women around the world enjoy access to high fashion?? there is no reason for it! so get over it and let people wear what they want and acquire their clothes from their favourite brands (if they have enough cash for D & G anyways...). I think this is great. Fashion is created not for one race/ethnicity/religion/culture only, it must be available/accessable to everyone and must reflect the entire variety of peoples and cultures of our world.

You have a point, but I also think you're missing the biggest, most important point. You can not be for women's rights and human rights and support Islam. You just can't.

Why? 40 years ago there were almost no women wearing hijab in Afghanistan. They dressed as European women if they wanted to, they had freedom to study, drive a car, take a walk in the park in short dresses without being stoned to death... Now they are back to stoneage, and taliban made the whole world believe that this is what they all want. Way to go...

It looks for me like it's a new way of selling "trends" by playing the scandal card... And by the way, people who tell it's a shame there is muslim nice clothes, or in contrary people saying it's a shame that muslim woman wear things like these...please get both on some remote island together and let us live!

Don's speak for us ( Muslims women who wear ABBAYA PROUDLY!) when you don't know us and the True reason why we wear Abbaya! For muslim women who really knows what Islam is, then abbaya is the way we fight for ourself, our dignity, our honors and our image.

Disgusting of Dolce & Gabbana to revert to clothes who are subjected to the oppression and control of females. They are giving this misogynistic tool, which is purely cultural but often pretended to be religious, specifically to be of the Islamic faith, in order to keep it "accepted" and "legal" regardless of the opression, control and misogyny this piece represents and also the security risks that this identity shrouding clothing poses, women degrading piece of clothing in our gender equal, women respecting and worshipping western nations, another platform to "normalize" the Burka and Hijab for the naive, gullible and "tolerant" (More like ignorant of the truth) masses, which they are so badly in need of any support they can get to transform our full of freedom flourishing countries into the backward, inhumane, misogynistic, barbaric, medieval countries, from where this cultural clothing stems. It is hypocritical and utterly ridiculous to accept this if you're a feminist!!!

What I don't get has nothing to do with style or whether women are covered (as all have the right to decide for themselves). Just how hot it would be wearing these! Dark clothes in the sun absorb the heat and long sleeves and scarves wrapped snug around the head trap the heat too. A long loose dress or skirt allows air to move about and is cooler but there's more clothes underneath these robes. If I had to dress like that (even if I wanted to), I'd be a melted puddle or have heat-stroke. Lots of the wealthy Muslim homes are air-conditioned but what about those that aren't? All other issues aside, don't the women find it hot? Makes me think of the women's clothes worn in Victorian and Edwardian times. I've honestly been curious about this for a long time. Anyone know? Or am I just naturally meant to live in cooler climes?

I agree it's kind of ignorant to promote something that signifies the degradation, oppression, abuse, and even murder of millions of women. I also agree that many systems of belief are flawed, but Islam is the absolute most flawed. Radical Islam needs to be outlawed and phased out permanently. The human rights violations and utter hate it promotes are intolerable.

Whatever one's belief (I'm not debating that), but you should understand, Brandy, clothes like these would NOT be allowed in radical Islam. Nothing fancy, decorative or expensive - just complete black and only the eyes (barely) showing.
